I would have been five years old when this was broadcast and I definitely remember around the ages of 5, 6 or 7 waking up early on Saturday mornings, going downstairs, switching the TV on and being greeted with the testcard!
Unfortunately, this clip has not been preserved perfectly! Even on an SVHS VCR with timebase corrector, this is the best result I could get! The original VCR that recorded this back in 1995 will have lost synchronisation among all the motors in its mechanism when the BBC1 transmitter at Crystal Palace shut down the previous night while it was still recording as there would have been no signal (including sync pulses) transmitted when the transmitter was off air. When it started up again, the VCR recording this back in 1995 was supposed to lock on to the new sync pulses from the transmitter, but clearly... it didn't!
I've done the best I can with this in my Panasonic VCR. My JVC could play it but with an even shakier picture, the Sanyo kept playing it but with tracking bars going up the screen every half a second and the Sharp just played it with a solid blue screen.

Rare to see a weather man wearing a _green_ jacket - must be using blue for the chroma key ! Great upload.

I used to remember when I was six years old and I would get up early on Saturday mornings switch the TV on and the Testcard would be on.
It frightened me back in the day so I would switch it on to Channel 4 and watch Sesame Street and Ovide instead

Similar memory to you, except the testcard didn’t scare me but the tone annoyed me.

@@stickytapenrust6869 It was the clown that scared me back in the day.
BBC2 had a low pitch test tone which would have really creeped me out back in the day.

As kids in the early 80’s we would watch the test card while waiting for programs to start + our TV took about 10 minutes to warm up and show any picture so we had to plan ahead.

Superted used to air on the BBC? I thought it was only S4C and Channel 4 in England. Great find.

Was on S4C in Wales (Welsh language) and on BBC1 (including Wales) in English.
Remember that S4C is a joint effort between the BBC, HTV/ITV and C4!

This is level-2 teletext, which had a higher number of colours available. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_System_Teletext
