Love the music, it reminds me of the time I and others drove like there was no tomorrow. I have been known to leave Elpaso and eight hours later be in the Dome back when the speed limit was 55mph. Yep, got lucky more than once or twice. Had a Pete EXHD that just needed to be turned loose and let her do her thing. When you run a KTTA 600 with 1000HP and a 6x5 over with 292 gears you can cross the great divide at high fuel consumption and a lot of toothpicks while watching a speedometer bounce off a 100 mph mark. Yep, I and others were the people who made the 100mph plus way back when. Funny looking back when we were young and the things we did to drive, make money, and to make sure the load got there. Those days are gone now with the rules drivers have in place to deal with.
@@tuleralph6031 those aren't CR England, prime ,or whatever truck you're driving . There are 1000 hp trucks out here . I ran Michigan to the Bronx for 2 yrs had a KW Dyno said 600 to the ground . When you're getting walked pulling hills across Pa , they got motor .
@@tuleralph6031 Back in the '1970s some of us found out that Cummins made two types of '600s. They made the KTA 600 and they made the KTTA 600. The KTTA 600 was a twin-turbo that could handle 1200HP and was an industrial engine. It would put 1650 torque at around 1600 RPM and as such, you had to run the 6x4 or 6x5 transmissions. A 15 speed trans bearings would not hold up to the torque, but some 13 speeds would. The "K" is the Cummins engine model, the "T" is turbo and the "A" is aftercooler. It was the same size as a regular 600 but with an extra turbo. The truck you put these engines in had to have the wide engine bay. So Pete EXHD hoods, Ford CL9000 class, KW, R model Mack and some Fruitloops could take these engines. They were the big dogs of trucks back when. They could make some of the trucks today look sick as well, but they only got around 6 miles gal on a good day. Closer to 4 1/2 miles to the gal on ave.
@@StonedPony1 yeah I used to drive a Pete kt 600 pulling 7& 9 axle. Very familiar with those. The marine version had higher hp. Also drove a 3408 that dynoed at 800 hp but kept blowing the head gaskets. Never saw a kt more than 700 hp. They usually didn't last for very long. Smoked all the time. I preferred the kt to the 3408. The more weight you put behind them, the harder they pulled.
@@tuleralph6031the kt 600 was a 450--550 hp engine if I remember correctly. It had problems with heads if you put more pressure to the injectors. The KTA with the aftercooler corrected a lot of the problems with this engine and made it one of the best engines ever made. The 3408 cat was a good engine, but it had a soft crank and the pistons were on a 60-degree angle compared to the Mack V8 or the Cummins KTA 600 or the KTTA 600 series of engines at almost 90 degrees of angle of the pistons with each cylinder having its own head. Some people never saw what some of these old engines could do if the right people worked on them. The Mack V8 would make a 3408 suck hind tit as it was an engine that could run with a KTA 600 for a little while. The Mack had a fuel pump problem, rod bearings, and other things in the early engines. I have owned and driven all of the 'V8s in the US trucks we could get back when and have seen some guys who could make one of them do their thing.

One of those Petes with the big 3408 Cat in it with shright chrome stacks. (Yes we did those back when) Look at the fuel tanks and you will see them setback more than regular fuel tanks to help take the weight off the front axle.
