- I clean the chimney and stove in this video to get a good fire going. I couldn't believe what I found in the cleanout. Winter is on the way, and we have lots of chores outside on the homestead to get finished up. Pulling up spent vegetable plants and using the Kubota to move large grow bags from the garden. All that dirt goes into the compost for the beds next year. Backyard chicken shenanigans using a pumpkin, we will see if they want to create a jack-o-lantern. #kubota #soapstone #startthefire

I miss having a wood stove. When we moved into our new house in 2007 we didn’t install it because it would have raised our insurance more than we could afford back then.

lol Usually they attack the pumpkins, but I have one on the ground they haven't even touched. Not like them at all. Once I open them up they devour it though. It is an older flock, just not as full of it as they used to be I guess. lol
It is hard to find someone that will give you insurance with a wood stove and when they do it is so expensive. Ridiculous!

We are debating a fireplace in the new house just as a supplemental heat source because I hate cutting firewood. I’m glad we do t have to prep for winter like you do, that’s a whole job in itself. Take care and hope you both have a blessed weekend.
I love the wood heat, but it is a lot of work. We have bought cut wood from a friend the past 2 years and it is easier for sure. We are still finishing up. Hoping today it gets all done. Take care

The soap stone stove works so good heating our home and it holds the heat quite awhile. We had a few crappy days while our son was here, so as soon as the sun came out we were out and about. The chickens are so relaxing to watch. Have a great rest of your week and weekend to you and Jean!
I’m having flashbacks of cleaning out the woodstove! Lol, always a chore but feels good to know it is done and you’re safe! We still have a pellet stove. Too much pine here which also creates creosote. Chickens are so darn fun. Always a lot to do for winter but feels good to have it done.
