HOW TO MAKE DOLLAR TREE LANTERNS

- Unfortunately the Dollar Tree is no longer selling the sugar bowls.
Six tips:
1.Use the blow dryer
2.Let the paint fully dry.
3.Use a tie on bow instead of hot gluing it.
4.Use hot glue protective finger gloves or you’ll look like me. 😂
5.Not all paint will work on glass.Three types of paint that can be used on glass: acrylic enamel, acrylics marked as suitable for tile or glass, and specially formulated solvent-based paints.
6.Use tea lights from Amazon.

Dollar Tree either needs to start stocking their stores better and keep them stocked, or allow all items online to be ordered in less than case quantities.

I have only found 2 sugar bowls in the past 3 years. I shop at several different stores. I made 2 lamps using dollar tree glass candle sticks. Love your version.

I'm 68 yrs old and a loooong time crafter.
Let me give you a little bit of knowledge about using glue guns, YES they are indeed HOT, at least mine is 😮.
Before starting your project put a bowl/glass full of ice and water on your work station.
If you get burned the whole idea is to stop the hot glue on the skin from burning worse than it is. After cooling down the glue then treat the burn as you normally would.

I know I'm late on this video but I was just looking up cute lantern ideas and your video popped up. I'm so glad it did because these are absolutely stunning. I will definitely be making these lanterns. Thank you for sharing. (Side note: I really hate writing in the comments of a crafter's video that I can't find certain items at my Dollar Trees and without fail, the number one thing I always get told is to just buy them online or off of their website. But the only problem with that is, like she said in her video, they come in bulk. You can't just buy one or a few of something. You have to buy a box of them. I even tried ordering a lot of stuff but nope, they still wouldn't ship it out unless I bought boxes of said items. It's just such a pain when I want to craft something that my Dollar Trees don't have the items for so I have to order them online. I wish they would change their website so that as long as you buy enough to put in a box or enough items (money wise I mean) that you can still get it shipped to you.) I mean, I appreciate the advice but telling me to just buy it online is such a waste of money to me because I don't need a crate full of something that I only really need like one or two of.

Thank you for the Thanksgiving wishes, unfortunately I will have so empty chairs. 😢 My husband passed away last year from covid. He passed away 6 weeks before our 31st wedding anniversary. My mom, my sister, 2 cousins and my nephew all passed away last year too.

This is the first time I’ve seen your video. I’m going to go back and check it to see if I can watch other ones, but I must say first, you have the most pleasant voice to listen to!❣️
Second, you had a very professional video that was easy to understand; excellent camera coverage so that everything was shown up close and further away, so that you got the full affect of what you were doing and also I loved that you included not only the frustration of trying to find everything, but covering the cost to purchase initially and also how you ended up with more than you expected but you were able to utilize it so that you could make Gary an expensive but beautiful guess poor people… Teachers friends, family… The list is long.
I was wondering, initially, why you were painting the lanterns black. But I must say, they look stunning in your kitchen. I happen to be in Michaels yesterday, and I was looking at lanterns in different sizes. I was checking out to see what was on sale, and what wasn’t throughout the store as I am an artist, but I also am in interior designer. When I saw it about it, they had white lanterns, Black, Silver, gold, and brass.… They also had a combination of those colors… end it was pretty much the same wherever you went. With the exception of the black. Michaels was the only place I saw Black.
Another way you can save money if you have a time and skill, is to make your own ribbons. Try to buy ribbons after Christmas because you can buy bulk rolls at Sam’s and Costco that are absolutely beautiful and they have water in them and I bought some my rolls five and six years ago and I haven’t even begun to use 1/4 of the ribbon, because you get hundreds and hundreds of yards of ribbon. Another good place to find ribbon. You don’t expect to find it or places like Lowe’s, Tiesens in HOME DEPOT and they will have very good sales if you watch for them but especially the week after Christmas. My next step is, if you don’t think you’re really good at making bows, they have all of these little stand and tools to wrap ribbon around 12345 loops however, many you want and then you use a zip tie and 1-2-3 & it’s done! Some people use skinny 1/4” or 1/8” satin ribbon to tie the bigger ribbon together in the center. If that something you have on hand, then by all means, you can use that if you don’t have zip ties.
Speaking of tips, I love that you put those six tips at the end of your video. I wish more people did that. we all learn from every time we start a new project. I may be an artist and I may be an interior designer but there’s so much we can learn when we are trying something new or working with others. It’s especially fun when you do some thing like what you did with one or more people because as my grandmother said, the more we share the more we learn, and if we are willing, every day, we should learn something new.… And nobody can know everything. I’ve been painting for 40+ years or more… Didn’t do my math very well but with CZcams, I am finding show many products and techniques are out there that I was never exposed to because I came from a very large family of 14 and first, finances limited me to what my art sources could be, and secondly there definitely was not money for lessons… I really didn’t need them. I was blessed to be gifted… Please realize even gifted people have to learn techniques. Anyway, I would give your video a top score if I knew what score people would have for a range if it’s 10 out of 10 or 100 out of 100 you would definitely get those top scores for an excellent video and I can’t wait to see your next video.
I happen to see a comment, before I opened up my comment, and that was about dollar tree needing to step up their stock and also being able to order supplies online… Which I didn’t even know was possible until I listen to your video.! However, I definitely have the luxury of two dollar trees in my town and another one 20 miles away approximately, so I was assume that I can find what I’m after. But in the last couple of months, with the holidays around the corner through a people who literally buy all that’s in the store, and I think that the stores need to have a limit when they know particularly crafters or people that are doing CZcams’s are going to buy them all and I’m not judging you at all for that because you actually went online and ordered yours and ended up spending a lot more than you intended. but there’s a lady where I live who found these beautiful mesh wire pumpkins about 5 inches across and maybe three or 4 inches tall they’re just adorable and they came in about four or five colors. She bought everyone of them so nobody else could get them, and she could just put them in groupings all over her place, and she literally told me that she went to all the stores in the area and bought them all up. I don’t understand that kind of selfishness and greed. As I stated earlier, I grew up in a large family, and it taught us to be loving, kind, compassion, and definitely to share. If my mother caught us being selfish next thing, you know you weren’t getting dessert for supper or you would be outside pulling weeds. She taught us values and she made sure we practice them… She wasn’t military, but she did run a tight ship for cleanliness in her home, kindness to one another, and I swear she did have eyes in the back of her head because you didn’t get away with anything!!

So I can’t believe I just found your channel but I’m here now and subscribed and notifications are on haha. So I’m in love with your approach at the Christmas lantern! Immediately I went to the dollar tree website but I couldn’t find that bowl! Now it’s a quest lol. I typed in sugar bowl with lid, clear bowl with lid and I think I’ve now seen every bowl the DT has. Am I doing something wrong lol?

I made these lanterns for Christmas but used stair spindles for the base ( they sit 3 ft high) and put them in my hallway. I wanted to make 2 for spring/summer but now I can't find the sugar bowls anywhere. Yours are adorable and if I can find the bowls again, I will make your version also.
