- Grinder is a structure available only to Yuri. For only $600 it's a structure which will reward you with much more. The Yuri's technology synergies pretty well with the Grinder and it's very easy to acquire many resources. Money is never enough!
All units can be used in the Grinder and there are no exceptions.
Infantry grant half of their cost as a reward while vehicles grant full resources of their original cost.There are many combinations to be used and most of them are demonstrated in the video. Grinder is also a must have building to make a MCV available for training from a War factory.

It's because that they use the enslaved "harvest" quotes for whatever reason. Westwood originally planned to give you the ability to direct slaves from a miner and they had movement, harvest and even attack quotes versus when they're free.

it was the grinder on the lower west part, below the captured allied base
if you kill some or all guarding units near the grinder, it would turn into neutral
and if you send engineers in, wanting to capture it
it will just eat off your engineers without being captured
And no one know where the money gone.

In red alert 2 if you have both allied and soviates, you can take advantage from the cloning vats and cloan any allied infantry the you can sell them back to get double the credits
I wish there really were "clowning" vats in the game. People would be sending armies of Ronald McDonalds against each other

There's a map in Skirmish that has no regenerating ore. I think it's the D.C one.
So at one point, I actually had run out of funding but luckily I had both Soviet and Yuri tech, so most of my income was from building cheap tanks and grinding them for more money.

Campaign. Several missions are attempts to stop Yuri funding his war efforts.
Skirmish. Unlimited income.
My assumption would be that if you grind a tank with a terror drone, you also get the funds of the terror drone then.
When I used to edit things in TibEd, units would have this thing called "Soylent Value" which was what you'd get when you grind them up.
So that's what I like to call it when I send units to the Grinder. "This unit has a Soylent value of this much, so I'll make this much from it!"

In infantery in vehicles gives full money, you can clone infantery, put them into vehicles and get the bonus that way.
Imagine going to a foreign land to fight an enemy, only to have your commander turn you and your buddies into the Amazing Bulk and running you through a gigantic cheese grater for money.

The way I see it, Allied and Soviets spend money to keep a until in the fight. Yuri grinds the unit then buys another one. Though that has the downside of losing any experience that unit had accrued

This has to be the most overpowered resource building in the series. It wouldn't be too bad if not for the fact that it was used in a mind control focused faction who had a superweapon that can give them units for free.

I haven't seen this discussed or mentioned: What we used to do is put blockers around the barracks. The infantry won't come out and your money would be returned, but the IFV will still copy them. You can then grind them to get money back.
I think it was fixed in later patches.

@@sellisali974 the unit has to be guided in by the player. Uncontrollable units like Heroes, Terror Drones or Robot Tanks also cannot be recycled unless controlled by the player that owns the Grinder. The Magnetron will in fact drop the unit on top of the Grinder, damaging the Grinder instead.
Worth noting, if you wall in your barracks while having a cloning vat, the barracks unit can't be trained and gets fully refunded, but the clone still pops out. Put the clones in the grinder and you have free money

There's a allied mission i don't what part but you have an black eagle and enemy boomers in the mission in that however has many neutral units roaming around the map and infinite cars driving by if you happend to capture one of yuri's base and train yuri clone aswell as building a grinder you can mind control the populace and the roaming cars to the grinder easy money. I had fun playing that mission despite being short.

For obligatory use if you follow my tecnique: Train Yuris, build Psychic Tower and (maybe) Mastermind Tank, don't invest in Virus or Brutes (Gattling Tank yes, because the air menace) because the VIRUS will cause than the enemies don't aproach to be converted and the Brutes will crush them when aproach closer. Basically you can make money of agresives armies with easily.

There is a fact that I discovered:
You build a Slave Miner, deploy to summon the Slaves, then move the Slave Miner to the Grinder and recycle it (leave the Slaves there)
And what will happen is: the Slaves say the quote: “We’re free!” and become NEUTRAL. They will immediately attack your units that are nearby them.

Yes, they do. But they can be taken down by anti-air units and defenses. So while Yuri has not yet produced any of them (or if ever they got shot down), he has mind-control technology and Grinders to fund his war efforts.

0:26 Most units have a "Soylent" value defined and this is usually what ends up getting used. A lot of these values are just half the cost of the unit, though, but in the case of vehicles it's the same as their Cost. Sometimes there's a special value, though, and CNCNet also makes use of this in their optional Yuri Patch to make Brutes only grind for 100, meaning the old Initiate+Cloning Vat->Genetic Mutator into brutes->grind trick only ever breaks even with the cost of the Initiates (still gives you a return if you use Conscripts, though)
1:25 I actually did not know this, I wonder if this is intentional? I have heard the Industrial Plant also doesn't _actually_ reduce the build time of vehicles, only the cost, but I haven't personally tested this myself, but that would be consistent behavior with this because its only modifying the cost you end up actually paying for the vehicle instead of its literal real cost. IIRC the same thing happens with "Cost*Mult" when a Country actually specifies one (ex: Russia was originally going to have CostUnitsMult=0.85). Funnily enough the IndustrialPlant also has fields for "InfantryCostBonus", "AircraftCostBonus", "BuildingsCostBonus", and "DefensesCostBonus" but all of these are just set to 1 in the vanilla game. They do legitimately work though if you set their values to something other than 1, and indeed you can make any building apply these bonuses too by also putting FactoryPlant=yes on it. As far as my understand goes _only_ buildings can have FactoryPlant=yes though.
I think it's a limitation of the engine. You can't keep track of which unit are discounted unit on every unit.
@@MrPathorn But that's not totally true tho, they clearly can get a correctly reduced cost for every single unit, infantry, building, defense, and aircraft, _per player,_ all those CostBonuses _work,_ I think it's either an oversight and they didn't realize this happened until it was too late, or it was entirely intentional.

@@tsiripas Sure. But what I am really interested in is that, some none-ground-units maybe on ground sometimes, and if there are some unusual situations different than what we typically expect. e.g:
1. Siege chopper can change from airbone and ground, is there any chance that can by recycled? (I guess not. )
2. Amphibious transports are constructed in shipyard, but can be on land as well. Could them be recycled? (I guess yes. ) Also amphibious can carry flak tracks/battle fortresses, and they can carry infantries too, so recycle it will be more complicated (I guess it is a simple add up)
3. Harriers and black eagles can be attacked by tanks cannons or terror drones when landed on airforce command HQs, not sure if we can find a way to squeeze them into the grinder. (I guess not)
(The following is some ideas I just came up, which are not really related to the "land units" only topic.)
4. If we recycle a tank "infected" by a terror drone, will we gain the money for the terror drone as well? (Further more, if the drone is yours and it is "infected" by force attack). What about amphibous transport "infected" by a giant squids, and chronosphere it to the land and recycle (I guess the squid will die. )
5. What will happen if we try to recycle units under protection of iron curtain? Or MCV protected by force shield, and undeploy and then recycle? (Can we undeploy a construction yard when force shielded?)
6. Will low power affect the grinder?

1 & 3 - Air units can't be recycled no matter what.
2. Yes, everything will count normally.
4. Yes, the terror drone will count. The other scenario is not possible.
5. Iron curtained units will still be recycled. MCV will lose force shield if undemployed.
6. Power doesn't affect Grinder!

What happens if you grind a vehicle infected by terror drone? Do you get resources for both? Can you grind a vehicle affected by chaos drone?
1st question. Yes, you get the value of the vehicle affected by the terror drone and the terror drone itself.
2nd question. Normally, once your units fall into enemy's Chaos Drone, you automatically lose control over them (you can't order them anything while in berserk state).

You get $300 profit from convert two initiates to brutes. I keep initiates on production pass the early-game once I got cloning vats so I could convert them for extra funds. The downside of this trick is; you need to invest into making initiates so it isn't free money.
Nobody goin to talk about it's appearance? I mean the another set of grinders at the top of the building. At rare case where you can see it and it even spins when someone grinded

This is why yuri has the best defense for a long run match, but if you want to go for the extra small map like kikematamitos then it's a bit difficult because yuri's basic defense is horrible compared to sovyet's bunker filled with conscript
