    Thank you for the great video. I've used natural dyes for many years, but I love the idea of folding and using the metal pan. When the weather warms up here, I hope to spend a day making paper again. I have never tried the red cabbage or the black beans, but will enjoy that fun. Really loved the variety of tea colors. That Hibiscus was beautiful. I did not know tea had that many colors. You have great tips and fun info. Thank you for sharing.

I liked the color a lot but it was grainy. I will do it your way next time! And rolling the paper is brilliant! I find the different dyes are stronger in color than paper! Do you?🙂🤗

      Jose Rivera Hi! Yes, you only need a few blueberries and then when I get the color I want, I fish them out with a slotted spoon.. if you leave berries in too long, the dye bath will turn to syrup. I agree the color on paper is quite brilliant! My next video will be a new one on organic dyes and my results with making them light fast! 😘

    • @CaterinaGiglio
      @CaterinaGiglio  Před 4 lety

      Hi Shawna, yes it was a long time ago and I did take a look back, but could not find the recipes. I generally use one cup of fruit, skins, etc or one teaspoon of turmeric, to one or two cups of water. I normally decide how much water to use based on how big a batch I want to use for dying. If I want a lot of pink, I will use a couple of avocado pits and skins and two cups water. I bring them to a boil and let them cool or I bundle papers and leave them in the hot bath. I was wondering if these dyes are lightfast. Also, I would imagine that the foods used would have some amount of acid in them, how does that effect the archival quality of the paper? I love this technique but should it be used on handmade books or fine art pieces?

    • @CaterinaGiglio
      @CaterinaGiglio  Před 7 lety

      Hi Susan, sadly they are not, however, I would say that using gel medium or using a varnish to cover your finished art work will help immensely, but good art should never be exposed to a lot of sunlight anyway. I am more inclined to use mono prints and resists in my paintings but veg dyes in books and my art journal. Thanks for asking, and sorry I failed to mention that. Thank you for watching!

    • @CaterinaGiglio
      @CaterinaGiglio  Před 6 lety +1

      @@CaterinaGiglio there is also adding ALUM to make something washing & light fast (i just watched a FABRIC dying video, using all natural stuff just like in THIS vid - onions, ferns, avacado skins AND the pit... all kinds of stuff was used, and she always used something to make the dye 'permanent', except she also mentioned things like fig leaves have their OWN natural ingredient that makes it light & wash fast... so it depends on what you're using)
