Never thought about tipping the front desk. I'll have to do that next time around. Tipping I find is important too. I always tip the person that cleans my room. I find if you tip the person that refills your fridge, they will give you more beer as well. Or at the swim up bar or bars in general, when it gets busy. If you tip, they will make you a priority when they see you come up for your next drink. When they bring me a plate of spring rolls to the pool, they are getting a couple bucks for sure, haha. Don't have to go all out, but its important I find if you want a better experience.

Not tipping at least $1 for every drink seems a little odd. You touched on it but the more frequent the tips, the better service you’ll probably get !

Is it best you tip with USD or DOP? Great info!

$100 US usually covers a seven night trip for tips, budgeting approx 15 per day. We focus on tips for good service. This is a useful guide for those less familiar with a tipping culture. We tried using Dominican pesos but it can be confusing! Here in Canada, tips are more common. 🇨🇦

We do $5 for the bell boy, drinks if they are bought to us €1\€2 each time. Alacart restaurants $10
House keeping usually $4\$5 each day ( we stay for 14 days, so adds up)and €1\€2 in the mini bar.
I have also tipped the omelette chef $10 at the end of the stay as I was having them every day.
Is it worth tipping reception for a nicer room at check in ? It's never crossed my mind to do so, does it work? I'm from the UK so we don't tip like the Americans( so not sure how to do it)

Its not cheap to go though, its 3.5k and 9 hour flight, all inclusive for just 6 nights We usually go to places in Europe and go self catering so we eat out every meal everyday which costs alot over a week or two but with all inclusive its already added in the price. So we dont take as much money as its cost that much more just to get there! We're not used to tipping, alot of us dont even think of it to be honest, its not normal for us in Britain, as its already added in the bill service charge.
Of course we will tip but i wont go mad..

I am going next month. I am traveling with my sister and our kids who are in their 20s. Are we all supposed to tip. How does that work. That would amount to more than my airplane ticket to get there

How come you lay out the tips in USD? Is it preffered over DOP? (We are going to Punta Cana for our honeymoon august next year, so started watching all of your videos :), keep up the good work! )

Hola 🙂 we found it to be easier to lay out the tips in American dollars because no matter the country of origin most people understand its value. We tip in american dollars as well and is easier for us as well.

Thank you Lena, I had the same exact question. @@NittyGrittyTravelers : If we were to leave the resort, can we continue to use USD or switch to DOP ?

Hola! It will depend with your budget, 50 dollars should cover your entire stay 🙂

How much do you suggest tipping for spa services.

  • @gaetanst-jean352

Sorry I disagree with your layout of tipping You suggested too much in each area. We tip very well, but believe in tipping everywhere, not just where people get obvious tipping. Example GARDENERS, Staff cleaning public bathrooms etc no one sees how hard they work and make little wages. Please people try to spread your tipping budget to ALL hard working low paid staff.

As a couple spending 1 week:
1.00 per bag for Porter bringing bags to room.
2.00 -3.00 tip for both Breakfast & Lunch. A lot of people leave nothing.
    5.00 for Dinner.
3.00/day Housekeeping. 5.00 on last day.
    1.00 - 2.00 every other drink.
Skipped the Butler and gave the girl at Guest Services 5.00 to make dinner reservations. The smile on her face exposing her new braces was priceless.
All in all, 150.00 about covers the week.
    Enjoy!

I go to Mexico quite often, and was always told by the staff that they prefer pesos, because then they can spend it easily out of the resort with worrying trying to exchange other currencies. I am going to the Dominican for the first time in a few months and will only be taking pesos.
