Spolier goku loses the next tournament too
RIP Monster Carrot
Believe it or not he and his minions are still alive they just chilling in space
Too soon
Toriyama confirmed they survived and just floated in space till the moon was fixed. Even made a cameo in the Super manga still making mochi
Is that the rabbit?😂
Ohhhh facts. Woah
Goku's real win was getting Roshi to pay for dinner with all that prize money!
The final act of this fight is one of my favorites.
7:49-9:36
As much as I think the dub of Dragon Ball holds up in some areas, I do wish Funimation were given the licenses to use the insert songs. This scene, in particular, was accompanied by the song "Mezase Tenkaichi" in the original Japanese broadcast and not only is it a pretty great song on its own, but it also sells the climax of this fight, as it has become a match of fisticuffs with their pride as martial artists on the line.
The fact that Roshi still won after using up almost all of his energy for that Kamehameha shows how strong Roshi actually is.
And Roshi would have already won without Oozaru. Goku was about to give up just before he transformed.
I am glad that you decided to continue this series. DB has so much more great stuff to offer.
This fight between Goku & Roshi is something you just dont get in DBZ or Super.
Jackie Chun: no tricks , no techniques , just good ole karate chops and flying kicks.
yes ! I miss the days when Dragonball was mainly this and not just beam blasts, yells and transformations even though I do love that stuff too 😂
And looping gifs
"How am I on Roshi's side?"
Cuz he's right; the announcer has been slacking when it comes to counting. Balls to the wall for a lot of the other stuff, but when it comes to the ten count, not so much.
Insofar as Goku should've been the winner from saying "I am the Champi"-thud, don't forget, he SHOULD'VE been counted out already. (See above)
The announcer is on Toryiama’s side, he rules in the plot’s favour XD
Good example would be when Roshi hypnotised Goku and he objected because it would be a boring finale for the audience
3:50 Roshi knew because Gohan told him, when Goku sees Roshi again at Ox’s castle Roshi mentions Gohan telling him about Goku
plus at the begining of the Saiyan saga Roshi confirms that Goku hit his head as a baby when Raditz asked him cause Gohan told him
I hate to be the “Well actually” police, but in the sub version Roshi overhears Yamcha tell Krillin that Goku transforms when he sees the full moon. Roshi then says, “WHAT?! Which means there’s only one way to solve this problem.” Unfortunately, those lines weren’t properly represented in the dub.
How does Gohan know about Goku's transformation? Goku never transformed in Z. Gohan was introduced in Z not DB
@@bensenzo By Gohan I mean grandpa Gohan
@@sabribrus yeah but she doesn't know he's gonna appear on this show. So that's a spolier 🙄
You know blowing up the moon would have catastrophic effects on the earth, mass flooding, earthquakes, etc and again a bit of mistranslation but last episode Roshi heard Yamcha tell Krillin about Goku transforming when he saw a full moon. Thats how Roshi knew to destroy the moon
Melon's grumpy face is a whole ass mood
What's crazy is the Buu arc takes place in the span of like a day and a half.
Yeah, it's like 36-48 hours of insanity.
31 hours 23 for power increase 5 for power rateing 5 extra hours for 24 @@specialnewb9821
It's sad that this is missing my favourite Dragonball song. Usually this fight plays Mezaze Tenkaichi in the Background and it's amazing.
You should look up the japanese version in your own time 😊 You won't regret it.
The scene you're annoyed by is much more understandable in the Japanese version, at least in my opinion. Also you should watch the very end of that fight in Japanese there's a ost that was cut from English that's so well done. It's really beautiful, man, how I love dragon ball and the martial arts aspect. It's easily my personal fav series of the 4 from the franchise!!
Ok so its worth looking up this episode in japanese, because in that last fight between goku and jackie, theres music they couldnt get the rights for. And its amazing
About Dragon Ball time: A lot of fights take a lot more "real life" time then "in universe" time because there's a lot of slow motion going on. Think about all those times when the characters were like "I can't even see their moves" but we the audience can see it well. Like the 5 minutes fight against Freeza that lasted several episodes, or the whole Tournament of Power arc, which had a time limit of 48 minutes.
Tbf Frieza does say Namek is tougher than he thought, so that fight probably takes longer than 5 minutes from the death ball.
While the dub is fine for this show, one thing I will never get over is them not playing Mezase Tenkaichi in the final parts of the Jackie Chun Goku fight. It is so damn epic. If you ever get the chance you should absolutely see the ending of the fight in Japanese. That with the sun setting in the background and both characters unable to even perform any "Special Moves" with how drained they are, some that is only done this one time in the entire series, makes it one of the absolute best fights of the franchise to me.
13:29 Roshi pulling the wig off his head 🤣🤣🤣 I wonder how much glue he used
The red ribbon arc is amazing. Great diversity in scenery/environments and it really captures the "adventure" feel that dragon ball is all about especially since it's the last true "hunt" for the Dragon Balls in the series.
R.I.P the ganster bunny lol
Thank you for continuing the series^^
Didn’t even mean to murder them like that….
They survived and are still alive in the Super manga
@@connorwood9211 really? that must be god level plot armour.
@@connorwood9211 Oh, awesome!
@@xyz6106there's a reason Vegeta has sworn off ever fighting gag characters again
Poor Roshi can’t get his magazines lol
Roshi's win = earned
Cant be too mad, Goku learned a lesson from his teacher and still got to spend the prize money! Win Win
Poor Roshi... Spending all his cash prize in a meal where the richiest woman in the world was invited... Bulma could have paid....
She's still a minor here, not sure what Dr. Briefs gives her for an allowance
you've already watched Z and abridged so it's not much of a spoiler but goku actually learns about what he did to his grandpa during his fight with vegeta, after vegeta makes the fake moon and turns great ape, it's a super quick moment so very easy to miss
Believe it or not the Buu saga from when the Tournament started to the defeat of Kid Buu was only 3 days long. The Frieza fight from beginning to end with everyone took about 1 hour real time and the Cell Games were only 2 to 2 and a half hours long.
i love your laugh when master roshi gets cultural xD
How long did the fights take?
Frieza from the start of torturing Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin to his defeat..... a few hours + 5 minutes*. Huge asterisks on that.
Cell during the Cell Games? Maybe an hour or two + 5 minutes. Not including the breaks.
Buu for the last time? Maybe an hour or two + 3 minutes.
Sailor moon: OH DEAR GOD
Dragonball fights were so different. They are tons of fun and full of character.
Plus, who needs the moon. There probably aren't any future repurcusions here.
Those non subscribers should subscribe just for Melon's smile alone. That's what got me when i first got onto this channel
Fun little fact Gohan actually told Roshi about Goku's transformation the thing was he never believed it until we actually saw it. And melon, it was never really said in either dragon Ball dragon Ball z but there was an actual wish to restore the Moon it was never mentioned who made that wish or how it was done obviously we're probably Bulma but I think what happened was that toriyama forgot that Roshe blew up the moon and did that and then basically that was the plot hole to go with that
Nah, Goku mentions in the last tournament that Kami removed his tail and stopped it from growing back, so he could put the moon back.
@@XCC23 well now that makes it saying that, kami made the wish to restore the Moon
@@kirkcasteel7070either that or he made the moon appear. Picollo and Kami, just like King Kai and Supreme Kai have the ability to materialize things
@@ero-senninsama1734 I am leaning towards Kami being able to rebuild the moon rather than a dragon ball wish. The Dr. Slump cameos mean that both shows happen in the same universe and the Dr. Slump plot is assumed to have ended just before Dragon Ball starts and Goku had the four stars dragon ball at the time. Destroying the moon was a recurrent gag in the series (I think they did so like 4 times), so itcouldn't have been a dragon ball wish.
Granted, it is hard to know if that should be taken seriously since it is a gag manga and the gag was usually paired with "Splitting Earth in two with a single punch".
How does Gohan know about Goku's transformation? Goku never transformed in Z. Gohan was introduced in Z not DB
RIP to Monster Carrot, his minions, and the creatures we saw living on the moon.
Roshi knew Goku’s grandpa Gohan, and roshi also mentioned earlier in the series that Gohan did mention a boy with a tail he found. There is reason to believe that Gohan told him about his transformation during full moons.
Goku put up a good fight but he's still the student and has much more to learn and grow.
3:32 Remember Boss Rabbit and his two goons who got sent to the moon? No one ever mentions them again, so they dead. It's also fun bring it up when talk about all the planets blowing up in Z. Moon may not be as big, but Roshi's blast also reached it from all the way down here.
16:51 Well, probably not so much. Season" is mostly used with western shows (animated and live action). A network orders a number of episodes (likely around 13) for a show at once, if it's successful, it gets more. When it comes to anime, 90% of the time they've got some manga to adapt, so it's just a constant flow of material (with some filler here and there), so it just keeps going. You usually talk about arcs or sagas in anime.
18:10 Later.
18:19 Well, they defeated Vegeta because of the fake moon, made by Vegeta himself.
And if he somehow didn't die, he almost definitely bit the dust when Piccolo managed to destroy the moon... that was already destroyed... what even is continuity?
Kami rebuild the Moon.
I don't think Toriyama appreciates how massive the moon is... or planets for that matter.
Good thing Iroh and Aang weren't there. They would've gone crazy on Roshi for blowing up the moon.
Sokka would have taken it worse.
7:50 there starts playing a song in the Japanese version that was removed in the dub, Mezase Tenkaichi its name and makes the battle even better! I recommend check it out and watch the battle in Japanese for those who haven't yet coz is just epic lmao such a shame they cut it out in the dub:(
I hate how this song is not there, the fight is cool but without the music it removes all the epicness of this climax, when you hear this song playing you're like "Oh shit they're really getting serious", it's the same for that Yamcha fight without telling too much, they removed his insert song and it's like there's no taste in the fight
I thought the Frieza fight lasted five minutes.
It lasted 4 hrs. Stretched out over several episodes. And still considered the longest fight in any anime.
I assume the comment was a jab at the 5 minute claim Frieza made, but that was specific to the time it should take for Namek to explode. The fight had gone on for a while prior to that point.
It would be interesting to know how long the big fights lasted in-universe time. DBS:SH showed that the Frieza Vs Trunks 'fight' was over in seconds, so we really can't judge by episode length.
Hey Melon, i think some told you about the fact there's insert songs in some fights that got removed in the English dub, i know a file with all the episodes including the English dub, but with those insert songs playing, idk if you're interested about it?
The first tournament ark ends let the Red Ribbon ark begin.
8:13 Frieza fight lasted "5 minutes" last I remember. Lol (Not being serious)
XD
Roshi deserved to win, he had to deal with the giant ape and even avoided using his power on Goku to not harm him. Instead wasting his power on the moon. No wonder he was spent after that.
Nah Goku will only be stronger than Roshi in the next tourney.
also Roshi had basically won the fight already through superior technique - Goku only got out of it because Sudden Monkey
8:14 Oh God! Don’t get started on DBZ and time dilation! It’s a complete cluster!!! 😂
Shame on English dub for cutting out one of the most epic DB songs, Mezaze Tenkaichi. You should definetly check out original scene, it makes the fight much more epic.
Algorithm
Let's keep going with this one 🎉🎉
8:18 As we all know, time operates differently in Dragon ball. W vid and reaction 💯 #Melongang
This is why they were caught off guard by Satan's tournament. Tournaments with Goku in them were so destructive they had to keep repairing the ring, causing the length between tournaments to eventually increase!
Oh damn, looks like your watching the version without the tenkichi music.
Agree; grew up watching dbz but old dragonball martial arts had me hooked
4:40 its worth noting here that Goku doesnt actually know what happens when he is in his Great Ape form, unlike the later sayians in the series that were raised on planet vegeta he was never trained in the form in order to keep hold of his higher thought processes.
it takes all the way to the sayian saga on Z and witnessing Vegeta transforming for him to put together that it was him that accidently murdered Gohan(his grandfather). when he was a child.
Roshi knows of the form because Gohan told him of it, but he never beleiuved it till he witnessed it here.
At his point in the franchise, there is no Saiyans or any other space alien warrior concepts. That didn't come along until the franchise needed to shifted for the sale if newer stories to tell. The Great Ape is more of an homage to Sun Wukong the Monkey King of Journey to the West.
But it is pretty messed up that Goku didn't figure out he was responsible (indirectly) for Grandpa Gohan's death until he fought Vegeta.
Just subscribed to your channel after watching 10 of your videos you are awesome. I love Dragon Ball it’s my favorite.
Hello AniMelon, back for more Dragon Ball
episode 28 the Final Blow and great to see
and listening to you again.👑👑
As always i hope that your doing okay and
have an awesome amazing weekend and
Thank You AniMelon Queen of Anime.👑👑
I can hardly wait to see your reaction to the next arc.
Dragon Ball was before anime adopted the concept of seasons, although the US broadcast (and I guess streaming services too?) did order the episodes this way, making this one the end of what they consider "season 1".
However, outside of newcomers, most fans ignore this in favor of the original style, that is to say, the series aired from start to finish with almost no breaks, and we've reached the end of the second arc/saga.
why Dragonball is my favorite of the series, and you know how long the frieza fight was.....5 mins
3:50 The eng dub didn't explain it but the eng sub did
Lol, I had a similar response to Goku defeat back when I was a kid. I missed the previous episodes, so I was shocked to see the old man (Jackie) was actually Master Roshi.
This episode introduce me to an anime moment when something or someone says or do something crazy everyone falls over 😆
Goku lost the tournament but won dinner, I think that is all that truly mattered to Goku. Poor Jackie Chun though, all that had work in the tournament just to pay for Goku's dinner.
Never invite a Saiyan to dine out.
No wonder chi chi always complaining about money😂😂
Gotta admire Roshi here. The utter shit he had to fight through just to beat Goku.
Grandpa Gohan told him about Goku his tail and the moon before he died that's how Roshi knew to blow up the moon. Which they bring back later then Piccolo blows up again to stop Gohan 😂😂😂
It's been fun taking this trip down memory lane ^_^
News Anchor: "We've got breaking news that the Earth's Moon has been completely destroyed. While the long-term environmental effects can only be guessed at, preliminary speculation puts the short-term death toll from tidal effects alone at the hundreds of millions. We now go to our expert on lunar science Sailor Moon, Sailor?"
Sailor Moon: "OH DEAR GOD!!!"
Somebody had to make that reference.
Awesome reaction as always
You forget, Toriyama was a master of fake outs
most of the fights in Z didnt take long at all because of how fast they are. Freeza's "5 minutes" line isn't the exaggeration people think.
Piccolo wasn’t the first one to destroy the moon.
Yo roshi just killed the rabbits on the moon
Hi Melon I loved the final fight between Goku and Master Roshi definitely one of my favorite moment so far
And props to Goku man he had a big smile on his face even though he lost I am so proud of my boy Goku you did very Krillin and Yamcha to
The 21st would terminate was really great
Damn he beat Goku but Goku still killed Roshi's chance to become a sugar daddy.
"HOW'D THE MOON COME BACK"
shenron: ...what's the name of this show again?
dragon ball is less "seasons" and more "sagas" you're, correct, the "emperor pilaf saga" is first, then the "tournament saga" which is the 21st tournament btw, can't wait for the next saga, which as you mentioned/guessed is the "red ribbon army saga"
In terms of seasons, this is still season 1 material and the “Red Ribbon Army” saga does begin near the end of season 1 and ends near the middle of season 3.
I just subscribed because I like watching your videos
Prime example never go out to eat with goku😅
The fun thing about this fight is it's the start of the little clues about Yamcha got his scar, you don't even notice them until after the fact 🤯
Yamcha getting his scars was never explained. Nothing you see has to do with them
@@damonestephens8722
Bruh 🤣
Can you explain, please.
i'm really glad youre not giving up on dragonball it starts off sooooo slow and really cringe/cheesy at times but from episode 58 it gets super emotional and the tone of the series does a 180
You keep posting dragon ball i will keep watching
Ah man the Red ribbon army is the best arc
8:15 if we're to believe Frieza at his word, less than 5 minutes.
My man roshi would've won easily if he didn't use all his energy blowing up the damn moon.
You should watch the whole thing. It gets much better.
Oh wait, the english version removed the song during the final fight??? wtf
Kami put the moon back, I think. I donno if he made a wish or used some god nonsense.
Well at least Roshi had 100,000 Zeni left over……..in the end
Only 30,000 actually.
Really liked this episode
Unfortunate that Death and near-death moments don't mean much anymore. If Goku died in DBS, everyone would say welp I guess we gotta collect the Dragon balls for the next few hours guys
Maybe but, even in DBZ the show is self aware of it. I mean Goku himself says numerous times "we can just wish 'x" back with the dragonballs". It's only bad if the show is like Naruto, and it tries to act like death is meaningful when it's repeatedly retconned.
at some point one has to wonder why they havent wished for immortality or something of the sort at that point... them and death is like 90's kids and jawbreakers lol
If you think about it, Piccolo copied Master Roshi in moon busting.
Wasn’t there a rabbit up there😅😅😅oops
It's still a Melonification if I get here within the first 15 minutes. Wassup Melon
3:26
E.T. phone hoooooooooooooooome!
man they really padded this episode to make it to a 22 minute episode with all those close calls
This is still season 1
freeza fight took five minutes
This is the first real big fight for Goku. Previous fights were easy fights for him, he was stronger than his opponents.
Goku's fight with Jackie Chun and Master Roshi's speech after are what layer the ground work for Goku to keep pushing himself to continue to grow stronger and every other fight he had in dragonball and the saipan saga only cemented his drive to do so later in his life.
3:15 ...why Krillin sound like Oolong?
What’s the Goku ding-a-ling counter up to? 😂
Sooo is that Rabbitguy from Season 1 dead?
I expected you to be a little more impressed. A Moon Destroying Attack so early in, thats probably something you would have expected from King Piccolo, or Tenshinhan.
Anyway, nice plottwist, maybe acbit drawn out.
