Ride on a 1986 Flyer D901. This vehicle is powered by the 6V71N/V731 ATEC. It makes the trip from Kennedy STN to Scarborough STN. Retirement is imminent for this unit. Part 1/2
This is the sound of my childhood ☺ I'll miss that sound along with the NFI D40-89 I'll never forget the days where I actually made the bus sound during acceleration & the sound of the rear doors opening & closing 😄 even if some of my friends thought I was crazy 😅😂 but I gotta admit they sound really good 😋 😋 Now the Flyer D901A's unit numbers #60**-#61** are now taken by the Bombardier TRs 😔😔 This bus could have been 30 years old if it wasn't scrapped Fortunately #6104 has reached that age since it was donated to Bella Enrichment Centre TTC will never be the same without them 😔
I remember when Chicago had these. We had 200 of them here. They were numbered in #9800-9974 and 1600-1624, no #1614. They had the same Detroit as the one in this video. One bus, #9844 had a Cummins engine, sounded awesome! I loved driving them. :)
Nice video! Thanks! I miss these buses. And now the Classics and D40's are gone as well (Except for Toronto Island Classics). So nothing left from the 1980's except for the GM Fishbowls now.
I remember Seattle having these in 1979. They were numbered 1600-1823 (10240D models) and in 1980, 1850-1884 (10235D models) which ran from 1979-1998. They were considered lemons until they put different engines in them, except for 1664 and 1764 (which sounded like what's in this vid) , if I recall correctly. Also, units 1640, 1689 and 1823 had the transdot destination signage and unit 1700 has only the transdot _number_ signage, as opposed to the regular curtain signs.
I like the western flyer d700 bus better, they're all beautiful and very similar to the gmc new look bus a.k.a. the gmc fishbowl bus, the fishbowl buses were the best buses that ttc (toronto transit commission) ever had...

Did some of our 9800s had 6V71N Engine like this one? I think most of them had 6V92TA which why ours were bit faster than these Toronto ones.
After seeing this over 50 times, I've noticed At 2:49 The driver looks back
I love how these Flyers sounded back in the day and also the AM Generals..

Luckily all the Flyers are dead so expect them to be at Hillcrest soon.
OK, so Malvern is gonna keep 6026 in the garage until they find space at hillcrest?
