- Boney M was founded by German producer Frank Farian in 1975 and consisted of four originally Caribbean artists from England, Germany and the Netherlands: singers Marcia Barrett and Liz Mitchell, model Maizie Williams and Bobby Farrell. Boney M. is known for the mix of white and black music; the producer is white and the singers are black. In addition, many songs have a black (emancipatory) background. The group owes its name to the main character Napoleon 'Boney' Bonaparte from the Australian detective series Boney (1971-1972) of which the founder Farian was a big fan.

La canción empieza con un efecto sonoro de percusión que tuvo su origen en los dientes de Farian. Sí, así es, ese sonido que da la bienvenida a la canción fue hecha por Farian tras golpear sus dientes con un lápiz. Ese detalle fue la cortina perfecta para acompañar la pegajosa frase "She's crazy like a fool...", que estaba cantada únicamente por el productor (ya que Farrell no cantaba tan afinado) y que encontraba su respuesta con un llamativo juego de voces hecho por Liz Mitchell y Marcia Barrett encontando fuertemente el: "...what about it Daddy Cool".
Una vez que el empieza el sólo de bajo, la canción toma su dirección para pasarla bien en las pistas de baile y demostrar todo el talento en esas canchas frente a las damas. Asi, y de una manera repetitiva, "Daddy Cool" transporta al oyente a una fiesta privada llena de detalles simples pero efectiso para la industria musical.
