    I considered buying a new Morgan a few years ago so I did a 24 hr hire for about £250 (great idea from Morgan). I really enjoyed the car and was smiling all the time I drove it - did about 250 miles through Mid Wales on a lovely sunny day. In the end though, it was just too primitive for anything more than a quick blast on a sunny afternoon. The roof is really fiddly too (even the 'easy up' version) - I ended up buying an older Mercedes SL instead. At the time a base model Morgan was around £32k - the cheapest car in the range is now over £60k - which takes it out of reach for traditional Morgan owners..... The family sold out recently to a Venture Capitalist company - co-incidence?

    I quite enjoyed this video. It's not so much about the technical details but just what the feeling and experience is like. Who buys a Morgan?... people like me. Saw one at a car show, checked it out, thought I'd really like to get myself one. The problem was that was in 1967, I was seven and my parents were looking at Cortinas and Minis, so it took a while, another 43 years actually, but I bought it, love it, never get tired of looking at it and it will hurt when I have to part with the car some day. Mechanically mine is very different to this car but the quality, the style and to a certain extent the driving is very similar. Shop wisely and they are not too expensive. I highly recommend it. Cheers!

    I share a 2009 Plus 4 with my partner having owned 4/4 for 7 years. We agree with you that it is an excellent car and a considerable improvement on the 4/4. I would like to take issue with you regarding the instrumentation. I consider that the instrument layout on the 2007 Plus 4 is better with the speedometer and Rev counter in front of the driver. My 2009 model had the speedo opposite the passenger and rev counter in front of the driver. I had the 2 swapped over so I’m less likely to get caught speeding. I raised the instrument layout issue with Morgan but, unsurprisingly, have not had a satisfactory answer.
    A very good, enjoyable and enthusiastic report thank you.

    Beautiful car, now with a proper engine and chassis. Shame it's only a 5 speed box, these cars tend to get used over a weekend with some mileage, luggage notwithstanding and Mazda do make a very compact 6 speed. I wonder if it's an option? Radio and heater vents are slightly ridiculous - i.e. might as well not be there. Surely something better than this could be improvised? With the sidescreens off the interior is usually subject to severe buffeting above about 30mph. Was this the situation here or have they managed to way a magic wand at air flow? Good review, and although it may not sound like it I love the cars. Real British skills and engineering.

    Sometimes it is isn't a bad idea to not have air-bags. Particularly when they are faulty, contributing to your injury and death in the event of an accident!
    With the air-bag recall fuckup within the automotive sector and regulatory framework, it can be concluded that there are laws that reward those selling products that don't necessarily match the sales pitch!

    " If you love British, if you voted out of the EU, then this car is for you! "
    Hilarious comment given that Morgan has now been sold to Italian investors. Brexit is going to devastate the UK economy and especially its motor industry - as we are already seeing. Morgan will survive in Malvern because its a niche product but it will have to raise its prices considerably for many reasons.

    • @epincion
      @epincion Před 5 lety

      The UK has/had the 5th largest motor industry in the EU even though it was mostly foreign owned. It employs/employed a huge number of people in the primary industry and in the hundreds and thousands of secondary and tertiary suppliers around the major plants.

    • @epincion
      @epincion Před 5 lety

      I don't disagree with you. Brexit will end the UK car industry except for a few niche makers like Morgan.

    • @JessThompsonHughes
      @JessThompsonHughes Před 5 lety +1

      what a totally ridiculous thing to say. Before we joined the Common Market we had one of the words largest and most successful car industries. It just wasn't (and isn't) in the interests of the Germans for us to be a successful manufacturing industry, so they have planned and managed to successfully de-industrialise us (and often using our own money). Have some pride in this country!

    • @epincion
      @epincion Před 5 lety +1

      @Jess Thompson-Hughes.
      Ah yes, one of the regular conspiracy theories I hear from time to time. "The Germans did it". Variants include the Japanese or Koreans did it.
      The UK car industry circa BL collapsed because it made crap products no one would buy. Since then there has been a major recovery.
      Currently the UK has(had) the 6th largest car industry in the EU with mainline manufacturers such as Nissan, Toyota, Honda, JLR and many niche manufacturers like Morgan, plus some world class and highly specialised parts companies - e.g. Quaife. Its no accident that most F1 cars are made in the UK.
      There are hundreds of secondary and tertiary suppliers of both parts and processes around the main plants.
      Over the decades of UK membership of the EU single market these UK automotive plants and manufacturers have become an integral part of a supranational EU wide very high tech manufacturing network operating under just in time (JIT) processes and rivalled only by the USA. Even Japan and S Korea simply don't have the depth.
      For example in the manufacture of a Nissan in Sunderland the engine crosses the channel on average 10 times in the manufacturing process. All this seamless JIT processing is only possible in the EU single market.
      Overnight on leaving the EU SM this all stops. All goods will now have to be inspected each time they cross the birder and customs and import duties paid. Cars will face a 10% tariff to be sold in the EU. All the manufacturers based in the UK did so because the UK was in the EU SM and they are now leaving because they need to stay as part of the EU wide network and the market is much bigger.
      A car plant is a large inexpensive hangar full of every expensive machinery that is constantly being updated and is totally replaced every decade with the latest model. All the motor manufacturers in the UK have other plant in EU nations and often with spare capacity and skilled workers. What they are doing now is running down their UK plants and building new capacity in the EU. They are working on a 5-7 yr time table to be right out.
      Dieselgate has made this a very acute problem for the UK because all the EU governments have enacted tax and other legislation to phase out diesel engines and force manufacturers to bring in Tesla style all electric cars and the charging network much faster. Billions have and still are, being spent on new battery and car plants ...but all in the EU. The first new all electric models are rolling out from all the EU manufacturers this year. Meanwhile in the UK, Nissan, Toyota, JLR, BMW(Mini) are on 3 day weeks and no major new retooling or retraining is going on.
      There is also the matter that for nearly a year the EU has been advising EU companies that depend on some process or part from a UK based company as part of their own JIT process to find new suppliers outside the EU and the medium and long term term order books of myriads of UK companies have fallen off a cliff as a result.
      Oddly enough the best comment on Brexit came from the US Sec of Commerce Wilbur Ross who, when speaking at a business conference in Cyprus in 2016, described Brexit as 'a monumental act of self harm' but he went on to say, 'it was a God given opportunity for EU (and US) firms to buy UK companies at firesale prices'. He would know, having made his billions on Wall Street buying distressed companies, firing the workers, breaking them up and selling the assets.
      www.thetimes.co.uk/article/use-brexit-to-steal-uk-trade-says-trump-aide-22rkpmfr7
      Now with the UK leaving the EU your idea that the EU will be stealing UK business is going to come true.

    • @epincion
      @epincion Před 5 lety

      Ha ha. I lived and worked in Belgium (and Switzerland) and know France well. I notice you cannot address the substance of my comments on the UK car industry. You really should get out of your media bubble.
      I do agree that a no-deal Brexit is most likely and I'm looking forward to it. It will be closely followed by the collapse of the UK economy in both the short term and longer term. Scotland and NI both strongly remainer (>75% in both) will have left the UK union in a decade (probably under 5yrs for Scotland) and be back in the EU.
      The rump of England and Wales is very sick with a giant boil of pus from 45 yrs of lies about the EU and delusions about the place of the UK in the world. Now as a lone middling nation with shrinking economy and a trapped restive people, England and Wales will be desperate for new trade deals learn to kowtow to the big gorillas on the world trade stage, China, the US and the EU.
      Lastly I note your chosen YT name - makes me wonder if you are like Mark Francois - living in the past and obsessed with WW2 mythology of 'seeing off the Hun'. So sad.
