Based on popular request, here's a Macaco tutorial. This is an intermediate move that can be used as a floreio or an attack - and it rocks!
Feel free to leave comments with suggestions for moves, possible combos and applications, and points of improvement. - Sport
Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials, they are really helpful
Sir, You broke it down INCREDIBLY WELL !!! almost like slow motion though actually being in original regular motion. Really impressed !!! Please keep up the GOOD JOB. Thanks!
Haha! Happy to hear the video helped :)
Very good tutorial, loved the progression and also your honesty when talking about how hard it was for you to learn it.
Thanks! I'm working to make them better with time. I'm open to suggestions of any tutorials you may want to see in the future.
Thank you very much!
Fantastic video dude. Thanks for your tutorials. Great progressions, great demonstrations. 10/10. I look forward to seeing your newer videos, I'm sure you're super good by now!

This is a helpful video,Working on doing a Macaco, I can do a bridge. The last time I did a backflip and got over the hump was in 1982. There was no CZcams back then.
Thanks for the feedback! Happy to hear you are getting back to it!
Thanks man. the tip on using the arms momentum helped me finally commit to getting the twist out of mine.
Gostei mto e vo prática
Obrigado!
Thanks my helper I Am Brazilian
Sending muito axé from Sydney, Australia! Many thanks for the great breakdown, I'm going to refine my macacco with this! Would love to see an au de frente tutorial or ponte walkover tutorial, simple for your level! Axé!
Thank you Neil! I happy to hear people halfway around the world are finding this useful. I appreciate the feedback, and will place the au de frente on my list of future tutorials. I must admit, I have a lot of perfecting to do before I teach it. I'm excited about learning the move, and sharing how I learned with you guys!
You make it look so easy! im trying to teach myself by watching you
That's awesome! Let me know if you hit any walls while learning this move. I'd love to help. Definitely keep me posted once you get this move
I'm nowhere near flexible enough (yet) to get this down, i really enjoy learning basic capoeira kicks and learning its origins though!
That's the beauty of Capoeira. We have the freedom of going at our own pace in this awesome process
Your tutorials are really good!
+yssing Thanks!
Great video. I like that you mentioned it took time to accomplish the move. So many times people expect things overnight.
Beautiful form! Thanks for the tutorial.
ance - When it comes to shoes for Capoeira, I like shoes that are small with simple soles that keep me close to the ground. That eliminates most clunky sports shoes like running shoes, basketball shoes, and crosstraining shoes.
The shoes you see on the video are Rainha, from Brazil. I believe they are for indoor volleyball, and they are also great for Capoeira. People from Capo groups all over the world covet these. I've heard stories of a mestres from Israel going to the Brazilian factory while visiting for a big Capo event, and buying
Helpful tutorial! Thank you!
I love this man do you have an app you can learn from
Pretty cool videos Macaquinho! Took me about a year to get this move. Lol.
Still struggle with this move on my left side, usually end up twisting into a regular au but hopefully that will change with your tips on this video.
Funny is that I actually know CM Bocao, he was at my first batizado like 2 years ago. I train under CM Molejo in Dallas, TX. Both really good capoeiristas. Axe brother!
Good to hear you are with CM Molejo. He came to my first Batizado, and developed a lot of respect for him. I'm looking forward to hanging out with you guys at some point in the future.
the best tutorial for Macaco, unfortunately when I try it I still make a cartwheel but my desire is to learn it ^_^
great stuff, very good tutorial, thanks from Ireland.I am subscribing right now :)
Thank you from Australia! I have always wanted to know what this capoeira move is called, and now do I not only know, but I have a detailed tutorial with a progressive training sequence. The way you put together the final sequences does look very cool as well. Thank you very much!
Legal parabéns ótimo demais parabéns ótimo demais 😉😁💋💋♥️💕💕🇧🇷✌🍉🤝👍🥑🍐
Brilliant thank you!
Muito legal!
Obrigado!
Rad video. Macaco is on my bucket list. I noticed that you're doing boxer breathing as you do certain kicks. Have you done a tutorial on breathing yet?
Brother! Thank you
Amazing! I was going to ask you for a tutorial for the macaco after I watched your video on the au de coluna/gumbi again. These are two moves I've resumed working on. :)
Great tutorial, I actually have a problem with the technique for this but I'm just gonna keep practicing. Keep up posting vids, they are really helpful. Can you post a vid on how to properly do a bananeira?
I'm curios, what's the challenge you are facing with the technique? I'd love to hear about it, so I can help make the videos better in the future and maybe give you some advice.
Also, thanks for the suggestion for a Bananeira vid. I'll put it on my list of vids for the future. Axe!
Thank you so much for a great macaco tutorial! this is such a great help! i'm going to practice my macaco with this! upload more videos for capoeira movements tutorials please? thank you!
succy ananda Thanks for the feedback! I know It's been forever, but I'm working to upload at least two videos a month, and I'd love to hear what you would like to see next.

While the Rainhas are great, they aren't the only shoes that work for Capoeira. They are also limited in quantity now a days. I also like Puma's Redon Move MMA shoes. They are fitted to the foot, and they don't have bulky soles or heels - They also look wicked cool. Amazon has them on sale for just $40 - www.zappos.com/puma-redon-move-slip-on-mma-white-peacoat (and no I'm not related to Amazon in any way, I just happened to be looking for shoes for myself) I hope this helps Lance. Thanks for watching Lance, and feel free to give me any suggestions.
Wow you got skills you tha man
brilliant!
Thanks!
Really nice video!
Joel Walker thanks! It’s an oldie but a goodie. :)
you make it look so easy!! :P
I just spent about an hour today trying to find the links you sent me to this video and the other intro video.
Have you got another tutorial specifically aimed at increasing hip mobility and maybe stretching out the hip flexors ... and lower back etc. That whole region is super tight on me!
Baz Kath glad you found it. Let me know how it goes. Btw, happy to see the updates of your Brazil adventures
I've been practicing capoeira for about a year now and I've found that one of the most troublesome areas for me is improving my Ponte. I have a bit of a deformed spinal cord where a few of my plates pinch in my lower back, which makes back bends extremely hard (But of course I can stick my head between my legs forward...)I can do the version of Macaco that my instructor taught me, which is similar to a grounded backwards Au, but am still unable to handle a lot of the more back intensive flips. Any tips for helping maximize the effectiveness of my stretches? I need to make my back more flexible....

Hey Macaquinho, Tigre of Capoeira Guerreiros here. Those Macacos are so cream. Thanks for this, my biggest problem has been getting my legs to jump and that walk over drill has helped
