The Superspeedways was Earnhardt's own personal playground. When the car owner tells him to go on and drive away because he was slower trying to pull cars with him in the draft you know he had a monster of a machine.
Ned Jarrett telling BP he looks like he has used a lot of bullseye barbecue sauce was classic. Also Jerry Punch talking about how he angered the victory lane guy was funny too.
The movie "Days of Thunder" came out a few days before this race...and that was what came to mind with that big wreck on the first lap. The "Big One" wasn't completely unheard of, but it wasn't a routine thing that happened at Daytona and Talladega before this race.

Around 11:10 they gave the pole time and speed, which can't be right. It says Sacks ran 42.02 seconds, which translates to 214.1837 mph. NASCAR never woulda let them get away with that. I think they meant 46.02 seconds (195.5 and change).
13:40, it still baffles me when the wreck started with 7th through 9th place cars and guys running towards the back of the pack in 40th position still come blazing into the wreck. They had plenty of time to slow down and if they are running toward the back or dead last, why not slow down? You don't have to worry about someone rear ending you.
I loved these days in NASCAR, but this was the first plate race that I'm aware of that 20-30 cars were wrecked at the same time. NASCAR should have known right then that there was a big problem with the direction they were going in with rule changes....
after what's happened in recent years, restrictor plates are a necessity. without them, imagine how much worse dillon's and larson's wrecks would've been.

11am was the start time for this race for years because of how hot it got in Daytona during the summer, thats why the race eventually went to night-time

According to Darrell Waltrip, ( Grain of Salt is up to you) the cars had some sort of a floating block in the carberator, that was giving them "Unapproved" horsepower. Nascar officials discovered it, and made the teams weld the block in place. Therefore the cars at the front, then became a high speed road block, triggering the crash. I dont buy it though. The video clearly shows Sacks getting loose.
I think the old UNOCAL 76 man Bill Brodrick aka "The HAT MAN" that was always in victory lane in the 80s in 90s got pissed because ESPN jumped in and did the interview right away. He handled the product placement and sponsor hat wearing stuff. He wanted Dale to wear a certain hat for the interview and Jerry went with the interview anyway. The rush was because Dale had to leave the track and fly to Cleveland for the IROC race later that day.

Sacks said Petty got loose and he and Cope hit as a result......the replay proved Petty didn't get loose, it was Sacks getting loose, he then got into Cope which put his Lumina out of control and he hit Sacks and the rest including Petty were innocent victims. If anyone got loose to start that crash it was Greg Sacks. I think being part of Days of Thunder went to his head and he thought he was a superstar. History proved otherwise though. The only reason he was on the pole here and good in other superspeedway races that year was because he was running for Rick Hendrick and had top equipment. It was a lot more the car and team than it was driver.

23 cars in both the xfinity race and this race I said 24 a long time ago my error by 1 yes racing reference its 23 okay but yes it was the biggest wreck of the 1990s equaled by the cup race at Talladega in 1997 and xfinity crash in the 1999 wreck at Talladega the wreck you can say cemented me as a fan when that happened Daytona wouldn't see a wreck that large until 2010 when 22 cars crashed.
