At around 53:00 into the concert Vai shows why he’s still at his peak; because he was great 40 years ago. The man is a master 40 years ago.
He shows such skill on the guitar it is truly amazing. He is so charismatic and (guessing) because he thrives on the venue and the crowd. When playing and practicing in isolation it comes nowhere close to his live experience. His interactions with the crowd clearly shows his love for them and the inspiration he derives. They become one. That’s why musicians often point to the live experience as pure nirvana. Bonnet and Vai plus the other band members thrive despite the heartbreak of touring (they do it for us and the money may very well be secondary).
The concert DVD is proof positive on the double disc issued in 2016. GBG NO EDITS.

It’s not Vai, it’s Malmsteen on guitar!

It's Malmsteen on guitar. It says so in the credits & when the band is introduced at 54:13. Malmsteen was sacked from Alcatrazz after this performance for his 'showboating.' He was replaced by Vai.

Yngwie not something else. My sp apologies to him. I saw “G3” with Steve live in a concert and he was fabulous. There were 3 intermissions with all three doing an encore (can’t remember the third virtuoso). Got my moneys worth that time. Front row in the balcony. GBG NO EDITS.

You have a guitar duel and the first thing your opponent does is this movement 30:07 💀

I must say it definitely looks like Yngyie and not Steve at around 35:00 into the concert but Steve gets all the credits and Yngyie gets none and he’s not even introduced as a band member whereas the others also get credit on the fold out and history of Alcatraz which does include Yngyie. It would be very bizarre to have him included with zero recognition although their is a certain animosity with him. He had been criticized for taking over the show. Seems like just prior to Steve’s great solo Yngyie totally destroys his guitar by bashing it to hell. And then Yngyie is introduced by Bonnet. Kind of a bizarre situation. I have a feeling their were 2 different concerts because on line I didn’t see Steve’s solo. The double disc is called “disturbing the peace” and is live in Japan 1984. In any event, Yngyie is great. My apologies. GBG NO EDITS.
