  • On July 17, 1944, Erwin Rommel’s car was strafed by British aircraft after leaving his headquarters. The Field Marshal was seriously wounded and hospitalized with severe head injuries that took him out of World War 2.
The Normandy landings had taken place just a month before, and the British had suspected that Germany had mined the beaches of Northern France, a devastating ploy that could foil their landing efforts. Thus, British Army officer George Lane was sent to gather intelligence.
Lane was captured after having completed two successful missions. He expected to be executed according to Hitler’s Commando Order, but instead, he was blindfolded and taken to a secret location where he met Rommel face to face.
The clever Jewish soldier managed to charm the Desert Fox and hide the fact that he was German and Jewish, and he was then sent to a prisoner camp.
While there, Lane shared Rommel’s location with the other inmates, and after confirming the specific château through a book in the camp’s library, they relayed the information to London via a smuggled wireless radio.
Rommel would be intercepted by British aircraft weeks later, one of many extraordinary accomplishments carried out with the help of German Jewish operatives of the legendary X Troop, whose brave actions would significantly shape the fate of the war…

This video clip reminded me a story about my father.
The Nazis cought him during a round-up. The location was close to a forest and once their counting went on, he slipped into the forest.
A short time later, the local Partizans cought him and recruited him into their group. He fought with them till the end of the war.

They all deserve a new medal just for saving the world, with a ceremony and the whole nine yards. Before they’re all gone they deserve to know that they’re not forgotten and their service and sacrifice is still appreciated today. It can be the “Greatest Generation” medal.

In my father’s family, Japanese was spoken at home, because my grandmother was an immigrant and never learned to speak English. He was recruited for this skill, along with his older sister after she was released from an American concentration camp. Aunt Haruko spent the war decrypting Japanese messages. Uncle John landed in Leyte, and later in Luzon and helped liberate the Philippines. Both later served in the American occupation of Japan, helping form a new civilian government, and hunt for war criminals like their uncle Shigeru.

    • @bracoop2

Although Americans had forcibly concentrated many Japanese and Japanese Americans in to camps, they were nothing like German concentration camps, where millions of people were forced into camps and then slaughtered industrially. The camps in the USA were not like that, but they were terrible in their own way. 120,000 people of Japanese descent, a third of which were Japanese citizens, most of whom lived on the west coast. These actions were initiated by president Franklin D. Roosevelt via executive order shortly after Imperial Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. It was a different time back then.

Jesus, after having gone such a long way, that must've been heartbreaking to see what their families had been through. They went through hell to find them, only to find that their families had been through worse. Incredibly grim, but incredibly courageous. A true test of the human spirit

Excellent video. So inspiring was the X Troop. Overcoming all that they did, even among "friendlies".
You should do a video of the Japanese people whom we (the US) sadly interred and those that chose to fight FOR the United States.

I have heard of the Brandenburg Kommandos, a German unit mainly recruited from Germans living abroad and being able to speak other languages fluently. And probably very motivated, since they made their way back to Germany to fight for their old homeland. I've never heard of the X Troop, but it seems someone in Britain realized, just as someone in Germany did with the Brandenburgers, that highly motivated people with language skills are extremely valuable.

I think The British Government should had reward those brave man.
And put their names on war memorials also.
They fought And die, serving The British Army, so their are so British as The true British, even Without an accent. Forgotten Heros, if wasnt for channels like this, Who do a outstanding job, makes us not to forget.
    Thanks for The wonderful
    Greatings content.

There was a couple of desert war movies, one with Richard Burton, about british troops pretending to be POWs with German guards. The guards were from X Commando Interallied. The movies were fiction but I think based on real events.
