I love whoopie pies, both chocolate, pumpkin and also banana. I grew up and worked in central western PA. There, instead of whoopie pies, they were more commonly called GOBS. A Johnstown based baking company sold them, with the wrapping having the pic of a sailor., gob is a nickname for a sailor. There is also a gob cake, which is baked in two jelly roll pans then put together with a white frosting..
I live outside of Johnstown, lol. I was going to comment that the big argument between our family here and my son in law from the State College area is Woopie Pie vs. Gob. Yes, in the Johnstown area it is a Gob. Then of course there is wonderfully moist Gob cake.

I have lived in Arkansas my entire life. My grandma taught me how to make these. I didn’t realize that everyone else didn’t know about them the way I did until my friends started saying they had never had one and didn’t know what I was talking about. I am in my late fourties’
Difficult to choose as I am surrounded by fruit orchards with several varieties of apples this time of year. It was also a stellar year for Pumpkins; just add the spice and enjoy! I say Whoopie Pies are definitely of Maine/New England origin to join other desserts cleverly named Slump and Grunt, Brown Betty’s, and Pandowdys.
I love pumpkin everything. I live in So Cal, so the weather is too hot to bake until mid to late October. If it weren't for the hot weather, I'd start baking pumpkin everything beginning Sept 1st. My husband is the apple guy. I make sure he gets his fill of apple baked goods.

I’m told pumpkin pie has the least amount of calories than many other pies, not counting the carbs in the crust. Baking it without the crust is great too. Don’t forget the whipped cream on top, might as well go all the way!

I used a different brand of purée other than Libby’s and live in a hot state with a hot kitchen so my batter was very runny. I saw a suggestion from another person to add 3/4 cup extra flour and that helped a lot! They smell so good, I can’t wait to assemble. Thank you for the recipe!
Great recipe. Thanks. I just made them swapping out the flour for a 1to1 gluten free flour, still worked great. I used a no. 30 scoop for the cookies and a no. 40 scoop for the filling. It worked out great for twenty total cookies. Although my cookies were a bit taller/thicker than yours.

I am team pumpkin all the way. I live in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (Amish country) and the whoopie pies here are to die for. In addition to chocolate and pumpkin whoopie pies we also have peanut butter and red velvet whoopie pies. You can easily gain ten pounds when you visit Lancaster County.

Just made this. They are so good and if you mix them like he said they are so soft.
I made this today and it was AMAZING. I replaced the butter with heavy cream and it turned out really good and soft. Highly recommend!

Chocolate ganache would make a great filling. You could probably replace the pumpkin with banana.
