HOW TO DEAL WITH FEAR OF FLYING!

- AEROPHOBIA is the fear of flying (also known as AVIOPHOBIA). Although I’ve flown near (Miami to Costa Rica) and far (Miami to Dubai), I still get some form of anxiety - particularly when taking off and going through turbulence.
BELOW ARE SOME HELPFUL TIPS TO HELP YOU COPE WITH FLYING AND CONQUER YOUR FEAR!
1. Take a deep breath (in through the nose, out through the mouth)
2. Think positive and happy thoughts
3. Ask you doctor about medication to calm your nerves during flight (Valium or Xanax)
4. Sit as close to the front of the plane to feel turbulence less
5. Sit in the aisle seat if you’re afraid of heights. Sit next to the window if you need to see any and everything that’s going on outside.
6. Falling asleep before the plane takes off may be helpful.
#
7. Distract yourself with a movie, music, or podcast
If you try these tips, let me know if they are helpful.

I always think like this: There are thousands of planes in the sky, every night, every day, and you rarely hear on the news that one of them has crashed. Technology has made sure it's a very safe way to travel and the crew know what to do in emergency situations.

I have a fear of flying, and I have been flying often lately. Sitting next to a window helps, as I feel like I know when to anticipate turbulence from clouds, or if turbulence is happening w/o clouds, to remember it’s just the wind streams blowing us around.
Noise canceling headphones also help so much, as I’m so sensitive to any little sound! Stay safe out there! ✈️

I’m a common traveler and have become very used to turbulence, but it’s still scary every time when you feel yourself shaking and dropping! And when the anxiety gets to me, looking outside makes me more scared then I already am. One of the things I do to help myself calm down is distracting myself! Watching a movie, playing a game, listening to music or reading a book! It just helps me kind of get lost on my own world and ignore the negative thoughts outside of me! It really helps! :DD

My first flight ever was in 2013, I paid it no mind and had made it to my destination in no time. I flew again in 2015 with my then boyfriend. He was my support as I felt anxiety rising. By 2017 (my 3rd ever trip on plane), I had a spirit of calm over me for this solo trip. After that experience, I developed an adrenaline for wanting to fly. I had a few more flights after that one, BUT in 2019, I experienced a rough turbulence on a flight and BAAABY that one gave me aerophobia 😞
I took my first international flight this year to Africa. It was smooth, a minor turbulence. But for some reason, I am having an aerophobia attack at this moment as I prepare for my international trip in a few months. I'm watching videos now to calm myself 🙏🏾

How did it go?
First time I flew I was going from Missouri to Alaska. I was in the Army and going to my first assignment. I had a death grip on the arm rests and was extremely nervous. Flight attendant asked if it was my first time. I said yes. She went and brought me two shot bottles of Jack Daniel's and said they were on the house. Now I love flying. I have traveled by all but one mode, and that's a cruise ship. And I plan on doing that at Christmas on the Disney Wish.

Just went on a flight yesterday. Very smooth sailing and landing with very little turbulence. Loved it!!!
So basically I am mostly just afraid of getting sick on the plane. You may have heard of it, but I have emetophobia and it is very extreme. I am going on a plane in may and the thought of the plane/getting sick is starting to give me anxiety even though it is 5 months away…
Thanks for sharing your story. Treating vomit phobia is best accomplished through cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP). Treatment involves correcting faulty beliefs, reducing avoidance, and confronting challenging situations step-by-step. You are given tools, a new perspective, a winning mindset, and a strategy for facing your fears. Your motivation for ending your suffering is important because the therapy does take time, hard work, and courage. You must have self-discipline and determination to win. And if you do…you can beat emetophobia! Please to subscribe to our channel and check out our content. Welcome to #BrundageWorld

I stressed myself up before the flight making it out to be worse than it actually was. Guess what I'm feeling now? Proud - that I did it anyway.
My fear was (and still is) very irrational. Being able to fly isn't difficult - it shouldn't even feel like something impossible to pull off because as a traveler, you're not really doing anything. You just sit back and let the pilots take you from point A to B. I'll probably never like it, but I don't have to. As long as I keep doing it to keep my fear in check. Because let's face it, flying is incredibly useful - and fascinating!
Flying back home from my trip tomorrow, here's hoping we don't crash.
@@correctthatfilthygrammar Guess what? I’M EXTREMELY PROUD OF YOU! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

What things are men allowed to fear? My husband is claustrophobic, does that make him less of a real man to you?
I HAVE to fly to some places. But takeoff and landing make me imagine the worst happening 😂😂😂
I think I just have a fear of takeoff because when the aircraft makes that turn it feels like my body and my soul dropped from the aircraft and I really don’t know what to do about it
I usually drink two beers before flying so I’ll be buzzed then drink more on the plane. I’m an adult. I fly every year one to three times since I was a child and only recently I have become afraid.

I'm so so so scared of flying.. The reason? Bcs most of the air crash happened due to Pilot error ( combination with engine failure) - how the pilot make decisions on handling the error..
One of my friend was in AiAsia QZ 8501 crash, which caused by pilot tried to improvised fixing the alert (due to Rudder error) by resetting the circuit breaker 🥺
Since then I'm so so so scared of ✈️flying
Like : do I really trust these two strangers pilot .. What if the mechanic didn't really check something wrong with the airplane.. It's like mixed thing in my head -- cause anxiety 😰
But what you just said in the vid, indeed help me 20%.. But I'm still scared (I hate it too being like this)
Thanks for sharing your experience. Are you afraid of short or long flights ✈️? In the United States, The FAA regulates the aircraft maintenance. Why would a pilot knowingly fly a aircraft that’s faulty?!? I imagine all countries have safety regulations for the passengers who fly. Just take a deep breath and think positive happy thoughts.
I’m flying from Miami to New York with the children soon ( ages 8 and 5 & it’s the kids first flight). I’m bringing their phones and other electronic devices to occupy their mind. They will also wear headphones to mute the engine noise. I’ll let you know how it goes.

My kids enjoyed their first ever flight. I posted a short video…I’ll share their experience in detail later.
You my friend, have watched many pilot error crashes that most likely happened in 80s - early 2000’s. Training has already been improved a long time ago, for example with korean air, they had a lot of pilot error related accidents until they improved trainings, the last crash from them was 1999 and they hold an amazing safety record now. If anything being in car would be more scary since literally everyone makes mistakes driving everyday single day

I am flying tommorrow for the first time in 3 years and my phobia has got a lot worse as I didn’t use to be scared about flying . But I just need to keep reminding myself that if I was sick it wouldn’t matter. I’ll be sitting with my family and also it’s a plane and people do get sick sometimes , that’s why there is sick bags. So people won’t think im disgusting and disgraceful. They will just be like “oh I guess she got motion sick” . Planes are very safe and they are designed to stay in one piece, they've been designed to fullest safety for the last 100 years. Planes can lose engines but it is VERY rare, and it can run with one engine, and in a rare case of a plane loosing both engines it can still glide to its destination.
Ayee, Aviation enthusiast here! Take aloha 243 for example here, The only reason a plane would fall apart mid-flight these days would be metal fatigue on the outside, metal fatigue isn't really common anymore though, so there's nothing to worry about.

I'm not an aerophobic, but I'm acrophobia (Fear of Heights), and I'm going to visit my relatives; however, i dont know if im going to get anxiety or panic attacks when i fly a plane for first time.
I'm going on my first flight next week, I'm a little nervous, but I think I'll be okay.
I have probably flown on an airplane 12 times and im still scared of it.
@RealLilNiggy I honestly don't know. I just don't like it or feel comfortable. Maybe it's just the thought of being thousands of feet in the air.

The biggest fear I have of flying is the effect of being that high in the sky would have on my sinuses(which are terrible) The last thing I'd want is to get the worst headache of my life or have it mess with my equilibrium and start feeling dizzy
That sucks. Do you suffer from vertigo?
Or motion sickness

Getting on a Plane for my first time in my 37yrs of Life in a couple of weeks and I'm so scared. I'm afraid Ill have a panic attack. I'm afraid of the height and just the whole thing. What can i take to calm my nerves?
I’m not sure if your medical history or allergies you may have so I can’t recommend anything. Some people take melatonin (over the counter) to help you sleep. Thanks for sharing your experience. Check out the description section for tips I provide and let me know if it helps.

As an aviation enthusiast, I never had a fear of flying. Also because I know you’re FAR more likely to get in a car crash than a plane crash.

What should I do about turbulence I always take red eye flights and take some sleeping pills and have a movie on anything else I should do to keep me calm, I just get bad anxiety when turbulence hits

7. Distract yourself with a movie, music, or podcast

Just understand that it is all in your mind. It is nobody's problem. It is your mental problem.
I refuse to go to America again cause 2/3rds of the flights I have had there have ended in emergency landings surrounded by fire trucks or taxing out to the Runway to have to taxie back due to issues that could have made us crash
Sorry you’ve have such a negative experience to America. Where are you usually flying from?
@Brundage World normally from one of the smaller hawaii islands to the main island (and back) or the main islan back to Australia
