I doubt the CMAs ever saw such a great number of talented black people on stage before, thanks to Maren Morris pushing the envelope in country music combining glorious black gospel singers with a killer brass section dripping with New Orleans jazz. What a fusion of gorgeousness - thank you Maren for not playing it safe and giving us something to celebrate.

The jazz band is an awesome band from New Orleans called Preservation Hall...seen them live they r 👍🏼 (and am not a huge jazz fan)

Flawless! The intro is perfection as well as the rest of Maren’s performance, the band is terrific, those back up singers’ harmonies are beautiful , set design was well lit, pun intended… yeah, I guess that’s my church too.

This young lady is just fantastic. Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Lauren Alaina and Danielle Bradbery are the future of country music. They are so talented and will carry the Country Music ladies for the next 40 years.

It's country period with a little gospel in this song but she's a country singer listen to all of her music she writes it all she writes the music she plays the guitar and she sings her ass off she's done a few pop songs but that does not negate the fact that she is a country singer the song doesn't sound r&b or pop

She is amazing!!! She paid her dues and actually writes a lot songs, love country music in general, have my whole 43 years of my life!!! When you think about it though, I love Merle, Waylon, George Jones, George Strait, Conway Twitty, Garth Brooks of course and they are amazing!!! This girl though, takes pride in writing almost all of her own songs and that is really cool to me!!! She is also amazingly beautiful!!! Lol

Her gospel laced country sound recalls the sound of outlaw Tanya Tucker on Delta Dawn. I'm not surprised because Morris is an outlaw too. She showed that in her song In The Middle. She refuses to play by the "rules" laid out by country traditionalists 👋

I remember vividly when this song came out in the middle of a whole bunch of garbage in music being released and I was like yes something good this year. And this performance is what music is all about you can see the pure joy and triumph radiating from her for those that don’t know in an acceptance speech that night she said the last year she was watching the awards across the street on tv, that night she played her song

If her band looked and sounded diverse that's appropriate. Country music is the child of music from the rural black communities and Appalachian hollows and barrios on the southern border and wide open spaces in the West. Her music is just as country as the music that sounds like it was made by hayseeds pluckin' a fiddle after fryin' cakes on the griddle.
