1994-99 Toyota Celica Steering rack removal / rack n pinion

I think it's something I'm going to have to tackle on my 97 celica. Has 250k miles so probably pretty worn. It leaks power steering fluid and makes a knock when turning at low speeds.

Hi Sebastian, luv ur videos, im from trinidad i also have a 94 6gen with a redtop beams 4ws I'm having problems finding parts. Any ways i saw you replacing your rack. What I'm looking for is rack bushings left side and right side, cud u help me plz if u can plz let me no looking forward yo hearing from you, thank u very much

Any suggestions on how to remove the steering shaft from the rack? Alot of PB then block of wood/hammer and it won't budge

maybe an air hammer on the rod itself to break it free?

Heat heat heat. Propane torch should do it, hit the shaft with it and not the rack with it so the shaft expands

Is this a similar process on a 5th gen celica to remove the rack?

I have not worked on a 5th gen so i cannot confirm that.

Yes it is pretty much exact same even same rack just use lots of pb cuz it’s older and more rusted on

Gotta make an update video on this but the power steering rack has developed a tiny seepage. Idk if they missed the torque spec but idk. I’ve only bought control arms from them that’s about it, no axles. Control arm is still holding up fine

I'm beating myself up for not replacing my steering rack when I did my 1mz swap. Of course it's leaking now 🥲
