    Turning your shoulders on the wrong plane causes many problems in golf.
    If your shoulders turn on the proper axis your head will remain steady. Dustin Johnson, Tommy Fleetwood, Rory McIlroy and Joaquín Niemann all turn their shoulders this way.
    Things don't happen parallel or level in the golf swing. The shoulders turn off kilter or askew to what you'd think they should. Turning the shoulders properly allows the club to move smoothly through impact.
    We have all seen the club across the shoulders demonstration and drill which is advocated by many instructors but it's not how the shoulders turn and it's just wrong!
    Please excuse the out of focus video. My monitor cam's batteries died and it reset the focus lock when that happened.

    I have been playing golf for 40 years. I have played some really good golf and I have played a lot of really bad golf. A couple months ago I decided I was going to throw out everything I thought I knew about the golf swing and start over. Just do what felt good instead of thinking about any mechanics. The first thing that happened after many thousands of practice shots was I tilted myself away from the target so my torso and eyes felt like they were behind the ball. I also glued my trail upper arm to my side so it would stay tucked in to avoid bad pulls. I also put my trail hand in a position that felt like it was under the shaft. With this grip I feel like my wrists whip the clubhead through impact with amazing, effortless power. By keeping that tilt away from the target during the swing I feel like as you said, I am turning myself inside out. I also feel like now it is like swinging a hammer. Very free and almost always perfect center strikes. Never felt this type of confidence and freedom in my swing. Now I know what it feels like to play golf instead of playing golf swing. I can focus on the things that matter now like strategy. Life is good.

Overhand's golf tips have worked instantly for me compared to all the really good golf instructors on youtube, (Malaska, Cogorno, Ryan, Shields, etc...) that I believe they're giving great advice but I just cannot integrate it. OK, I haven't taken this to the range or course, so it's premature in regard...but the Holy Grail worked instantly and insanely well for me...and I mean more or less with the first ball I hit! Good grief sir, another fascinating lesson, thinking aloud this is totally sound in its logic, and is something to work with! I played a second round yesterday tentatively using your methodology, and hit several , what i considered to be 'professional' shots even though im an 18 handicapper, my score was ordinary because of short game failings, the sense of purpose and intention on those fine shots was very 'curious' as in nearly 50 yearsof playing golf ive never felt such before, i must admit im beginning to get excited again at the prospect of playing golf. Must mention one of my drives yesterday was as good or better than any ive done ever! A powerful soft draw hit well over some hazardous water, into the heart of the fairway, sweet ! Cheers

    Using the Holy Grail as my Guiding Light has resulted in very good results for me. Whenever you release a new video I immediately relate it to the central concept of moving the shaft (force of motion) at the imaginary ball. This video / concept fits into the HG perfectly. In fact it explains exactly how to move the shoulders in the Holy Grail. Further clarification of how we stay below the club and how the swing is an overhand motion. Thanks.

    • @fastbusiness
      @fastbusiness Před 3 lety

      I think that's what causes it. When I "chicken wing" or go over the top, it is usually because I haven't shifted to the left side properly so I can rotate around the spine correctly. I think you should rotate around the secondary spine angle (tilted away from the target). That makes the left shoulder go up and the right side go under, out, and around properly. The head has to stay back and the hips are more toward the target. It feels like you are going to hit way out to the right but you don't.

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  Před 3 lety +11

      The simple answer is, "when it needs to." If you transfer weight -- a term I dislike -- I prefer pressure shift, you can't do it until you're body is ready. Turning the shoulders in this manner keeps you more centered but the swinging arms and club at full speed weigh about 100 lbs, so they'll pull you up and through when you're ready. If you try to control these things consciously you'll never get the timing right.

    Hi Greg, thank you for this explanation. I started to bomb my drives long and straight at the range today but I noticed I was across the line big time at the top of my swing. Does this matter? Keep up the great content!

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  Před 3 lety +2

      No! Would you tell John Daly or Jamie Sadlowski to shorten their swings? The only thing that matters is that you approach the ball on plane. I'd actually like my swing to be a bit more relaxed at the top. If you're hitting the ball well, leave it alone. If you're over the top, I made a video about that. The game is about ball flight and the direction. There are no points or score for swing perfection.

    The side tilt you put in for the backswing needs to start to come out and go to the other side before you turn. For a right handed, the left bend needs to become right bend as you turn. Tilt and turn back, tilt and turn through to a finish.

    I see how the shoulder tilts when you get your head over your right foot---is there a back swing video that shows how you get to that position? Played today and got myself into this position and hit some monster drivers and irons--lost it after a few holes and didn’t know how to get it back🙃

  • @hclh570

    In order to get the tilt to the trail side, what do you think about having a preset stand with a primary side tilt?

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  Před 3 lety +2

      I think it's absolutely necessary. It would be quite rare to hit the right pose if you didn't preset for it.

    • @pigslefats
      @pigslefats Před 3 lety

      Too me it looks like the approach angle into impact will be too much in to out with this swing. In my opinion you need to rotate more into impact and through impact coupled with right side bend, if you're right handed. Don't forget to have a bent trail elbow at impact to aid the forward shaft lean (hands ahead of ball)

      Yes. It's crazy but our goal is to hit the golf ball, not make a beautiful swing. If we learn to hit the ball properly we end up with a beautiful swing but if you go about the other way around you end up with neither.

      I'm happy to hear that I've done another person good! How 'bout a tip? www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=D9KLSZE47S8AY
      People pay hundreds for a new driver or irons and thousands more on DVDs and lessons that do them little or no good. I have truly simplified the swing to the point of almost near ridiculousness and it's transforming people's golf games. This is my only source of income these days as the company I worked for has gone under.
      My wife keeps saying to me, "Why are you just giving it away for free? You're wasting your time!" I'd like to prove her wrong.

    I really like this clarification. Just thinking It’s sort of the “reverse K” like position isn’t it?
    Also the only issue I’ve had at times with this sort of pivot concept is potentially not getting the body forward enough prior to the shoulder coming around and extending.
    Any sort of thought you have in terms of ensuring your body gets forward enough? Such as the left shoulder coming far enough forward to ensure the bottom of swing arc is far enough forward - not too hung back?

    • @HolyGrailOfGolf
      @HolyGrailOfGolf  Před 3 lety

      Practice. We need practice to gain confidence. Without confidence you'll be second guessing and changing things. I'm sure you, like almost everyone, has hit a great shot and then realized you weren't thinking about it at all. You did it and it worked perfectly. That's where we want to get on every shot. Unfortunately, we just have to learn to do it, instead of thinking about it. I hope that helps.

    Please allow one question to clarify: I hear so often „keep the trail shoulder back on the way to impact“, that would be a concious holding back for my opinion. When I watch your explanation, I think, it‘s not that concious holding back motion of the right shoulder, instead the right shoulder is automacally back (and down) in relation to impact point because of the different axis of the turn, which is more, let me say , behind than over the ball. Am I right? Thanks, regards from Germany and happy Christmas. Great work!
