Aside from the Green River I would say the Provo River is probably Utah's most well known trout stream. It flows thru central Utah and has 3 distinct sections. On this day we were fishing the lower section. This is a tailwater fishery coming out of Deer Creek Reservoir, which keeps the water cool during the summer and warm during the winter. The lower Provo is followed by the Provo Canyon Trail giving excellent access to 20 miles of river. Traffic from the nearby highway can be a little bothersome and there are a lot of bicyclists on the trail. Once we got below the inlet structure the roar of the rapids helped to drown out the traffic noise. At one time the Provo was considered the most heavily fished stream in the USA. This is due to good access, good fishing, a long fishing season and a lot of people in near by Salt Lake City. I recommend fishing small flies to help fool the highly educated fish.

Welcome to Utah. A lot of the Lower Provo is now private property which has generated lawsuits. Areas that were accessible for numerous years are now no longer accessible. Very sad. Between the 3 year drought and fires many of the best fisheries were destroyed but beginning to heal. Another great video and great looking fish.
