Man's said he's going into the Hall as a Raptor and that Raps organization still hasn't made the jersey retirement call yet... Very happy that the Nets will bestow the honour first and give half man half amazing the respect he deserves. The Nets are a great organization and VC was the human highlight reel of the 2000s.

My favorite player of all time. The greatest to dunk the ball. The most athletic explosive super exciting must watch highlight reel NBA player I've ever seen. That move to NJ made you hit your prime. That Kidd-Carter connection was like none other, the great alley-oop duo in NBA history. Countless clutch moments and buzzer beating game winners. Very underrated defensively. You had an amazing all-around game with the Nets. Thank you for all the wonderful memories, you do not know the hundreds of millions you inspired around the world. Thank you VC, your number is so well deserved to be up there with Jason Kidd, and your number MUST be retired where it all started in Toronto! Retire 15 now!

I will never forget that shot. The first game back to Toronto after being traded from them to the Nets! That crowd was hella loud and gunning for blood, they wanted him to fail so bad!! And when he hit that dagger 3 in their face and stood there like "Say something Toronto Say something now!" Baaabaay I was screaming for joy I was so happy for him. Vincent Lamar Carter you are the very reason why I started watching basketball!

I saw Vinsanity play with J Kidd in the NJ days - and Im from flatbush - in a game against the Bulls - we were down 22 and came back to win plus had 3 top ten Sportscenter plays. Only birthday gift I really remember well. Vince is the greatest dunker of all time and an amazing player who evolved and grew. Much love to VC.

Despite his blip as a young man in Toronto, Vince has been a fantastic role model on the court and off. He is a LEGEND even if he didn’t live up to the MJ comparisons. He is the most electrifying athletes I have ever seen. He has inspired a ton of Canadian players and we have some nice ones. He had the league in his hands for a few seasons. He played through four decades eventually prolonging his career, accepting role player/coach on the court roles, limited minutes and declining numbers. Can’t tell me VC doesn’t breathe this game. His Nets years were phenomenal especially 2007…wow!! Congrats Vince! Toronto, do the right thing!!

I remember watching him play in college when I was in high school and being amazed by his athleticism. You just knew he was going to be great. His elevation was on another level.

This guy made me want to dream of dunking despite the lack of height. The dream never came but I am thankful that he inspired me to play basketball during my younger years and help me do workouts like I'm a pro athlete. Thank you Vince!

My game growing up (because I'm Gen X), Shawn Kemp, and Dennis Rodman is who i molded my game off of. When I got around to my late 20's, Vince Carter popped on the scene, especially when he came to Oakland for his first dunk contest, I INSTANTLY added him to my game aswell, and in my last years of playing basketball at a high level, I was able to be remembered in MY hometown as one of the great dunkers, rebounder, go to the hole MONSTER ! Basically, what im stating is... there are no great role models anymore, and I thank the Most High for allowing me to know what that felt like. Salute 🫡 Vince, one of my Top 5 players.

Vince Carter made me love basketball so I'm forever grateful for that man. But I would contest his jersey being retired with NJ. I don't think he did enough there, and he had too many pretty bad playoff series in the few years he spent there. Retiring his Toronto jersey, I get it, but I'm not sure about NJ.

No, not really. He saved their season to get in the playoffs as soon as he got there. Then the team lost in the second round to the eventual conference champs twice in the following years. Then Kidd and RJ got traded away and he was mentoring a young team that won 34 games. After they traded him away the next year was lottery time, as they dropped from 34 wins with to 12 wins without.

How he left Toronto is like a missing part of his life, the most significant as a professional. You can see that he wishes it was the Raptors that hung his jersey. The team that he put on the map and the team that gave him everything and unfortunately didn’t have the means or management at the time to help him win a championship.
Sad actually, wish he retired a Raptor and buried the hatchet finally.

I feel sorry for Nets fans when the franchise feels the need to elevate this guy. He wanted to be inducted into the HOF as a Raptor. His best years were spent in Toronto. But apparently, this is the best the Nets have ever had, so they have no choice.
