- Watch this 16-story high-rise building being tested for 4 ground shaking intensities: VII, IX, X and XII (x2). These are associated with Mercalli scale and NOT Richter scale.
Video chapters:
0:00 - Intensity VII, ~about 6 Richter, location near epicenter
0:29 - Intensity IX, ~about 7 Richter, location near epicenter
1:28 - Intensity X, ~over 7.5 Richter, location near epicenter
2:29 - Intensity XII, ~over 7.8 Richter, location near epicenter
7:42 - Intensity XII, 2nd test.
In the real world, larger ground shaking intensities have been observed with smaller magnitude earthquakes then written above. One example is the Great Hanshin earthquake that hit the city of Kobe. Registering only 6.9 Mw, it caused severe ground shaking intensities of XII near the fault rupture area.

I hope these simulations will bring more earthquake awareness around the world and educate the general public about potential earthquake related hazards. SHARE this video on social media
to spread more awareness about
earthquake damage!
This earthquake collapse simulation was created in Blender 3D with the Bullet Constraints Builder (BCB - a structural simulation code made by Kai Kostack) which extends Blender´s basic physics functionality with a sophisticated toolset to simulate load dynamics in building structures.

Earthquakes!
Ok.
Each building has an interior "core" made of stronger materials. It is interesting to notice how the reinforced concrete shear walls in the core are still standing after the violent ground shaking! The elevator shafts are always located in the core. Thanks everyone for watching! :)
So I think this is roughly the same as 2023 Pazarçik earthquake, true? It also had a roughly PGA of 2.1 g
I always say the elevator shaft is the safest part of a building but no one listens
Same thing happened with Champlain tower south in florida. Only thing is, there was no earthquake at all…
Addtui
It is interesting to note that the core is the strongest part of the building, and therefore the safest in a high-rise/skyscraper.
What core?
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 Lift shaft.
@@Usagi98962 hmm
I think that's by design. I know that this is for earthquakes, but in tornado country, people in high rises are told to head for the core, which will also have emergency stairways, for shelter. A tornado won't damage the frame like an earthquake would, but it would destroy everything else in the building. The reinforced core protects everything vital.
This theory has been proven before, say the collapse off the World Trade Center on the September 11 attacks, both towers core stood strong after the exterior support of the building already went, the south tower being for 5 whole seconds and the north tower being a whopping 10 whole seconds. Granted they eventually fell with the rest of the building but they still stood strong enough for a somewhat long time.
It's really neat and cool to see where it structurely failed, at the 1.5G the one corner in the front right bottom corner was damaged and the 2G crack in that same area just couldn't withstand the severe shaking 👍🏻👍🏻
Nice Video! Love to see more of this, keep it up!
The rendering on this left be wowed.
I don't know if i told you before, but you should totally release a software/game that applies the same principles that blender does but in an easyer way to use so everyone can make their own simulations and maybe even thest their own home.
as for the building, in this one you can see the shake travel up the structure because of the light backgrownd. again, most renders i think are better done like this (at least the daytime ones).
I'm hoping to partner with a company and release a game in the future
@@EarthquakeSim you listen here, if that happens i will pre order that shit faster than a 14 year old saying some edgy shit
Wooow this build is very beautiful👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! I love the road with street lights, the cars on the road, and the underground parking garage. I would also love to see the building at night with lights and cars on the road with headlights. That would be soooo awesome!!!
Scary, These buildings are comparable to Anchorage's highrises....
You're right! I got a chance to visit Anchorage 5 years ago
i see your sims are improving good job
For earthquake safety, It's important to have walls on all four sides of a building, rather than cheaping out and only bothering with three exterior walls. Otherwise chairs and bookcases can just fall from the upper stories and land on people, which will cause problems and lawsuits even if the building itself survives. Four walls are also much better for reducing heating and cooling costs and for keeping water out.
Nice job Mr. Shear Wall. It did it's job surprisingly well.
thank you! I think a good lesson could be that the elevator shafts are pretty sturdy. :)
Really amazing video to see play out! I wonder if the lobby was a boring, non-double height floor and those base columns had lateral support that this tower would've resisted some of the highest intensities?
I enjoyed the stream Thank you😊
Me too👍. I enjoy EarthquakeSim’s livestreams😁
props to the train who survived the whole thing
This is the best tower simulations!
ngl you animation getting improve, nice
Atleast he didn't actually simulated real life earthquakes...
no one was hurt, but everyone learned something :)
Did you know? These are extremely realistic simulations. He just went to turkey a few months ago to make it as realistic as possible. It was so realistic it hit the news media 😂
@@CoolCademMAnimates-fz1ui WHAT THE FU-
Also dat train just chillin down there 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃
Yes, some of buildings didn't destroyed in 1999 Gölcük earthquake(2.06g PGA).
Yay he posted again
I'm always posting something new😁
That building still took quite a lot of punishment before failing. Not until 7.8 did we get collapse. RC Shear tends to perform really well in our models so this is interesting to see
Hey man could you probaly do the same bulding with the same destructions but just from the inside how it would look that would be very interesting
Note to self… run to the center stairwells!!!!
« XII, 2nd Test » It takes time for the building to collapse after the shaking stops.
Kinda very scary, the people in there would probably think the nightmare was over but then in a few seconds they were in another world. 💀
How do you make these animations?
Can u try to do lebanon buildings earthquake simulation?
I feel the need to mention the fact that this video, alongside basically all of yours, use the Mercalli scale instead of the Richter scale. It's a pain to convert between the two, as a magnitude 7 earthquake is *33* times stronger than a magnitude 6.
Bro can you make simulation for high-rise buildings in Istanbul? Expected earthquake is around 7.5
Fun fact in Japan buildings were made to wobble around and stay whole in an event of an earthquake or typhoon and even tornadoes and Tsunamis
Does this hurt the building?
Cool simulation but why's there a train under the road😂👍
I really like the parking garage under it.
Do you know what shockers are?
Please make a simulation of Chile's earthquake from 1960!
Please make a video with 40 and 70-storey highrise! 😁
some earthquake has very high instrument recorded acceleration. However its duration is too short e.g. less than 1s and is not suitable for directly assigning MMI.
Can you do a strike slip fault?
I actually want to simulate how a fault ruptures. That would be unique on CZcams!
Moral of the story, always stand near the fire escapes where the main pillar of the building rests
Looks like the best chances for survival in this scenario would be to be in the core of the building where the stairwell is located.
So in a serious earthquake try to get to the lift well?
It's the sturdiest part in a building. If the earthquake is strong enough that might collapse as well
bro the chairs took "to the left, to the left" personally
Like the left or right side are moving?
yep! thank you for the suggestion!
Where can you buy glass like that? Just pick it up out of the wreckage to reuse when rebuilding.
interesting how in the 2nd 2G test it didnt immediately collapse. It just weakened it so it wouldnt be able to carry the weight on top and collapse
Fun fact:The XII earthquake looks like the earthquake in Thōku
What app is this😊
3d software 🙂
The people who live on the side that survived are saying 'we not only survived but those noisy neighbours are gone as well'.
would getting under a table help
I find it funny how that single glass panel fell.
This is the size of most offices towers in Northern California at least here in Sacramento.
Thanks for the feedback🙂
Did you forget VI intensity? I think you have to edit this video now.
Average japanese sand castle with earthquake resistance :
Those trees were STRONG! Perhaps we could learn something from them? 😉😆
is it a game yes or no?
Nope it's a3D modeling software 😁
Pls add a 2012 earthquake sim with the ground falling like the movie 2012 and when California clopases
It would be nice to have mannequins, just like the crash test dummies, in the apartments 😉
8:30 it moved the train but not the cars? Lol
Earthquake😮
xll
I guess if i'm in skyscape when there earthquake. GO FOR ELEVATOR SHAFT AND PRAY!
HI!!!
5:24 ight im out seeya
Me thinking all the earthquake is kinda low
game name
it is a 3D modelling software :)
thx@@EarthquakeSim
Ok
Be honest, you would have been disappointed if it didn't collapse.
Sooo.... moral of the story is hide in a train tunnel during an earthquake 😂😂
Rember the turkey earthquake 😔
Eiffel Tower
Inside the twin towers on 9/11 6:57
Poker face
Earthquake awareness about damage? What does that even mean? Unless someone is interested in this it’s not something to promote as something necessary that will change the world and make it a better place
