Fourth CWR Train for 'Keag! Chasing OT-1 From Greenbush to Enfield -7/18/23

  • On July 18, 2023, I got word that OT-1 had picked up a Continuous Welded Rail Train at Northern Maine Junction in Hermon, bound for the major rehab project at Mattawamkeag. Later in the day, I would manage to catch up to them as they headed east at Greenbush, shooting at several locations before they tied down for the night in Enfield. A standard cab Guilford leader would add to the interest; there are only four of these remaining on the former Pan Am system. This is the fourth Continuous Welded Rail train to contribute to the project, likely to be dropped somewhere in the vicinity of the Mattawamkeag Yard where there is still light rail present.     Always like to see the CWR!
    You mention there are four GRS standard cab GP40s left, I thought there was five, unless one got pulled recently (305, 306, 315, 316, 319)

    Great video my Brother, Big and I mean Big Money heading North from CSX.
    Containers in St John and other ports are the Target I believe.
    All To head to Worcester Mass and Jump on the old to B+A Eventually then west to Syracuse / Chicago etc?

      Basically only for work trains, so like once every few weeks.

      ​@@BranchlineGeepProductionsI think it's ridiculous they already pissed their new customer off in Enfield and stopped using the centerbeems for moving lumber .I'm sure the truck drivers were shooting off fireworks knowing they won over the sensible way to move freight again.Im really disappointed in CSX for doing that.

      CSX had a talk with them before the trackwork commenced and it was agreed upon to utilize trucks temporarily. You can't effectively serve a customer when the mainline is like that. Pan Am tried to and we know where that got them.

      @@newpylong I have no idea where you got that info, but there is nothing "temporary" about it. Chris and Jason purchased Gerald Pelletier Inc as well as another company in Woodville, so the trucking division would have enough drivers and terminals near by, to permanently fill the void left by CSX (and CPKC to some extent).
      CSUX let loads sit from November of 2022 to April of this year, those cars were loaded and unloaded three times in that timeframe. Even leading up to that point service went to shit right as the takeover was happening. As much as people hate Pan Am, they still served PRL better than CSX has. Going back to last spring, trips up there went from every week, to every other week, and then if they were lucky maybe once a month. Prior to the sale to CSX, PRL wanted to get logs by rail (most likely from log yards in Island Falls, Houlton, and Ashland) and Irving was also in play with that. At one point, they wanted to do 20-28 inbound/outbounds a day between logs and finished lumber. That also included moving the Brownville transload operation to Enfield. But since Enfield is over 1,400 miles from Jacksonville, CSX could care less about them.
      My brother is one of the investors in the company, both CSX and CPKC burned the bridge they had with the Brochu's. They are still doing a minimal amount of lumber by rail at Brownville and Jackman, but CPKC has imposed car limits per week at Jackman. Despite Irving and PRL being competitors, the two have a very good relationship, since PRL is supplying most of the biomass for Saint John. Not to mention the fact that A&A Brochu is maintaining many of Irving's woods roads, while Irving provides foresters for A&A's land. If they ever expand rail service again it will be on Irving and not one of these Class 1 hack operations.
      This one mill isn't the only place feeling the pinch by CSX including the last couple of paper mills. CSX's only interest is in the intermodal fantasy CPKC has. Considering that Patterson now oversees operations concerning the EMR-CSX interchange, after he left on unfavorable terms (I have yet to hear a concise story about him, either he was fired or left voluntarily after CSX found he was getting kickbacks) I don't really see EMR being very warm to CSX. Things aren't going the best with CPKC, with the managers in Saint John pitting our transportation guys against CPKC's transportation guys who are in the same situation.
