On the first day of Rousseau Christmas, the night was silent! It's hard to comprehend how a simple melody like this one can contain so much nostalgia, but every time I hear this song a rush of memories come flooding back to me, so what better way to start off the week than with a tranquil arrangement full of rich voicings! The impact this song has had on human history is pretty incredible to think about as well: on Christmas Eve in 1914, in the trenches of WWI, a German officer named Walter Kirchoff (tenor with the Berlin Opera) sang Silent Night, to the unexpected applause of nearby enemy French soldiers. What followed was the Christmas truce of 1914 - a moment where, for one day, opposing soldiers stopped fighting and traded, played soccer, and sang carols. With its message of tranquility and hope amidst the violence of war, Silent Night is often credited as the carol that paused World War I. I hope that this warms up your Monday ♥

"sleep in heavenly peace" Christmas is my fathers favorite holiday and he became very sick and passed away back in 2020. I always tear up to this great arrangement. Merry Christmas to all you folks!

Composed and lyrics written by 2 Austrian fellows the German title "Stille Nacht" is (of course) the original. ;-)

The largest required span of this song is actually in 72 (3:10) with a 9-span, this is the maximum I can reach with my hands. However, possibly you may roll here as well?? It is not quite clear how long the advice "arpeggiate chords" applies, as the last two coords have dedicated arpeggiate markings.

As the story goes.. Franz Gruber wrote Silent Night, just prior to Christmas Mass @ his church. They had discovered that mice had gotten into the organ, and chewed it to pieces- leaving no form of musical instrument for the mass. He then wrote this piece... and decided to pull out a guitar, and try it to see if it would work. It did- and a legendary piece of music was born.
Even with cold November days like this, Rousseau still finds I way to warm our hearts❤️
My only wish for this Christmas is that I can hug my friends and everyone I know. I don't want any presents I just want a hug. :)

I don't make comments like this, but this was my grandma's favorite Christmas song. She recently just went to the other side, and it was the very first death in my family of someone I was close too. It was a few months ago, and it's so heartbreaking. I cannot believe she's gone, but I can not do anything about it. I really love your work, and thank you for doing a very beautiful cover of this. It makes me think of her, and brings a joy to my heart that I have not felt in a while.

This is going to be the first Christmas I celebrate without my dad. This song... the first song I ever learned on the piano when I was a kid was Silent Night. The first song I mastered with my voice was Silent Night, and my dad was there at every recital, every performance. Hearing this wonderful rendition now just reminds me of him, and how much I miss him.

@@Coricot not quite really, you can still break those chords (rolled chords) if you don't have large hands with long fingers, practicing will never make it possible for you to reach 11th if your hand span is only 9th at max!
