Turning a $100 Marketplace alloy bull bar into a awesome looking polished bar! This was a bit of an experiment and I think it turned out great and very budget friendly!

When cutting ali you can just use wax on the cutting disc, cut into a candle then when disc grips up again just repeat. Same as when sanding it, Works well good and no mess 👌

At first I wasn’t sure but after seeing it in the sun it looks terrific! paint looks mint as well!
At first was unsure if it would look good but once the bar was on there all polished up with the spare wheel on it really popped with the paint, looks great absolutely loving the look of it

I'm a hoops on man. I love in WA where roo's and cows are everywhere on the road so full frontal protection required. With no lights and everything all blocks it reminds me of the American Scout pick ups.

Man that's a sick result for the amount spent. See alot of people with 79s leaving the bumper on but like you said they can stick forward and look like a fat bottom lip. Keen to see if you can fit a winch, and I think if you put some spotties on would look mint.

Looks awesome and different than every other patrol.
Consider grabbing some metal polishing grinder wheels it’ll bring it up allot more as the grinder can generate more heat
Bumper looks good for what was spent on it, I would keep polishing it some more to match chrome grill a bit more.

Looks terrific, I used to run polished alloy. I reckon if you hit that thing with some purple polish. you'd get a bit more shine.

I bought a very similar alloy bar for my 80 Series to replace the "factory" Bocar bar. It has a hole for a winch but no cradle. I was thinking of cutting the hoops off too. I saw what you saw & it looks good to me
I was going to say, you don't want to polish that inside. Especially with the car also in there

We use a bar of sunlight soap and the orbital sander to clean
get it pro polished to a chrome like finish. it will match the grill better.

I would have chosen the josco bar type polish also (blue for alloy) do with sisal wheel then onot the stitched calico to finish. a lot cleaner and very effective
I had a similar bar on my GQ a couple years back. Bent it after hitting a rock at Yalwal. Thinking i might do the same thing if i get another GQ.

I've got the same ugly tjm bar on my gq, i really like the original bumper style but not for $500!. Definetly gonna try this. its gonna get scratched on the tracks so I'm not worried with the weld marks etc!
maybe just add a small front hoop where you can fit some spotties or a small light bar. Looks good mate!

Looks mint. Don't clear coat alloy it will never last and turn to shit. Ppf it instead also if you use a rotary sander and variable speed polisher with a cut bar and finish bar you'll get your mirror finish alloys alot harder to work with then paint to polish. Still come up unreal tho 🤙

It's probably better off just polishing the bullbar as it was at least then you have something to protect your front from any wild animal strikes

Looks mint against the chrome grill and wheels. More polishing before you clear coat it though. Needs to be closer to the shine of the grill👍

came up a treat with all that polish work bro, the only thing I would say, only because you asked is to me the chrome grill and the alloy look slightly off due to the different finish on both.

Hey mate, love the look! Shes clean. Hey i got a question....you have a fmic but also the 79 scoop. How do you find running it like that? Ive heard having a scoop when running a fmic can cause issues with airflow in the engine bay. Cheers

I'm alone here, but the lower cross bar had to go, but I'd kept the uprights and hoops, that would have looked great, just my opinion though.
Would have been a lot more work though, 😂.

Can you split window tint like TJs 79 series
Ditch the flappy disks and get some backing pads and sanding disks. Then a block of wax for lube.
Flappy disks are way to expensive and 'scallop' out your base material too easy
Are you not concerned with gear ratios now that youve moved up to 35" tires. I thought you would've regeared when you e-locked the diffs
I think it needs to match the chrome of the grille, it looks ok but will look shmicko if they're the same chrome

Zero structural strength remaining. The first tap and it will be mangled and bend your guards. Could have left the lower pipework on.
