Definitely agree with your comment on the CPA. Although it might not be a requirement in industry, it definitely sets you apart and is noted as required or preferred on higher level job postings. That’s why I decided to get it as well.

Thanks for sharing! I have a Bachelors degree in Accounting and used to be an accounting clerk at a logistics company. I wanted to be a staff accountant but there was no room in the company for another one during the 4 years I worked there. I then had to quit working due to severe chronic migraines. I definitely miss being an accountant sometimes because I loved my job. Best wishes and I enjoy watching your videos!

I've had 6 internship interviews for an accounting position this summer and in every single one of them, theyve asked me why I chose accounting. And I always say: this is going to sound funny to you... but I was inspired because of Sara Marie. And I go on and talk about you and your channel and all your accomplishments in about 2 mins.

I work for a mid-size property and casualty insurance company in their corporate accounting department as an entry level accounting technician. When I graduate with my bachelors in accounting in December, I’m going to be promoted to an accountant. I’ve worked there for 3.5 years and I’ve been told not to do the CPA or get my MBA because our company doesn’t require it for promotions. Not only that, they don’t help you financially. They will only help with tuition reimbursement for undergrad degrees. This is a major disappointment to me as I really want to be a CPA. 😔
I would still become a CPA! Unless you plan on staying at that job for the rest of your life

Maybe you can keep those repeated questions that have been ask in a website (like a Frequently Ask Question - FAQ website with link) so that they could refer to website and you could direct them to that link

My query is what is your opinion on the usefulness of the CMA (certified management accountant) accounting designation for people in private accounting because I have often read that it is considered more relevant than the CPA for private accounting jobs. I currently work in the private industry. They require the accounting manager and up to have a CPA, but the current accounting manager does not. 🙃
I’m still working to get my CPA (which I will get reimbursed for once I pass 🙌🏾) but there’s no telling what the future holds and if I’ll be at this company until I retire.

Hi Sara! I hope all is well I also work at an insurance company. I have my bachelors degree in communications so I am not in our accounting department however my company does pay for a majority of higher education. I was hoping to get a more direct scope for my masters and was leaning to accounting or finance since math was always my favorite. I was wondering if you had any advice on going into one of those masters with a different bachelors degree and if you think it would be possible to move into the accounting department in my current company or if I would have to leave because I really do love the company. Thank you!

Watching your video, I remember my job as a general accountant when I lived in Vietnam. I have moved to America for 4 months, I really want to work as an accountant here , but it’s difficult for me to pursue it, I don’t know how to begin !!! Feel so sad!!!
I’m Vietnamese too and I understand how difficult it is to start a new journey in a foreign country. It’s challenging but it’s worth it! Don’t give up. Difficulties will just make you stronger and stronger. Stay positive. Continue to pursue your career as an accountant in America. One day, you will be proud of yourself for overcoming all challenges. You can do it!

Hi Sara, I love your videos and have found them very interesting. I am thinking of going back to get my accounting degree when my son goes to pre k in a year. However, I will be 39 next month and have been told that it's kind of late to be trying to get a degree in accounting because I would be about 44 when I graduate and would have problems finding employment. I would like to know how you feel about this or maybe seen this happen in accounting. Also would it even be worth it at my age? Would really appreciate your opinion.

I was thinking the same thing! Although I’m already in junior in college. I’ve decided to switch majors. I think you should just go for it.
I am a senior in accounting school and there are actually quite a few people in my classes who are over 40. I wouldn’t let that stop you. I’ll be 36 when I graduate. I had babies and was a stay at home mom for several years and then went back to school.

Not in my experience! Having an internship and contacts from accounting clubs definitely helps!
How long did it take you to go from regular accountant to senior accountant? Also, what are the major differences in responsibilities and pay?

I work from home one day a week. The type of work I do is a lot easier to do in the office with double monitors!
Would it be hard to get a CPA as a bachelors in finance major?
Many people I know double majored in both accounting and finance and took the cpa exam. I think accounting classes are necessary to both pass and get the qualifications needed to test.
Thank you! Currently on the track for a finance degree and many professors say accounting is an option for finance major. I just don’t know if I want to invest my bachelors in one specific career like accounting, since finance is very broad. But, I’ll see when I take my accounting class.
All CPAs are accountants but not all accountants are CPAs. If you are in NYC, CPA and master's degree are not uncommon for young accountants. So, non-CPA applicants have a very slim chance to secure accounting jobs there.

I went the tax route for 10+ career. I really enjoy tax so much I got Masters in Taxation. Are you able to work from home? You are so glowing.

Is accounting a good job for someone who likes math?
Accounting consists of very basic mathematics like substraction addiction etc but if you love maths i recommend it to you though you don't really need high mathematical aptitudes in accounting.
