I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since. The genre, along with artists like Michael Jackson, Aaliyah, Britney Spears, etc. then motivated me into becoming a hip-hop/pop dancer, which was a very active lifestyle for me literally throughout my whole 20s. (XTRA DANCE 411- I danced for, trained, and performed with 4 different dance teams. My first and main dance team who started my "dance life" was with Marvelous Motion (who later became IaMmE, America's Best Dance Crew Season 6 Champions). A lot of my dance training came from Di "Moon" Zhang, Brandon "747" Harrell, Emilio Dosal, SOREAL, and from attending many dance classes in Houston and L.A. (from amazing local talent to widely-known talents such as Parris Goebel, Keone Madrid, Kyle Hanagami, Lando Wilkins, Mister Wiggles, Rino Nakasone)
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music and dance around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis, seizures, and a heart murmur. I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with Kpop or dance. Luckily, I'm in remission now. That doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups if I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible. I am also not capable of being an active dancer like I used to be due to my chronic illnesses, but I’m still a dancer in my mind, heart, and soul.
ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon and also using what I’ve learned from my dance years to give credit where it’s due!

I live by what Jackson said when i first found them. “Please love all GOT7” you can not have a bias. You can and will trying but they will all via for your attention. they are all amazing. In fact there is an awesome guide i think is called the ultimate guide. Its older now, but still the best one.

"If you do" and "You calling my name" are a MUST WATCH, both the MVs as well as the dance practices, there are many others, but these two for me is their best, you actually should watch ALL of their MVs, but start with those two If you wanna stan them

this was based in a romeo and juliet concept, that's why the mv is so artistic
Got7 is an extremely talented group and their choreographies demonstrate this, I believe you will enjoy this journey!!!!! Anyway, talking about the music, Not By the Moon is inspired by Romeo and Julliet and has the story told in the Mv and throughout the album, it's a recommendation!!!!

So excited for your GOT7 journey! I'm a newer Ahgase and I realised that their dance practices are truly PRACTICES. They may not be the cleanest when you compare them to other (moreso newer) groups but I still love and enjoy them nonetheless. Can't wait for more!
Also, the one your eyes kept drifting to is JayB, the leader of the group. He goes HARD on dance practices, ESPECIALLY in the Lullaby dance practice!

HIM is JAY B, girl! Aka GOT7's leader, my ult bias, and everyone's bias wrecker! Yes, he's an amazing performer! The best performer in the group imo, because he always goes 110% - ahgases (GOT7's fandom) like to tease him for being 'extra'! Haha. The one that stuck out for you in the DP was JayB, he is a great performer and he gives everything in his performance everytime like you can literally watch any live stage and you will notice. He moves different from others because he goes all out and he was a former Bboy. Bambam is also a great dancer you maybe know that already.
The main dancer is the guy in orange shirt, his name is Yugyeom (you+gyom), he is a beast when he wants to.
Hope you can enjoy this group, and check out their stages too😊 also just a small info, they have japanese releases as well. Their dance for those were also great.
GOT7 is the ace of kpop I’m telling you.. you’ll see during your journey their versatility and the way they’re ALL able to shine either as a group or solo.
One thing to know about GOT7 their actual style lies in their b songs. Most of the title tracks were forced on them and made by the label ( one of the reasons they left) since their style is much more rnb in reality the label always tried to put them through the heavy pop saying to them that they were not enough Kpop) so definitely check out the b sides during your journey, they have a lot of visuals for it.
Not by the moon is from the DYE album that revolves around the Romeo and Juliet them. Hence the costumes, poison, death etc. Some of the DYE b sides songs are my favorites they put out.
Also another FYI as I was saying and you’ll see they’re very versatile, the rap line can actually also sing ( that’s why you get Jackson singing here) and the singer line can also rap !
As for the vocal line they’re actually one of the strongest in Kpop and GOT7 are known to be one of the best live performancers as they won awards for it. Because they’re one of the few groups never using backtracks and playback only the instrumental and they even do the ad libs live.
As for their style you hit the nail on the toe, they indeed have that throwback style, mostly rnb mixed with other sounds and they target a more older audience than usual groups, they don’t go for the viral type of stuff as their audience is mostly adults. As for their choreos they’re often very theatratical that’s their thing. You’ll also learn that all the members are actually actually dancers, all of them except Youngjae got recruited for their dancing but even Youngjae turned out to be a good dancer so most of their choreos rotate and there’s never people in hiding in the back in GOT7 either for choreos and singing. They also often choreographes some of their songs.
Jayb was a dancer and bboy even before GOT7
Yugyeom also was a pro dancer before, he is specialized in house dance, krump and hip hop. ( he also known as one of the best dancers in Kpop) and won hit the stage which is a show where idols are competing.
Mark and Jackson are really good on martial arts so they often do flips and such, Jackson worked a lot with the KINJAZ especially for his solos. And Jackson actually won a dance TV show in China ( hot blood dance crew) and street dance China
Bam bam was in a dance crew since childhood ( actually with Lisa from Blackpink) and Lia Kim ( creator of 1million dance company and one of the best dancers in Korea) named him as his favorite idol dancer for his musicality. YG himself ( ceo of YG entertainment) praised Bam Bam during the time they were training during a show that was broadcasting, JYP didn’t want to debut him yet because he was young but after YG’s comment he debuted him right away.
And the rest of the members are just as good.
Their songs are rather slow so they don’t 100 % showcase what they can do but there’s some dance compilations showing why they’re one of the best goups and have one of the best musicality.
Another FYI all the members writes, compose and produces and sometimes choreographes. ( and bam bam even edited some of their videos)
Thina, you simping over Mark Tuan in the MV is such a mood. This was the first Got7 song I listened to (it’s my favorite title) and Mark popped for me too. No surprise he’s my bias! This song was one of my favorites of 2020 and Dye is stunning from start to end!
The one who caught your eye in the dance practice is JB (now goes by JayB). He’s the leader of the group and a babe in all the ways.

I love that JAY B’s (in purple) vocals got your attention like that 😂 I consider him a “concert vocalist” bc his vocals are a powerhouse in live performances/stages. You know that mic is ON. lol He just released his EP too. Actually as of yesterday, all members have released solo singles and albums/EPs this year.

One of the reasons I love GOT7 so much is because every member has a very distinct voice. Once you learn their voices, they are so easy to pick out.

I love it when people discover how good GOT7 are - I was lucky enough to see them live & they were awesome. As some people have said, it is definitely worth checking out their bsides & also their reality shows like Hard Carry because they are absolutely hilarious.

Wow, I didn't know you hadn't seen Got7, I know that feeling of when you find a group and ask yourself where was I? Why didn't I do this sooner? Each member has released either singles or an album by now and each has it's own flavor. Can't wait to see what else they have instore for us.
Must watch and listen to Lullaby, Hard Carry, If You Do, Last Piece and Eclipse. Those are their hardest dances and You Calling My Name is also an artistic kind of dance and such a bop. Breath and Just Right are also fun to watch

Got7 music is always amazing and interms of musical it applies to all JYPE artist as what you seen in their dance. They didn't dance intensely but they dance according to thier music and that is so genius.
