Not a matter of getting rich. It's a matter of knowing that if you lose your job for whatever reason, you won't have to panic about getting a new one. If I lose my job, I have enough to cover me for 3-4 years. The goal is 25 years.

I ABSOLUTELY love the caveat you gave at the beginning that was a "trigger warning" I think it's much better to give that up front and then speak openly and honestly is a great way to allow us to engage in a real discussion and not worry TOO much about hurting someone else.

I was really hopeful of my investments this year, but all my plans have been disoriented, I've been studying the market crashes and I realized some investors made millions from the recent 2008 recession and I was wondering if such success rate could be achieved in this present market. and the Federal Reserve taking a more hawkish approach to interest rates and bond purchase tapering, a correction is underway
Yes, if you go long against the market you'd make such success.
i buy quality firms, anticipate to hold them regardless of what happens, pay up but not too much, keep track, sell only when necessary, and be ready to course correct. also ignore the forecasts and market views which are at best entertaining but completely useless. I invest in actively managed funds, ETF’s, and trusts and have been so pleased with the returns. Like you I also invest in a small amount of individual stocks for fun/entertainment too!

I don't recommend active funds in mature markets, since the market is always getting up.
The hardest part by far is making yourself take the first steps. I bitterly regret leaving it so long. Once you are up and running though it's easy and quietly motivating.

If your investing experience is less than 10 years start with 5-6 portfolio. Don't bet big on any single company, learn the process first. Initial diversification is not bad, it really worked for me during my early years. Remember that protection of capital is a must. Good luck.
Very true. Also new investors should study the market. Market crashes are an opportune time to protect capital in the sense that one can gain years of growth from the bottom of a crash in a matter of months. this last crash provided over a decade of growth in majority of stock. Always be ready to jump at these opportunities.>

Ali,
I really loved the way you've categorized your portfolio of youtube videos, skillshare classes, etc. as an asset class of "digital assets". When most people think of digital assets, CryptoPunk NFTs or Bored Apes probably come to mind, but to expand that definition to include things like podcasts, videos, and other "assets" you've created and which act so much like digital amalgams of traditional assets (provides you monthly cash flow like a bond or real estate, but with a variable return based on profitability like an equity (since you own the video yourself) is novel and ingenious. That idea alone has really expanded my understanding of what an "asset" can be in today's day & age.
