In the original airing the opening was "On the count of 3 you will forget Futurama was cancelled by idiots and then brought back by even bigger idiots"
To understand why it was canceled, just look at how the studio also told them they shouldn't make any episodes where the crew isn't on Earth, because "viewers don't want space in a scifi comedy, they want to see Earth stories they can relate to". Basically studio executives are idiots and ruin or cancel every show they own.
Soooo...they got turned into a fine powder for that?

At this point in time Fox had a bunch of Executives that were more concerned with proving they had power, then earning money. They canceled several well performing shows for ones that severely underperformed in the same time slots, including Dark Angel, Futurama, and Family Guy.
Also Firefly. It may not have been huge, but it was well loved.
You know cancelling Futurama back in 2003 was a bad decision when even The Simpsons in the episode "Fraudcast News" questions why Futurama was cancelled at the time.
@nurse0857 I am hard pressed to have sympathy for Firefly. The politics that got them on the air caused the cancelation of Dark Angel for the time slot. Dark Angel had the biggest viewership on Saturday nights with 3 seasons under their belts, Firefly dropped the viewership by 2 3rds in their 1 and only season.
The episodes were completely repetitive. Crew member of the week remembers doing something bad in the past, doesn't trust anyone, gets wounded, has to rely on the rest of the crew, everyone pulls together and wins.
Over and over - ad nauseum.

Fox claimed they cancelled Futurama due to low ratings. The truth is that Fox never liked the show and only wanted The Simpsons (despite its continued declining quality) so they sabotaged Futurama by constantly changing its time slot so no one knew when new episodes were on
Is that right? Growing up I just thought I constantly forgot when new episodes ran. What a bunch of dipshits
or airing it at 7:30 pm on a Sunday before the Simpsons at 8pm, and then skipping Futurama a lot when the 4:30pm NFL football game ran late. Not to mention the NFL postgame show no one cares about.
Futurama is, and always will be, way better than The Simpsons.

Same. It didn't have the same feel as the initial run for sure.
I stopped watching Futurama after the “In-a-gadda-da-Leela.” episode. It was a real put off for me.
@jadepixie2719 Yeah for me it was the episode with "Susan boil" and the cat meme episode that turned me off. It felt more like plots you'd see from something like family guy. I'll still come back to a couple episodes like the late Philip j fry, but for the most part I'll skip the cartoon network run of the show.
