I Love 491, I hope I visit it sometime if ever get too. It’s paint looks just like when it pulled Freight from Alamosa to Durango back in 50’s.

Yes, she and 346 are still operational, a new steam locomotive is getting restored to operate alongside them pretty soon.

Denver & Rio Grande Western 491 is a Narrow Gauge 2-8-2 “Mikado” Type class K-37 locomotive, built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1902. Originally as a Standard Gauge 2-8-0, then it was rebuilt into a Narrow Gauge K-37 class along with nine other Consolidations. After being rebuilt, 491 pulled trains through out the D&RGW system. Until being retired and donated to the Colorado Railroad Museum since 1985. In late 2013 a restoration had began to return the locomotive to operation again. In August 2014, the locomotive was steamed up for it’s run at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Today, 491 is in operation at the Colorado Railroad Museum with RGS Galloping Goose #7, Rio Grande Southern 20, and D&RGW 346 as one of the two K-37’s in operation.

What a waste of a good operational loco, it should be running on the C&TS or D&S along with the genuine coaches.
