  • @richardpcrowe

    I shoot with both full frame (A7iii) and crop sensor (A6600) Sony mirrorless cameras and my go-to telephoto lens is the Sony 70-350mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS. Although this is a crop sensor lens, I have no problems with that since I always used my Canon 100-400mm Mark-ii lens on my crop sensor Canon 7D Mark-ii camera and was very happy with the results.
    Although both cameras have IBIS, the combination of IBIS and OSS or the Sony lens is a very handy combination since the lens has a relatively slow aperture range. However, if the Tamron lens had been available at the time that I purchased my Sony 70-350, I would seriously have considered that option because o the considerably lower price.
    I wish that Tamron would come up with a good 1.4x or even 2x teleconverter for their 70-180mm f/2.8 lens...

    I'm still somewhat confused about the lack of tele on the sony. Okey, there's tele lenses but even my old canon 70-300 does 300mm at 5.6. And why don't we have the sigma 50-100 1.8 for sony E APS-C yet??? I notice I often fall short with the 200mm 2.8, where is my 300mm 3.5????

    I actually took a leap on this lense and pre-ordered it when I saw it coming out. I have to agree, ita not nearly as premium as my Sigma 24-70mm Art lense, compared to that lense the Tamron feels like a toy. Outside of that I think its spot on, especially with it being $500. I wonder, how does the quality compare to the Nikon AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR It is the FX version of their 70-300 and is cheaper than the tamron lens while offering OIS. While it is for a different camera, it would be interesting compare, especially since Nikon uses Sony image sensors anyway. The only reason why I am interested in such a comparison is one of pricing, and how they justify the price, especially if they ever make an F-mount version.

      The 55-210 is a good lens, but not fantastic. The OSS in the 55-210 is great if your camera doesn’t have IBIS. It is also WAY smaller and cheaper. It’s worth trying the 55-210 first to see if a telephoto zoom lens is what you are looking for.

      It will on the long end, under certain conditions, for example if you're trying to focus manually. The stabilisation does help in framing up your shots too.

    Shouldn't it be 105-450mm on an aps-c camera? So you actually get more reach than the sony 70-350mm?

    • @saifaldin_
      @saifaldin_ Před 3 lety

      The Sony 70-350 has more reach. It's 105-525mm eq on aps-c bodies. The name of the lenses denote physical focal length. It is the body that change the FOV. So an APS-C body will always crop.

    This lens is very tempting for landscape photography 🤔
    I've heard that the OSS is something you want to turn off when you want to shoot with a slow shutter speed. Plus if you want to switch to full frame later, this might be the best choice possible.

      how would that work though? shooting handheld wouldnt a slow shutter and OSS off give blur or something?

      The comparison I was interested in was the 70-300 Sony vs Tamron on a full frame camera with ibis. The ibis will put the Tamron on a somewhat level playing field. Just curious as the Tamron is half the price of the Sony.
