    One other way is spray wd40 and vinegar inside the screw hole and around the handle to get inside best as possible let it sit for 10 minutes then just wiggle and bend back and forth and eventually will come off or use a small crow bar to get some lift on it

      Yes, good idea. Logistically it can be done by wrapping the entire assembly in a plastic storage bag filled with white vinegar. I hope you are able to get this to work, but I couldn't.
      Funny story: After I hacksawed it off I put the handle and what was left of the stalk into hot white vinegar and left it overnight. (I wanted to preserve the handle.) The sucker still wouldn't budge even using my two biggest plyers.

    Prior to re-setting new, and-or hexigon set sqrew, use plumbers water proof grease with threads hex-sqrew. Any future nessesary removal, towards replacing cartridge, straight forward for most part. Same applies towards new cartridges, they come semi-lubricated, add plumber water proof grease, to any existing o-rings on cartridge itself, also id/inside diameter within tub/shower valve, cartridge very easy to remove future applications. Same scenario towards any sewer clean-out threaded caps, and-or kitchen/bathroom lavatory clean-out threaded caps. Seconds to remove, instead within struggling for hours. 30-seconds labor.

    My Pfrister F-034-4SL one handle kitchen faucet is over 15 years old. Hard to remove the handle. I tried WD-40 first and failed. Then tried lime-away for 6 hours (sprayed twice), failed again. Then WD-40 again twice. I twisted by hand left and right 30+ times (within 5 mins) to weak the plastic stem and finally broke it. Then I drilled and cleaned the plastic stem left in the handle. Finally I filed the inner surface of square stem the handle smooth enough to fit the stem of the cartridge.

    I was going to saw off the handle. Frustrated. As a last resort I wrapped a quart plastic bag over the whole thing and wrapped a rubber band on the opened end. Then I tightly taped the end over the band to make sure it doesn't leak. I grabbed a flavor injector and made a small hole on the top of the bag and filled it with distilled white vinegar until the handle was submerged completely in vinegar. Waited a hour and it came of with a slight tug. Make sure its completely submerged so the vinegar goes inside the handle.

    You need to used small screw to remove all the dust inside the hex nut and the Allen wrench can go deeper inside the hex nut then move back and forth slowly then remove it . I just did it yesterday. The hex nut is not easy to worn out

    Do you still have the part # for the handle itself? This is the exact one I have that needs replacement. BTW, I drilled out the set screw, but it still wouldn't come off. So much corrosion inside the handle that the cartridge stem just broke off. I did hacksaw the bonnet nut due to corrosion, but now I have to wait for a week for a new one to be delivered. In order to get the water back on in the meantime, I ended up capping both the tub and shower faucets and the main line that the cartridge is housed in. Looks like our family of 6 will be using 1 shower for a while.

    Worst 2 hours of my life : ) WD40, CLR, Vinegar, Drill, no dice. Just get an $8 hacksaw from Home Depot / Rona. It did take about 20 minutes to hacksaw it out with a 5 minute break in between, and I had to hold the handle with SAFTEY GLOVES and GOGGLES while hacksawing it to prevent the plumbing behind the wall from rattling and possibly breaking due to my rage. Didn't have to much problem with unscrewing the brass ring using large pliers turning counter-clockwise gently. But the cartridge was another pain in the ass to take out, so I use the same pliers to pull it out with a good amount of force, but trying not to clamp the pliers too tight to prevent snapping my only remaining grip on the cartridge. This video was the most useful -> Thanks for taking one for the team!!!. Just use a hacksaw, but be careful with your hands and eye protection.

One suggestion - rather than use WD40, use something like silicon grease or automotive anti-seize. I've replaced my handles in a rental 3 times after greasing the parts and never had any trouble getting the parts loose. I used a angle grinder to take my handle off since the hex nut was corroded from hard water. Unfortunately my brass ring was also corroded and wouldn't budge with a strap wrench or a channel lock. So I had to use my Dremel and a metal cutting tip to remove the ring. I too slightly damaged my threads in two places getting it off. I am waiting for the plumbing store to open to get a replacement ring to see if I am going to be able to finish the repair myself or have to have a plumber open up my wall and replace the whole valve. Ugh

    • @bulletpeople
      @bulletpeople  Před 7 lety +1

      Hopefully if you wrap the threads with a lot of teflon tape it won't leak with the new bonnet nut. I cut pretty deep in the threads and it doesn't leak.
      Do you have any idea how much a plumber would charge for this? For me it came to $63.22 in parts from Amazon. I learned later Delta would have sent me the $32.99 faucet cartridge for free because they are guaranteed for as long as you own the home it was installed in. (See www.deltafaucet.com/service-parts/warranty.)

    This makes me feel better because the allen screw that held on my new faucet handle stripped out and now it's stuck and I'm trying to drill a hole in it. I'm going to try the hacksaw. I bought these Danco bath/show trim replacements at Home Depot and both of them were nightmarishly painful to deal with.

      Anti sieze should used before you have trouble,,it will not help after you get in the trouble..
      You can get Anti sieze from auto parts store.
