Day 6: Estella to Los Arcos
On this day of the Camino de Santiago Frances we continue our walk where we enjoy the landscapes of the barley and wheat fields, with their green and yellow tones. This time the areas are more crowded again.
Before leaving Estella we walked from our hostel through a few streets and had a quick breakfast.
After a brief walk and among some cultivated fields we arrive at the small town of Ayegui, where we find the curious Ayegui forge, where its craftsman Jesús Angel Alcoz reproduces his own pieces of the Camino de Santiago on hot iron.
We continued our walk and in just a few minutes we were able to reach one of the great iconic places of the entire Camino, the famous Bodegas Irache and its wine fountain where, under a carving of Santiago, there are two taps, one for water. and the other came. After freshening up as tradition dictates and visiting the wine museum, we continued to the Irache Monastery, a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque whose cloister we were able to visit.
We continue for several kilometers through monotonous cultivated fields and roads and we see in the distance the castle of San Esteban de Deyo, also called Castillo de Monjardín, which is located at the top of Villamayor, on Mount Monjardín, until we finally enter the final stretch to Los Arcos, where we were able to rest and enjoy the heritage of the Church of Santa María de Los Arcos, one of the most important in Navarra.
Today's objective was to reach the region of Irache and its Fuente del Vino, as well as the Monastery of Irache and visit the beautiful Church of Santa María de Los Arcos.
This day was long and challenging, both the heat and the sun were intense.
In general, we found that this stage between Estella and Los Arcos was quite long and monotonous, we recommend not starting without a hat or sunscreen.
