Also, Abby lost everything because she saved her enemy, she does this twice. Meanwhile abby losing the wlfs was her decision cause she chose to help lev and yara knowing that wlfs and scars are enemies. Her friends dying was the consenquence of her seeking revenge and dragging them into it. The line where she said "We let you live and you wasted it" was one her dumbest moments cuz of the fact that she expected ellie to not seek revenge as well. I mean if she can seek it what makes her think that ellie won't? most of what happens to her in this game are her own doing.

I think this game was too ambitious for its own good. The separate narratives converging and the shifting of perspectives were both interesting ideas but their execution was lacking. It would have been better if the story was told chronologically, alternating between Ellie and Abby, instead of reaching the climax then rewinding three days.
I get that we were supposed to get the gratification from revenge and then realize that the cost was greater than the fulfilment, but I never felt bad for killing Abby's friends because I didn't get to know them first. I also found it impossible to connect with Abby's friends during her section because I already knew they were dead. The only death that impacted me at all was Manny's, and that's no coincidence because we didn't see him die hours ahead of time.
Also, I know they were trying to draws parallels between Joel/Ellie and Abby/Lev but I just didn't buy it. Joel and Ellie bonded over an entire year during a trip across the U.S. and it took them a while to even be open to caring for each other. Abby hangs out with Lev for less than 3 days, abandons the WLF that helped her survive for years, and is saying stuff like, "You're my people!" That just wasn't believable and didn't really work in my opinion.
This franchise is a prime example of "less is more." Part 1's story is not nearly as complex as Part 2's. There was too much to remember/care about in the sequel. The original (and Left Behind) were tighter, more focused stories that were much easier to connect with.
All that said, the leaks spoiled some of this story for me before launch. I still played it twice to experience it for myself in context. I'll never know how I would have felt about this game if I went in completely blind. I'm not sure if I would have liked it more or less than I do now. That's my take on the story but everything else in this game is fantastic, so I can't give this game too low a score either. However, since the main selling point of this game is the narrative, I can't give it a very high score either. I couldn't agree more with 55%.

    Imagine this.
The game starts of with you as a
Abby, the story is framed as a revenge story of finding who killed her family or whatever, just some basic plot that is not uncommon to games. Joel and Ellie aren't mentioned at all. For the first section, all of the gameplay is with Abby. The Last of Us 2 is framed as a story completely different and independent from the first game, fooling the player the Last of Us is more of anthology series on survivors in the post-apocalypse rather than one whole story. You learn more about Abby, and become more attached to her character and past, as you have to Joel and Ellie.
You play through like 5 hours of normal exploring, piecing together clues and following a trail of this mystery man who killed your family. Then, you come across Joel all of a sudden in the wilderness, work together to survive a horde. Hopefully making you think "Pretty cool that they did a cameo for Joel from the last game" but think nothing more of it.
Then he introduces himself, and the story plays out as it did in this game, with both protagonists killing each others friends and family slowly, hurting characters you've built relationships with and cared about the whole game(s).
I think that framing provides a more gripping story about revenge and actually teaches the lesson of it clearly, seeing as you may have actually cared about the the characters before they died. And this way, you actually empathize with Abby more, rather than just hating her outright from the get-go.

Yeah, that thing you just did?
We call that a second draft, something that takes the first draft and fixes quite a few mistakes and reworks things so it's viable. You're not the first one to do this and you're not gonna be the last, because this was never given that treatment before they started charging money for it.
TLOU2 was a rough draft presented as a final product and it shows, doesn't it?

    • @Solidsnaik
      @Solidsnaik Před rokem +1

So if they pulled an MGS2 and the story was more predictable then people would be less mad? I really don’t think so. The way it was structured seemed deliberately designed to provoke the most visceral emotion.
What you call “gripping” might’ve seemed more cliche and harder to pace than what Naughty Dog was going for.
I think we all would know Joel was the one Abby was looking for, so there’s no point drawing that out for 5 hours. I really don’t see that reveal carrying much weight at all just by trying to pretend that her story was unrelated to the first game.
If we empathize with Abby from the beginning, her redemption arc would be much more predictable and Ellie’s choice at the end would be much more obviously spelled out as the “correct” one.
I don’t think anyone who wasn’t spoiled could’ve seen any of the events coming. I’m so glad they didn’t go the pandering route with just another Joel and Ellie adventure with a touch of revenge for added drama.
I’m glad this game is inspiring so many people to see if they could take a crack at laying out a better story. Its interesting its like seeing the bargaining phase if grief play out in the comments section.

@@Solidsnaik This wasn't the well thought out masterpiece you think it is. TLOU2's basis is in a rejected TLOU1 plot, now commonly known as the Tess Hunts Joel plot, that was thrown out by then-director Bruce Straley.
Like any other entitled artist who thinks they are incapable of anything less than perfection, instead of accepting that it didn't work and letting it die, Neil Druckmann reworked that rejected plot into a new game, without care to address the issues of *why* it was rejected and thus creating new issues along the way. Worse yet is that his attempt at ruining the characters of Ellie and Joel was just an attempt to totally torch the franchise out of childish spite because, despite rejecting his plot, the original game succeeded overwhelmingly, showing they were *right* to reject it.
It's not intentionally going for the emotions you're thinking of: The writer IS just that bad. *EDITED FOR CLARIFICATION AND EXTRA INFO, CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR RDR AND RDR2*
RDR 1 and 2 did "revenge is wrong" better. Arthur Morgan(RDR2 main protagonist) told John Marston to "ride away and never look back". In other words, to find a new life and to not return to the past, a past of trouble, stress, and violence. He unfortunately decides to find and kill Micah, after he destroyed the Van Der Linde gang and killed. Killing Micah led Edgar Ross to John Marston which would result in all the shit in RDR and eventually Marston's death at the hands of the government. He could've stayed out of criminal business and just taken care of the ranch with Abigail and Jack, and done bounties with Sadie Adler or something. Instead he ends up with his family taken by the government and hunting down his old gang members. And for what? The satisfaction of killing Micah Bell? I hate Micah but he could've just waited for him to get hypothermia up in the mountains or just ignored him. The only good thing that comes from this revenge is Dutch Van Der Linde leaving John a good amount of money. Jack Marston, John's son, hunts down Edgar Ross, the Detective Agent who manipulated and betrayed John, and kills him, which is exactly what John did not want. He is now very likely a wanted man, he was in the area and looking for Ross, and a few people are told about this by Jack himself. Hopefully Jack is able to escape the consequences. A GTA Easter egg implies that he did, but that's an entirely different universe. Another way it's done very well is that it's not shoved down our throats. It's a present theme but it isn't really always hovering above us.

Arthur told John to run away and never look back, John blinded by revenge did the opposite by killing Micah, which led Ross to finding out the Marston is still active, Ross blackmailed John, betrayed him, killed him, and in the end, Jack Marston, who both John and Arthur DIED so they could prevent Jack from becoming like them, became like them. It's really tragic when you think about it.

One thing I've realized this game does awfully but the first game does well is handling your companions. Joel and Ellie are basically at each other's throats throughout most of the first game, they didn't want to be around each other longer than they needed to, mainly Joel pushing Ellie away, but they slowly form a bond with moments showing them coming around to one another. In this game, everyone's just buddy buddy from the start, Dina and Ellie get along great, Abby and these people she just met, like Oscar just flat out saying "I like you Abby". This doesn't automatically make for a good friendship, people just praising each other and being playful nonstop. Relationships that require work just have such better pay offs than the ones that are fine from the start.

In The Last Of Us Part II, there is an interrogation within the interrogation, there is even an interrogation within it. The sentence "revenge is bad" is the simplest and most inadequate expression of everything... There are many different terms and different themes in The Last Of Us Part II. You and people like you haven't progressed and thought deeply about questioning. In fact, it's not exactly objective to say this. What needs to be said is that this story was told using the "mirror technique" in literature, so that conscious gaps and evaluations in the story were left to the person who experienced it. For this reason, everyone decides and evaluates according to their own lifestyle, feelings, ideas and ideology...
Interrogative sentences such as "how did you like this" or "how did you dislike this" are extremely silly and illogical. Or to say "This story is simple" is too baseless and absurd.
For me, this story is an extremely deep, questioning, thought-provoking and unique experience.
Conscience is a personality trait in which a person measures what he/she does or will do about his/her intentions or behaviors based on his/her own moral values. Although some people use the term "public conscience" today, there is no such concept in religious and mystical fields, and the concept of conscience has always been used in the sense of individual conscience in these areas. According to philosophy, conscience, which stimulates one's inner peace or inner distress, is not a concept, but a person's ability. The metaphysical understanding in philosophy claims that this ability is innate, while the secular understanding claims that it is the result of man's manners and knowledge determined by the social conditions he is in. According to Friedrich Nietzsche, conscience is a concept that developed depending on the morality of debt and was invented for the purpose of "raising an animal that can promise".
To sum it up, Abby has a conscience and an effort to be good. This effort isn't just because of what he did to Joel. Because Abby and all humans are too inclined to resort to the act of killing with their peaked momento mori instinct. To Abby, Joel is just like any other person she's killed. What is different for Abby about Joel is that this act of killing by Abby herself was not done with momento mori instinct, and Joel is an irreversible monster who killed Abby's father. So Abby dehumanizes someone she doesn't like, as everyone does.
In short, Abby feels guilty about her past and tries to be good because of her past. Abby's effort to be kind of baptized isn't just about Joel. Abby's baptism effort is all about her past...
Flashbacks determine the character's inner-world and the character purpose and the character motivation. In this linear story, flashbacks progress like a mole from the bottom of this story to the finale, creating an abstract, psychological, inner-worldly and philosophical sub-text/sub-narrative, and this sub-text/sub-narrative realistically organicizes and naturalizes the character logics. Thus, this sub-text/sub-narrative humanizes all the characters.
So flashbacks tell an additional-story that sheds light on the past and creates the inner-world of the characters, and this additional-story is enormous.
Also, Mel isn't the kind of person who cares about her pregnancy or her baby. Mel has a headstrong and maverick character. Mel is not a person with maternal feelings. And I'm not sure, but Mel is just a self-centered person.
All that's left of what you said is just some kind of cheap attempt to find water in the desert, and what you're saying doesn't even make sense.
If you can make a firm and unbreakable judgment without reading what I say, if you describe me as a bigoted defender, and if you have the right to criticize me even though there is not a single argument in what you say, then I can say how useless, illogical, meaningless and empty you are. And it's okay for me to say that! I am not making a defense. I'm just stating my own thoughts and feelings. Defense is not without reason, it is made against an action. This defensive action is the second action, the first action is the offensive.
You call me a defender because you're on the offensive and you personify things! But you are wrong. No matter how much you attack, it's none of my business, my goal is to have original, strong ideas and feelings! Unfortunately you cannot do this. Don't comment or bother me again. You are disrespecting me for not reading my comment and you are absolutely wrong!
To measure the value of an idea, you need to be tolerant of other ideas, other points of view, other feelings and differences. And you also have to produce creativity and difference. I justified what I said and laid a foundation for everything I said. If you characterize my expression as worthless, I'm just saying how useless and empty you are.
the destructive and toxic people on social media always see themselves as the smart or final judge and they have no respect for anyone.
That's why I say "you don't know a thing about ideas and differences".
You don't understand ideas and differences, you don't know ideas and differences, you don't generate idea and difference...
You... ehhh never mind! It's up to you...
      Enough is enough!
Don't comment me, don't bother me...
      .
      .
      .
      .
There is no need to condition yourself to a monotonous discussion when faced with different ideas. Sometimes being quiet is also important.

The Last Of Us Part II is the most unique, philosophic and innovative masterpiece. The Last Of Us Part II is about dehumanized, humanized, othering, tribalism, utilitarianism, dystopia of Leviathan the book, secular humanizm, meta-ethics, naturalism, memento mori, empathy, conscience, remorse, justice concept, forgiveness, rebirth, grudge, hatred, inner-world of psychology and moral relativism. That's why The Last Of Us Part II is perfect, unique, artistically innovative and emotional roller coaster masterpiece🤍🖤
Both protagonists are like real human. They have logical and emotional intelligence, behavior and purpose. The innovative protagonists are told with an understanding of naturalism and human instinct. And in this post-apocalyptic universe, they act with the ultimate memento mori instinct. There is always violence in everything. There is no extra or exaggerated violence in The Last Of Us Part II. The Last Of Us Part II described the violence in everything clearly and realistically with the understanding of naturalism. While this violence is entertainment in other games, it is a philosophical concept that needs to be pondered in The Last Of Us Part II. Because the gameplay in The Last Of Us Part II provides a brainstorming about both the humanity of the people killed and the survivors, and the humane and emotional behaviors and selves of all the characters...
Depression exists in the inner world of these characters, and we experience this personal depression firsthand. This depression is tremendous and impeccably handled in terms of character psychology and character portrayal. This depression is very well written.
There are many causes: Tribalism, the momento mori instinct, the dark side of bonding with love, the disappearance of official authority and therefore the formation of natural laws (the dystopia of the Leviathan book), the ancestral survival instincts of humans, the dark side of dehumanized, othering, utilitarian philosophy, primitive blood feuds...
Violence and destruction are always inside people. Humans are beings who are ready to forget and do anything to keep themselves alive. Even today, there is extraordinary destruction, hatred and indifference. The fact that this does not grow is the official constitutions that the states have put. This subject is again of interest to Thomas Hobbes because he talks about it in his book Leviathan...
"Man is a wolf to man."
      Thomas Hobbes
This saying proves that there is a great suppressed violence and destruction in people.
That's why The Last Of Us Part II blends naturalism and human nature so well.
There is no case of creating realism with violence, nor is there a case of creating shock value with violence.
The scriptwriter's aim is certainly not to break expectations and be controversial! The author does not defend or explain sentences such as violence is bad, revenge is not good, people use violence or revenge creates an inextricable cycle. The author reveals themes and ideologies that are increasingly prominent in human beings in a post-apocalyptic universe, in a universe where official authority and official laws disappear and the laws of nature prevail, criticizes them and teaches how to fight them.
"It is easy to be good, the hard thing is to be just. The most perfect justice is conscience."
      Victor Hugo
This is where moral duty comes into play because not everyone has the same morals and naturally the same conscience. This difference creates destruction and caos.
The screenwriter brings a critique of dehumanized, humanized, othering, tribalism, utilitarianism, memento mori, moral justice and post apocalyptic concepts. And this Neil Druckmann's critique is unique and enormous.
Big is not always good. The world is already covered with grays, different voices, different tones, different sizes, different thoughts, different emotions, different ideologies and naturally differences.
The love one has for oneself is a beautiful thing if one can also do self-criticism. The important thing is to create one's own style, ideas, feelings and perspective on life by embracing oneself and what is happening.
First we need to learn what empathy is.
According to the studies on babies, although our innate ability to empathize is high, it is a skill that can be lost quickly under appropriate conditions. The way to gain empathy later on is to ask open-ended questions, act slowly and make comments, avoid making quick judgments, try to understand our own behavior and thoughts, learn from the past, let things flow, and set certain limits for ourselves and the behavior of others.
This ability, which increases cooperation, productivity, prosperity and happiness when used for positive purposes, takes the form of manipulation when used for bad purposes.
Empathy is when a person puts himself in the other person's shoes and understands his/her feelings and thoughts correctly. Human relationships develop through empathy. Fights between people decrease and disappear over time. On the other hand, family empathy is putting the person in front of the family members in their place. In this way, individuals know how the other person will react and act accordingly.
      There are three rules for the full realization of empathy;
      a) Putting himself in the place of the other person and looking at the events from his/her point of view,
      b) To understand and feel the feelings and thoughts of the other person correctly,
      c) Expressing that you understand that person.
      empathy in parapsychology,
Empathy is the name given in Parapsychology to the phenomenon of the transmission of emotions and spiritual states between two living beings, who are spiritually closely connected to each other, and to this psychic contact. Although it is considered a telepathic form of communication by some, its difference from telepathy, as can be understood from its definition, is the absence of thought and image transfer in empathy.
For example, it has been observed that when one of the two empaths suffers from a bodily ailment, the other empath also experiences pain in the same part of their body. Observation and experiments have shown that the state of empathy occurs more frequently between mother and children and between twins. Experiments on animals show that empathy occurs especially between parents and offspring. For example, in one experiment, a mother rabbit who was taken miles away from her cubs screamed bitterly when her cubs were killed.
“Empathy makes a good person a better person because good people can't stand suffering, and empathy makes that pain more pronounced.
But if a sadistic person is made empathetic, he/she will only become a happier sadist."
      Paul Bloom / Against Empathy
Empathy also has a dark side. Empathy doesn't show the truth because people are different because of moral relativism, tribalism, momento mori instinct and psychology science.
Empathy is created not by showing the differences between the two parties, but by showing the similarities between the two parties. Because similarity creates semantics. But tribalism and psychology bring out the dark side of empathy.
There are many similarities and parallel repercussions between Ellie and Abby in Part I and Part II. Abby saves two children while Ellie has a cheerful and friendly snowball fight with the children. While Abby plays with the dog, Ellie sincerely loves Gustavo Santaolalla's dog. Humans and Abby and Ellie are gray and truly human. There are thousands more similarities and parallel reflections between Ellie and Abby. I don't want to make a fuss!
Also, the fighting part in the theater is very successful because empathy and semantic are first formed by recognizing and understanding the similarities. For this, first of all, it is necessary to understand what the simile is, because it is the imitator who creates the like. Because empathy is breaking prejudices and finding similarity in the other community or on the other side.
None of the puzzle pieces here are in your hands. Everyone places all the pieces according to their own ideology and morals. That's the beauty of it.
That's the beauty of The Last Of Us Part II. The Last Of Us Part II is an absolutely unique and innovative artistic masterpiece.
Abby also has a psychological and inner-world goal and rising action, which is more powerful and creative than Ellie's.

It's like John Wick finding the guy who killed his dog and not killing him.
It's like Arya finding the Freys, who were behind The Red Wedding, and letting them live.
It's like Eragon finally meeting the Ra'zacs, who killed Brom and Garrow, and not killing them.
It's like Vegeta defeating Frieza, the man responsible for the extinction of his entire race, and not killing him.

@@JollyWanker Revenge stories ending in forgiveness or at least letting go of one's hatred is a fairly common trope and not inherently bad. See the Revenant for a somewhat recent and well received depiction of this. Leo lets go of his hate and chooses not to kill the man who murdered his son and left him for dead; he chooses instead to let nature decide the fate of people after a brutal fight, not unlike what happened here. Citing stories wherein the protagonist takes revenge instead of choosing to forgive doesn't further your argument that it's stupid; it just makes you seem young and not well read.
