GSP.
He turned the sport from human cockfighting to a legitimate sport by his image as a martial artist instead of cage fighter. Even pushed us into the modern era with stringent testing!
That's why he's one of my GOATS.
FACTS! GSP is the GOAT. 13 title wins, across 3 generation of fighters, over 10 years, 2 divisions, no peds, avenged his only losses, beat champions and number one contenders all his career. Love Khabib but GSP is definitely the GOAT.

GSP made a serious impact on the attitude people have when they hear MMA. Him and Chuck were my personal favorites growing up.
Even Khabib and his father were inspired by GSP big time
Anderson SIlva not getting even a honorable mention? Let me tell you why he should have:
He skyrocked MMA's popularity in Brazil in numbers beyond comprehension. Before his bout against Vitor, MMA was very obscured, only a few hardcore fans new about the UFC, PRIDE being more popular because it was aired on television, and 99% of Brazil not even knowing that MMA was a thing. Wanderlei Silva was known by very few people, Shogun Rua even less, Royce Gracie? basically unheard off by the population. Then comes Anderson Silva, and in just 3 years (period between Sonnen and Vitor bouts) he alone unleashed MMA's popularity in Brazil like nothing before. Just so you can get the picture: A making off/backstage program got the biggest ratings of any sports channel in Brazil, this including surpassing football, the most popular sport of all time, and reigning king of audience.
Ariel Helwani had this to say: "I've never seen so many brazilian press journalists in Las Vegas. Actually, I have never seen so many brazilian news jornalists in a UFC card ever. There's no doubt that this is a historic event for the country."
Combate, a combat sports only channel, had a 25% subscription increase in just one month. Anderson Silva became, for us brazilians, the Pelé of the UFC, we all knew who he was, and with him, the sport of MMA became so mainstream in Brazil, that nowadays MMA is even more popular than brazilian Jiu jitsu, Judo or Muay Thai (the most popular combat sports of Brazil).
The reason MMA is so implemented in today's society that even if you ask people who are oblivious to the sport, they still know very well who Anderson Silva is, is a understatement to how much he changed MMA.
And this is just in Brazil, keep in mind the world also saw what Anderson did, and became interested in MMA because of it. To not give him even a honorable mention, is a understatement of how low you guys think of him.
Tldr
Anderson Silva is the Royce Gracie of striking
Pfft. He sucks
Hes a cheater.
@@Biggie2829 Anderson revolutionized the striking game and skyrocketed MMA into becoming one of Brazil's mainstream sports.
Edit: Not only in Brazil but quite honestly the rest of the world, singlehandedly

@@TandJgaming or throwing a steel dolly on a bus and hurting other people? lil hater.
@@TandJgaming I found it very heroic, stand up for yourself from a bully.
I feel like Don Frye should be on this list. He was the first true multi discipline fighter in UFC history. Wrestling, Boxing, and Judo. He really emphasized the "Mixed" in Mixed Martial Arts.
Like Rodney Dangerfield he gets no respect. Even though I totally agree with you on his fighting skills, he lost a couple of matches to a completely roided out Ken Shamrock. Dan Severn and Don Frye, the Beast and the Predator definitely deserved a mention. Ken Shamrock was boring to watch. Don Frye was always outmatched by bigger stronger opponents, but completely destroyed them.
Don frye was a biest😠
I'm pretty sure that he won UFC 8 & 9. I'm much more impressed with the pre UFC Japanese MMA Grand Prix style, shoot fighting tournaments that had unlimited 15 minute rounds until someone quit or was KO'd. No weight classes and the possibility of having to beat Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz in order to fight a relatively fresh Royce Gracie in his prime (all jacked on PED's at the time except Sakuraba) on his terms was easily defeated by Kazushi Sakuraba who was one of the most relaxed, dangerous, entertaining fighters of his day. Three three minute rounds once a year is like patty cakes compared to the no rules, no rounds, no weight classes, fight until someone taps or is unconscious, then advance to fight another unlimited time & weight competitor to have the shot to fight someone like the Terminator or Kimo who are fresh due to complete destruction of smaller weaker opposition in mere seconds or minutes.

Now we want a four man tournement in the LW division: "Conor, Justin, Tony and Dustin"
I think justin needs to fight chandler conor beats Dustin chandler beats justin tony fights chandler then Conor vs tony for the strap
honesty lightweight is so stacked that I think an 8 man tourney would be better. We would obviously have your original 4, but I think adding Dan Hooker, Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev, and Diego Ferrerira would spice the tournament up little. And I think 7 fights would be much better than 3. We would have to wait a while before we crown a champ, but since were adding all the top contender no one would be complaining or upset, and now no one can dodge fights, so as soon as Poirier beats Gaejthe, Tony can finally run through everyone and become champion :)
@@chrismoore677 chandler would get slept by justin

I think all four of them should fight in a steel cage death match. Four men enter, one man leaves.
Don’t get me wrong..Conor took the game to another level...but so did Khabib but even better. 4 years mma wasn’t as popular as it today in the Middle East. But after that Conor vs Khabib fight...it became one of the most exciting sports to watch here. So thanks to both Conor and Khabib for showing the Fun side and respectful side of the sport
Conor brought a lot of new fans to the sport. A lot of them might be casuals who worship McGregor but I am willing bet that a large portion of those fans are more hardcore fans. Credit where credit is due.
@BIG DADDY I come from a south Asian background (Pakistani) and what khabib has done for the sport in the Middle East and South Asia is incredible. He even got my dad to watch a fight 😂😂
Conor took the money game on another level, not the fighting game.
Khabib has never bled in the octagon dont forget that
FACT !!!
He is one of a kind.
Silva changed the game by teaching us what it looked like to be invincible
true that !
Nick Diaz was THE catalyst in the new weed regulations. He should have more than a quick mention.
Yep and also nate who made a one off title.
@Roman Sekret obviously you need to learn how to read. Nick is 26 wins, 9 losses, 2 no contests, Nate is 21 wins, 12 losses for a total of 47 wins, 21 losses combined and either one would tear you apart in seconds.
@@korie4198 calm down Diaz jock strap they're both still overrated

smart move by Jocko sponsoring videos on these types of channels...
Liddell brought me to the party and GSP made me fall in love with the sport. MMA is still young and we are just getting started.

Dont let anyone tell you that Papa Cheal Sonnen doesnt have a belt in every weight class or that he isnt undefeated. If Jon Jones is 1 Cheal Sonnen is 0...
Jon Jones should at least be top 2 on anyone's all time list
GSP was a God
Prime Fedor was the best heavy weight of all time, and in all around mma Fedor is the goat heavy weight (any day over Stipe) and maybe all time goat
Please research Dan Henderson, man was a Pride legend, extremely underrated
Dont under rate prime Anderson Silva or Demetrious Johnson
Gracie's were bjj wizards and their ju-jitsu was and still is the greatest, there is a reason only the best train under them
Fighter pay is actually really good, just not a absurd as top level boxing, and that it isnt the ufc's or any promotions fault that the fighter that is getting low pay, or that they boring or uninteresting. @Xion Collins Two judges gave Gaethje the first round in their fight.
I don't agree with it at all, but it did happen.

GSP is the GOAT. 13 title wins, across 3 generation of fighters, over 10 years, 2 divisions, no peds, avenged his only losses by finish, beat champions and number one contenders all his career, has one of the best resumes and mostly dominated all his fights. People say Khabib is the GOAT because he's 29-0 but the fact is that Khabib only has 13 ufc fights and 4 title wins. People also say Khabib has dominated every person. Yes he did so incredibly but GSP beat everyone at their own game. Outgrappled Penn, Serra, Diaz, outstruck Bisping and Condit, Outwrestled Shields and went toe-to-toe with Johnny Hendricks. He was good at every area of MMA. Love Khabib but GSP is definitely the GOAT.
Usman would eat Georges for breakfast
@@levicarvalho4389 lmao joke of the year
@@bryanyau2001 it's true
@@ardithackovija6135 yall are cute for thinking that. GSP legit outwrestled and dominated NCAA wrestlers his whole career. Jon Fitch, Jake Shields, Josh Koshchek, Sean Sherk, Matt Hughes and went toe to toe with Prime/PED Johnny Hendricks. Usman barely took down Masvidal and didnt even attempt to wrestle with Colby, you think he can take down or outwrestle GSP? Lol
Why do people always talk about title fights? It doesnt even matter, the only reason GSP has more title fights is because he got his in 3 fights khabib had to win about 9 fights to finally get his shot. If khabib got his title shot after 3 fights he would have more title defenses.
GREAT video, as usual. Greetings from Peru.
Kazushi Sakuraba deserves at least an honorable mention for helping put Japanese MMA on the map with PRIDE at one point outgrossing the UFC and for also breaking the image of the unbeatable Gracie family and their unbeatable Gracie Jiu-Jitsu.
Would be a split spot, but Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar deserve a mention as well. The TUF1 finale was an irl Rocky movie that saved the UFC.

Great video - really enjoyed it.
My one nitpick is that Conor's Proper 12 logos at 229 aren't the same thing as fighters selling advertising on their shorts. Unless the UFC gave those spots away for free, that is. Which I think it's safe to say they didn't.
Proper 12 surely paid a ton of money for that - and I'm sure it's available to other fighters as well. The ad inventory on fighter's shorts didn't cost fighters a thing.
The one caveat here is that I'm sure these ad spots were negotiated in the same contract where Conor negotiated his compensation for the fight. So he might have gotten a better deal than an outside brand would have gotten. However, there's no way it was free. If this happened, Conor likely paid from his purse for the upside of growing his company's brand - and probably compensated himself from the brand since that was a essentially a business expense and not a personal one.
