I'm from Finistère, Brittany France, we were heavily touched by the storm. The wind was at 207km/h here. I no longer have a gate, and my shutters were fighting for their lives all the night
207km/h?! That’s like a tornado wow
Yes 207 km/h at "La pointe du Ras", I'm from Ille-et-Vilaine in Brittany and we've had several power cuts.
I'm in the netherlands. It's insane here too. Hope people make it out ok ❤
Im from belgium this is not normal
Europeans are so blessed with their mild weather. After living around the world I appreciate the lack of deadly weather we have in England
We all just end up enduring a lifetime of mediocrity. Weather, food, sports....

... government ...
Rest assured we will have some hurricanes in the near future. More heat. More storms. Stronger storms.
Not to mention all the volcanoes and earthquakes we have to put up.
never seen anything like it? thats such an overstatement, its just another storm
Bin doin it since time began
They asked a 12 year old
I guess no one was born in 1987 when the worst hurricane storm force winds devastated most of the country. The storm that was never going to happen, according to some. We have seen much worse than storm ciaran in recent years too.
Yes this was nothing
The rule now is to panic and over-react - on everything. I was 17 in 1976 when it was HOT, and I was 28 in 1987 when we nearly had our roof blown off. Of course, if that happened now, it would be global warming!!!
@@barryfoster453 There was no global warming back then and there is no global warming now. Source: Anecdote.
Asking for a friend.... how many dinghies made it across last night... !!!
quite wet & windy up here in northwales, too, but not as bad as down south
Just normal weather.
Aberystwyth, Cardigan Bay 1981. Total destruction of front. 2 students washed out to sea. Way worse than this
Despite centuries of past storms, floods, and crises, too many people are still living and building in flooding zones, too near to beaches/lakes/rivers, and in spite of decades of warnings about global warming, rosing sea-levels, and much increased risks and hazards re drought, flooding, storms, hurricanes, etc....we continue to see most people and businesses continuing as if nothing has changed in the world. The most obvious lesson of the past 20 years is that we need to relocate inland and upland, protecting lives, livelihoods, and vital infrastructure from all of the ground-level threats. After each disaster, we need to rebuild for resilience, for long-overdue sustainability, and for environmental friendliness....and moving away from coastlines and bodies of water....Don't keep repeating the same mistakes And rebuilding in the same failing ways . . . and in the same disaster-prone areas....
We’re looking a 76 metres of sea level rise- that’s a lot of moving.
@@NapoleonGelignite Most places in the world are nowhere near to having so much increased sea-levels. However, if even a quarter of the figure that you just cited (and what is the source?) is likely, then everything that we expressed in the earlier comments today is far more urgent than we conveyed. Some islands are under 20 feet above sea-levels. So entire countries and coastal zones are already disappearing or at high risk of inundation, erosion, or collapse. All the more reasons to start with the relocation of the most vulnerable homes and infrastructure. Most importantly, all NEW construction and planning should take fullest advantage of the lessons of the recent catastrophic events and losses. Move to higher ground! Nothing simpler or clearer than that lesson.
@@NapoleonGeligniteno! , stop listening to MSN
???? One person died, compared to the 2000 a year that die on the roads of Britain every year. Get a grip, learn to set proper priorities. Don't be led by the nose by those who wish to manipulate you for their own ends.
@brentshuffler1234 it's got nothing to do with sea level rise. Sea levels over the last 140years have only risen by 25cm. The rate of acceleration in recently ears have been modest. There have always been towns and villages built close to the sea and on rare occasions any one of these can be inundated with water due to storms. Its not a big deal. Insurance will deal with it.
Advance warning, it will be hot in the Mediterranean this summer, so if you don’t like it hot and you don’t mind slow traffic and incomprehensible warning signs and wet weather visit Wales
😂😂
@philipbaker2894 I'm here everyday. 👍

Hello im here from belgium i can conflirm the trees are defenetly suffering i have never seen this before
Which town in Northern Ireland was shown in this clip?
Chilling in Birmingham, just some rain, nothing else.
I think the Great Storm in the 80’s was just as destructive.
Never seen anything like this'? Were you born yesterday?
My thoughts are with those who are in the midst of this storm!
It's nice to see people out having fun in the cool weather. I feel sorry for the people flooded though. So we must innovate things to cope better!
They should stop spending on war's.spend in the country where its needed😮
Its going to get worst. Ireland already open pandoras box to follow the footsteps of the Americans starting with Dublin.
It’s plurtin’ doon and blowy as F man.
This weather is not out of the ordinary for this time of year. Claiming this hasn't been seen before is just not true.
And please stop deleting my comment, it's just rude!
You’re a climate science denier right? Figures you can’t see what’s under your nose.
@@jasoncampbell7156 I remember travelling through Kent on the way to Dover the day after the storm in October '87. It looked like a war zone everywhere.
@@NapoleonGeligniteyou are a history denier. This is just weather. What ever the weather hot cold wet or dry these carbon taxers will try and manipulate it to cause fear amongst the ignorant
Spot on if they are deleting your comments your hitting the target was in Hurricane Andrew Gulf of Mexico known for that type of weather did my sailing training Solent 30 years ago Force 10 and 11.
@@englishstark610010/11 is that all. Had that camped on Shetland.
I have seen this sort of storms when sailing across the Atlantic with Columbus 500 years ago.... nothingburger
Why are they showing 3 people breaking into a place ????
Looting ? apparently its Armageddon and the world is going to end.
Hurricane of 1987 was way way worse.
That wasn't even an hurricane that was a storm with hurricane force winds just like this storm with 129mph winds in france
@@henkschrader4513 Technically an extra tropical cyclone. But yes, not a hurricane. It's just generally referred to as a hurricane by most of the people that remember it. Oddly, it's also my earliest datable memory. A huge oak branch crushed my dad's car!
It absolutely was, without a doubt!
That apparently only effected a small percentage of the U.K. I am told people in Birmingham hardly noticed anything.
@@davecooper3238 that's the same as this current storm
Lol. Can you imagine some of these news people in 1940 and 1941 ?
Yup, it is fall weather, always was this way
i remember seeing waves like that as a kid at the sea side.
I'm sure you did. I'm sure you're not misremembering due to the amount of time which has since elapsed, coupled with the fact that you were by your own admission a child.
Fun fact! Human memory is actually very unreliable, and when we recall things we are not actually remembering the actual memory itself, but the last time we recalled it; this can lead to a snowball effect in the memory becoming distorted over time, such as remembering merely big waves as ones which are the worst the country has seen in recent memory.
It's most typical in boomers and gen Xers who like to pretend that everything is fine and nothing is wrong.
@@oxymoron02Weather is nothing special. Barely a storm. Completely normal. Go to bed child.
I'm in Berkshire, and there was virtually NOTHING at all, here, and I mean nothing of note. We had a few blustery breezes, and that was it. The Met Office's warning of 'don't drive' was a joke - here at least.
1:15 think you caught a crime in progress lol
We're too gonna have a storm here in middle east and it will start winter here after the storm
Fair play to the Guardian for getting the name right 👍

Here we go again the Guardian making out bad weather is the end of the world, it’s just bad weather no need to call bad weather a name, and we have seen bad weather before

Don't worry, I'm sure the people who don't believe in climate change will be fine
Yep, totally fine getting on with life
@yesmate78 bet you're lying and you don't live in an affected area.
It's interesting that it's the people who live by water who tend to the most anti-climate change, isn't it? It'll make for amusing spectacle at the very least
