  • Check out our Recirculating Aquaculture System Update! 🐟
In this video, Im providing an extensive two-year update on our recirculating aquaculture system. Join us as we explore the minor and significant changes we've made to optimize our fish farming process, from adjusting our swirl filter to flushing pipes, to managing the secondary clarifier.
🔎 What You'll Find in This Video:
Swirl Filter Adjustment: How we've modified the swirl filter to enhance water movement, improve solids suspension, and increase water volume.
Secondary Clarifier Management: We demonstrate cleaning the secondary clarifier, using matala pads, and the importance of keeping it clean for the moving bed bioreactor.
Summer vs. Winter Maintenance: Learn how the seasonal change affects feeding, temperature, and maintenance routines.
Solids Removal Process: A detailed walkthrough of removing solids, flushing the system, and maintaining healthy bacteria.
Plumbing Challenges & Solutions: Our innovative solutions to deal with plumbing, 90-degree angles, and flow velocity.
Moving Bed Bioreactor Health Check: Discover how to assess the health of your bioreactor beads and the importance of proper mixing.
IBC Totes Cleaning & Fish Feeding: An exclusive look at how we clean the tanks and feed our carp and Sturgeon.
🌊 Aquaculture Keywords: Recirculating Aquaculture System, Swirl Filter, Secondary Clarifier, Moving Bed Bioreactor, Matala Pads, Solids Removal, Aerobic Digestion, Fish Tanks, Nitrate Management, Greenhouse Nutrients, IBC Totes.
💡 Why you want to watch this video?
If you're into fish farming, greenhouse farming, or aquaculture technology, this update is packed with insights and practical guidance that you won't want to miss. Whether you're a beginner or a pro, you'll find tips, tricks, and updates on our system's components, including how we manage water and debris control.

Great video. I have been raising rainbow trout in my backyard in Utah for 6 years. I love it. I can tinker with my systems for hours lol. Nice to see someone else doing it too.

I hate tinkering!!!!! How many fish and how much water? In ponds or tanks? Flow through or RAS? Had you watched my other RAS videos?

Are there any concerns of microplastics being present in the fish that we rear for consumption due to the use of K1 and other plastic filter media?

We are concerned with plastics in general. I don’t think many plastics partition into muscle (fillet). Not saying they can’t through some cellular mechanisms or uptake through phagocytes cells just a low likelihood. Here is a recently published study. www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0269749123022352#appsec1

@@ThisIsAquaculture Thank you so much for the info and resource. I was worried that I might have to get rid of my K1 and the bunched up nets that I use as bio media, but as long as it doesn’t get into the fillet, I’m fine with it haha. This channel is the best in terms of information density, video production quality, and presentation.

Hello my friend, does the fish tank in this system produce an unpleasant smell? Thank you❤❤❤
