Well, somewhat around 30-40% of americans have german heritage for at least one parent. And the time where germans were the bad guys is long over, so people also start to appreciate their roots again.

I think, ordinary lawn mowers are most common here. However these robots (nicknamed electro-sheep) have gotten pretty trendy lately.
Btw. Husqvarna (manufacturer of those automowers) is a Swedish brand.

Not only school rooms must have daylight by law, also all office rooms.
And it is not everything closed on Sundays. Restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas, museums, leisure parks, zoos, public pools, etc. are open. So there are a lot of things you can do on Sundays, just not buy anything. And because almost everyone who is not working in the above named sectors, will have also a free Sunday (most of them also Saturday), you can do all that with your friends the whole weekend. Isn't this a good concept?

Hi Franzi(common german abbriviation for your name), first of all Welcome to Germany. Dont get to much "shocked" just enjoy the good differences from your point of view and may be you can transfer it back home also. Well, your first definitely demands you speak german, so expecting one of the next videos will be in german. :-D I am sure you face a hard tough time but once its over you will miss things and your mind, your views will be much much more open. Godd luck and crossing fingers for you while you are here.

Welcome to Germany and enjoy your stay! 👍
Those robot lawn mowers may be convenient on the one hand. On the other hand they can severely harm smaller animals: often for example hedgehogs get legs cut off or frogs/toads get killed. 😥 That's why I'd never buy such a thing but instead mow my lawn by myself even if it takes me some time.
Most people just aren't aware of those dangers and only see the advantages...

Hi Franziska - First, Welcome to Germany.
You probably see many students driving motorcycles due to the fact that you can get your motorcycles driver license being in the age of 16. (in some German states you can even get such license in the age of 15). However depending on your actual age (15, 16, 18 up to 20) you are then still limited to performance (horsepower) and engine capacity (cubic centimeters) motorcycles which also results in different speed limits of those bikes. Driver licenses for cars you can get mostly in the age of 17 and you then can usually can drive while being under supervision of an adult driver like your parents being on the passenger seat) so driving alone in a car you usually (very few exceptions) is then from the age of 18 or above which is unlike to the US where you can get your DL and drive in the age of 16.
As you were talking about differences in school - how does a day looks like in an US highschool in regards of breaks during the day? Don't you have that many short breaks in order to change class rooms, being able to get some fresh air, having a snack or going to the bathroom if needed?

    • @kpusa1981uk
      @kpusa1981uk Před 2 lety +1

Usually breaks during the day lunch which is 30 - 45 minutes. 3-5 minutes passing periods between the classes for the students.

First: Welcome to Germany. Hopefully you are having a great time here.
Well, failing on digitalization is one of the flaws from Merkel`s time as our chancelor. Hopefully this will become much better soon. You are here a good time, and maybe witness are major change in Germany. Well, it won`t be as big as Obama to Trump or Trump to Biden, but well, Germany is a very constant political base, so the successor will be only the 9th chancelor since 1949.
School vacations are different also in dates from federal state to federal state and year to year in Germany - and that winter holidays don`t exist in all states, but others e.g. may have therefore longer easter holidays. But more vacation is also true for the working population. Normal is 30 days off (on a 5 workdays per week base, and sick days do not substract these) but can also be as much as 40 days a year.

Do you get paid for the number of times you use the word "like"? You cannot get a full motorcycle licence at 15; that would be 18. You can get a licence for Mofa and Moped at 15; these have a legalmaximum speed of 25kmh.

    Regarding bread.
It's a even bigger deal in my country, Norway.
A lot of people have bread for breakfast, lunch and evening meals, and only dinner is hot for them.
As for the pen and paper thing.
Germany has had some *really* bad experiences with surveillance (Nazi Germany and DDR).
At one point almost 2% of the population of east Germany was spies, spying on people in their own homes.
In part because of that the country has been *very* reluctant to allow any technology that may reduce peoples privacy in any way, shape or form.
So I'm fairly sure that it's not just your school.
And yes, Merkel was East German.
You can imagine her reluctance towards a whole host of technologies...
There's a political shift now that should begin to change things a bit.
