As a Dutchman living in Malaysia for many years i find your video / commands interesting
I have to disagree on some of the things you say
You didnt like Penang? Penang is a beautiful place one of the best places in Malaysia it is not for nothing called the pearl of the orient
It has some interesting places to go and see and it also has some nice beaches
You mentioned Cameron highlands and how there was no going in to the jungle this is not true
In Cameron highlands you can book guided jungle tracking.
They bring you in to the jungle with a 4 wheel drive
I know people on vacation / holiday have only so much time aand so many things to see
But you never mentioned my home town Melaka paradise city but i guess if you dont like Penang you wont like Melaka
An other place to go to is Ipoh
Next time you come maybe try to find information or just ask local people

Appreciate for the honest and fair view.
Not every tourist like big city with crowded visitors.
The best thing about Malaysia is it offers a lot, from
Big modern city, seculaded places, islands, jungles, parks, malls, wild animals, culture, food etc. You have variety of choices you can choose...but the best of malaysia is its people.❤

Laos and Cambodia are not developed, and there are vast untouched forests. Their culture is completely preserved if that is what you're looking for. Malaysia is a developing country, and the landscape of the country has changed a lot over the years.

For your next trip, do check out these places instead. Instead of Penang, check out Perak for better food selection. Kuala Kangsar and Taiping was a great start, but Ipoh have a lot of foodie spots. Instead of going to Genting/Cameron for highlands, check out Bukit Tinggi and Janda Baik off the Bentong town and Frasers Hill for a more charming and laid back vibe. On the way to Kelantan, do take a moment to stop by Cherating beach for a very quiet as well as surfer spot in the area. There is also turtle sanctuary nearby. Kenyir lake can be a hit or miss, but when you know some locals, you can score a very scenic spots and can truly be within the wild. Especially if you like to check out the fishing scene. This is also a nice place to stay on a boathouse. Pahang goes underrated with foreigners but among locals, it is a local destination for a quick get away. An hour or two off Kuala Lumpur have a few hills and mountain hikes you can enjoy, if you are into that. Kuala Kubu Bharu and Ulu langat is within Selangor state, which have the same vibe as Taiping old town.
Seeing your love for nature, i think west Malaysia would be your ideal place in Malaysia. Do check out the Rainforest Music Festival which happens annually in Sarawak.

Thank you for your reviews and opinions.. Its really shows that both of you love more about natural and cultures. It may contradict with others who love more about development and modern vibes. So its great for you enjoy road trip from west to east peninsular.
Next time you may enjoy east coast road trip from kota bharu, kuala terengganu and down to mersing. It's really great coastal vibes but make sure its around March to August. And also be prepare for more natural surrounding and some places far from town. But you already face it during road trip from west to east. So it may similar but with coastal vibes.
But to enjoy more of it, plan for road trip from kuching to kota kinabalu. It really great natural vibes but be prepare for more dangerous wildlife in many places. Don't simply get into water as you did in peninsular. Ask the local first before get into any river or beaches.

There’s a third highland, called Fraser’s Hill which is less developed than Genting, less commercialized/ agriculturally commercialized than Cameron. Not much to do there, just chill and relax. There were many colonial cottages with in-stay butlers, but I’m not sure they are still in operation. These guys can make you a whole spread just like how it was done British-style. The main event is the International Bird Race, and also the Le Tour de Langkawi cycling which i think no longer goes to Fraser’s Hill (Need to check the annual calendar events). Locals go up to Cameron Highlands for a night stay during weekends, Fraser’s Hill tend to be a day trip. I would rate Fraser’s Hill #1, followed by Cameron and lastly Genting.
Ppl normally go to Tioman for scuba diving, as well as to nearby smaller island like Aur Island. Great if you would consider taking up the open water basic license, and then going to these islands for the advanced license. Reason: basic license you learn techniques which u want to get right and clear understanding of the steps, advanced license are geared towards different type of activites to learn, but most importantly, u would be descending deeper into the ocean, and that u wouldn’t freak out. It’s a very good, especially if u planning to go to Borneo side of Malaysia, as there are many great dive sites there. There’s a combined license as well, but i wouldnt recommend that, coz I believe in getting ur basic right, then explore. Lastly, most dive sites are seasonal due to the monsoon be it at the East Coast or East Malaysia, so do check out the weather and do check with the dive operators, especially on what kind of marine life you want to spot. (I would want to dive at Turtle Tomb one day at Sipadan, but I have yet to find out more when’s the best time and requirements)

I'm from Shah Alam and i think the best cities to live permanently and have such good vibes are Kota Bharu, Dungun, Kangar and Kuching.
Where to next Mario & Olivia?
Edit: You should try another route from Cameron Highlands to Gua Musang to Kuala Terengganu. You have to spare extra gas though for this route. Locals will advise u to not go thru this route after 7pm because of wild elephants and other animals. The road isn't good, potholes everywhere tho.
But the best thing about this route is you won't find it anywhere else. The scenic view of Tasik Kenyir from slightly higher altitude. Mario would drop his jaw if he flies his drone there. Magnificent view.
I drove well around Malaysia couple of times but nothing beats this view. I didn't stop to fly drone there because i was alone and didnt wanna stop because of wild tigers. I drove there for a few hours only saw one other car along the stretch.

You are right. All you said is true. Penang is too crowded but a food haven though. I never like genting highland and cameron. There is no spectacular beach in JB. Spot on

Fraser's Hill is my favourite out of the 3 main highlands. Smallest oif the 3 but least commercial. I'm not sure if the annual bird watching event is still held there. And there's Mount Tahann in Taman Negara, Lake Kenyir, Tempurung cave and Titiwangsa range for camping.

I suggest you to go and visit Gunung Jerai, in Kedah. it will remind you of Gunung Raya from Langkawi 😊
And you should visit Royal Belum too.

Cameron Highland is popular with locals but had lost its former charms of cool climates and pristine mountains due excessive and haphazard developments. Become more and more overcrowded especially on weekends and public holidays.
