    MKP created a shift in Terran play for SC2 much like Boxer, his idol, did for SC1 and partially for SC2 as well. New strats opened up from his micro tricks, unfortunately like his idol he wasn't as consistent as other players who would take on board what they saw and create new metas and Boxer however I feel was the smarter player as he'd create strategies and builds around his play while MKP was pure god of micro play which was entertaining but limited against certain types of opposition.

    A possible theory for the unusual betting on his infamous match: someone close to him was aware of his mental situation leading to the match, possibly because of a personal event, and informed a select number of gambling contacts about it. I've heard similar stories happen in other sports betting, such as in tennis, where a friend "guaranteed" that they'd win a very risky bet on a tennis match because they had an insider who had informed them that the higher seeded/better tennis player had just broken up with her boyfriend the night before, and was thus incapable of performing at her peak.

      @@pavel9652 : Anyway, personally I think MKP wasn't match fixing, because of the following reasons:
      1. he was cleared by the investigation. it is highly unlikely that he would have gotten special treatment from KeSpa when they were willing to burn Life, YoDa, Gerrard, and BByong, who were all more prominent players whose exposure would (and did) cause damage to the SC2 scene.
      2. in general, match fixers do not want unusual betting to be noticed by the online betting sites, as that results in bets getting voided and all their efforts getting wasted.
      3. None of the players involved in the "suspicious betting line" matches ended up getting arrested for match-fixing, while none of the players who got arrested for match-fixing were involved in "suspicious betting" matches. Because, again, matchfixers are usually much more savvy at making the throws look believable, and keeping the info under wraps.

    • @stephencraig3176
      @stephencraig3176 Před rokem +3

      it's just sort of how the race is designed, fast moving fragile range units. marines, hellions, banshees, medivacs, liberators all these units can get massive massive returns with micro. other races get rewarded for other tasks more than micro, so micro becomes a 2ndard or 3rd tier priority. i.e micro these 20 lings + 6 queens or do a full inject cycle + spread tumors everywhere, in 90% of situations the inject + tumors is better.
      Where as terran if they get to micro that double drop of marines or go do...... what, put down 2 rax 3 depos then go back to microing the marines??? (comparative to the other races of course, but a lot of the actions required of terran are micro based)

      @@stephencraig3176 He was asking specifically about Prime Terrans i.e. Terran players on Team Prime.
      To answer that question, it stands to reason that a Proleague team sharing the same coach would share similar priorities in practice. I imagine their coach emphasised micro as a means to get more out of engagements and turn balanced trades into favourable ones. Or perhaps that mentality is what led them to sign prodigal players with great micro.

    MKP certainly did not fix match. The prosecution Korea is not an amateur, and in particular, if it starts an investigation into match fixing, it will investigate not only himself but also all the accounts of related people. When there is a match-fixing charge, an investigation into all calls over the months is also made. MKP was completely innocent in all investigations. Sometimes it is ridiculous to see overseas fans still suspect MKP.
    MKP was originally famous for being mentally weak, and there are many games that were embarrassed as well as this game. In the year of this game, MKP's performance was so bad so i think that effect this match.
    he said it was really hard while being investigated at this time, and after investigation he looks like lost passion and abstaining various competitions since then. Eventually, he retired because of the army.

    Its a shame those match fixers killed competitive SC2's legitimacy to many because the game was just coming into an era of good balance and it would filter out a lot of these "Patch" type players. The only thing that kept that label off them like hit the zergs and these type of Terrans constantly in the game was that marines were stupidly overpowered in the first two versions of the game.
    TL;DR- Artosis' comments at 8:50 sum it up best. Inflexible player that just couldnt evolve with the rest of the game. Probably would have lost to 12 year old Maru.
