    Good video. Huge Eley fan. CMP used to sell bulk Eley which I believe corresponded to Eley Club. By far the most accurate and consistent ammo in all my rifles. They haven't had it for a couple of years and are currently selling Armscor bulk which is kind of crappy in all my guns. Hope they get it back some day. It was priced around 350 bucks for 5k round case, or 7 cents or so a round. Those were the days.

    You are haveing way to much fun! A few years back I was shooting a lot of Wolf Match Extra but no more due to age. I had two favorite rifles a CZ American and a 1710 Anschutz. These were my go-to rifles when I shot sporter class. I have shot all the upper end bullets and to be honest Wolf deserved a spot close to the most expensive bullets you could buy.
    Something you may want to try is put a 1/4" black dot on a white back ground and adjust the scope so it will be a inch or more away from the dot. It keeps your aiming point clean. It helped me when I shot groups and paid off when we took bets. I really enjoy your videos!They take me back in time for a few minutes. God bless

    Im pretty late to this party but I just tested the Eley Match extra today.(7/14/22) Unfortunately what started out as, "Have I found my new BR ammo?" quickly turned into, "I can't even practice with this stuff." Not in my BR rifle at least, which is a CZ455 action with a John Langley .5 oz trigger, a Benchmark 23in 2 grove match chamber barrel set in a Klinsky stock.
    I started out with a clean action and bore and after my first 5 fowlers the grouping really started to tighten up, with the next five fowlers shooting a group of .244. The problem began with the 5th round of my first group; a failure to eject, which also happened to be flyer. That surprised me as it's the first time any of my 7 CZ 22's has ever failed to eject. When I extracted the brass I could see scratches and a small gouge on the rim cause by the extractor. long story short, this happened an additional four times over the course of twenty rounds, with 2 of the FTE rounds being the flyers of their groups. I have the attachments that go on the caliper to measure rim thickness and I found about every 7th or 8th round measured .037 and the rest, .038. Measuring about 20 rounds of Tenex for comparison all came out at.038. I didn't think .001 would be the difference between extracting and not extracting so I examined the rim of a Tenex and a Wolf butted up against each other under a magnifying glass. It appeared to me that the Tenex had a slight slope on the backside of the rim whereas the Wolf was more straight up and down. I asked my wife to take a look to see if she could see any difference between the two without telling her what to look for. After about 30 seconds she came to the same conclusion.
    I haven't tried this ammo in any of my other rifles yet, hopefully they won't have the same problem. My LabRadar data on the 20 rounds wasn't great but not too bad.

    As a .22 benchrest shooter, I find that it takes a few rounds for the barrel to "season in" after each change ammo. Simply jumping from one brand to another can skew velocities and group sizes. Try firing 5 into the backstop before testing.

      Yep...
      Go to 300 yds... 12"x12" steel plate... 10 shots after 10 shots warm up a barrel...
      You need higher velocities
      to group at 300 yd.

    I have a Savage MRKII TRR/SR. I shot Eley Target ammo for years through my Savage, then I was unable to buy Eley Target locally and started shooting CCI SV. The CCI shot nicely. I recently bought some Wolf Match extra online. My groups did tighten and I shot better with the Wolf Match Extra. I tried many .22LR brands through my rifle and the Eley always shot the best. I will buy the CCI when available only because of price. Great video too BTW

    @blakeedmonds3380 Před 2 lety +1

    Let me start out by saying- I love the videos.
    Did you notice how the speed from the chronograph corollated with impact point?
    In the 22LR speed differences are especially critical. The Eley had less differences and tighter groups.
    It circles us back to the argument to weigh ammo and measure rim thickness.
    Love the videos- thanks for including the chronograph it provides another level of data.
    I've found that often flyers are traveling at a (statistically) considerably different velocity then the rest of the bullets in what would have been a tight group.
    Would love to see you explore that while your shooting.

    Love your videos, especially on the 22 rimfires. Everyday i look to see if you`ve posted a new 22 rimfire video.
    Eley is clearly the winner in my opinion. Now if i could only find some locally. Can`t even find ANY 22 ammo at all.
    I see some online in other states, but being i live in the communist state of NY, i`m not allowed to have ammo shipped to me. :(

    When Wolf first came into the country and was being made in the East German factory, it shot lights out. We shoot a "cheap ammo" 50 yard benchrest match at our club - $10 or less per box of 50 - and absolutely no one uses Wolf now. The Eley made Wolf is bottom of the barrel. One guy who had bought cases of the East German ammo was a consistent winner but no one wins with the Eley stuff.

    It looks like Eley is slightly better, BUT... Barrel seasoning is very important in being confident of the results. Because of that factor, it should be shot enough with the new ammo before shooting for record to eliminate the possibility that the barrel seasoning is affecting the results. We all know that those two companies produce world class ammunition anyway. From one rifle to the next, the results will vary.

    Ed, The way that's shooting I'd guess there's several bugs in that tuner. I would have 'tuned' for one of the brands at least b4 running a test. If any of my 22s shot over 1" I'd be changing ammo. And with "Match" ammo I'd lower that to 1/2". My most expensive .22 is a Savage B22FV ($330CDN - about $250USD, prob LESS than his scope) and just shooting CCI-SV I get 1/2 to 3/4" @ 50 yards; and better with SKPlus or 'old' Eley. Never shot 'true Match' ammo - nothing over $10CDN/box. Even my Savage 64 ($150CDN) keeps under 1" with most 'good' ammo and a $100 scope. Since the ammo is from two diff makers, I agree it prob has different lubes - I don't like those 'greasy' lubes anyway. As for cleaning between ammo types, I pull a patch with a bit of alcohol to remove some of the lube, but Hoppes etc will leave a 'film' unless you use Alcohol or something to remove that. I don't brush until about 1-200 rounds (one range trip) using an ALL Brass brush and Boretech C4 Carbon solvent to really clean the bore and especially the chamber to remove Carbon ring.

      Fasteddie just because Match is in the name does not make it match ammo. Though Wolf has been good ammo it is about in the price range of SK Rifle Match. Oh by the way come on over and join the challenge we would love the company.

    • @charlesirby9222
      @charlesirby9222 Před 3 lety +1

      I clean when I change lubes (from paraffin to bees wax or vise versa) & I clean after 250 shots regardless. I use one wet patch of Hoppes #9 and a couple dry patches. Don't want the bore squeaky clean just want the excess carbon out...it will take up to 20 shots to stabilize the bore again. After that & before each session, I clean the chamber only with a .17 cal. bore mop and Hoppes #9, wipe dry the mop and dry the chamber...the barrel will stabilize in usually 5 shots.

    There will be a Difference between the two just the same as there is a Difference in hand loads when you change brand of brass as brass Capacity and things change

    Pretty clear that velocity has more difference than the rifle.. sure wish that you had properly zeroed, since the faster rounds were all outside the 1" circle, easily seen on the green targets...it seemed.the velocity may have made some windage.drift, also, or exaggerated the shooter's 'pull'. The rifle seems better than the ammo and the shooter !! ;-)
