I mounted it there because it doesn’t get in the way and there is a cover over it which prevents chips going into the slide, works really fine . I have modified the cover after this video was Shown 👍 thank you for watching my channel

Hm.. by the look of the reading head that's a SINO KA200 with 16x16 mm for the glass scale (the long aluminum piece), yes?
why mount it on the chuck side wont that get a lot of chips and etc damage?
