This is our first video of our house in Dolores, Leyte, Philippines which is under construction. We aim to complete the house in the next few years with the goal to live in it in (early)-retirement. We will update you with new pictures and videos when we can.

The negative thing about this housing subdivision is there is no paved road and storm drains. I see electric power poles and electricity is available, however, I doubt if there is a provision of potable water system in the area. Without that, each housing resident has to drill and install deep well and elevated water tanks. One draw back for the deep well is, if the the subdivision are fully filled with houses, which each housing resident uses and utilizes U/G SEPTIC Tanks which sip into the deep well water supply and contaminates with harmful bacteria and cause health problems.

We built our house in Manila when we moved from north east England 8 years ago best decision we have ever made to get out of the rat race.

looks like it will become a nice house. my mahal is not far from Ormoc. (Brgy . Lamanoc). we've been togeather almost 8 years. Sadly I can never visit the Philippines or retire there now because of recent law changes. pray someday I can bring her to the usa. Enjoyed your video.
Yep just starting the same thing. Got some property about 5km North of ormoc surrounded by rice fields nice n quite there.we got a 1000sm lot n r bying the other 1000sm lot next to it at the end of the year.Me n da wife just left there last week n loking forward to a early semi retirement there within 3.5 yrs when our daughter is old enough to start private school there. Good luck there n if u c a 2008 black Ford crown Victoria police interceptor speeding down highway that would b me.

If that is built in the eastern side of Leyte, finished house (tiled floors, well painted, fixtures on, perimeter fence, etc) of that size and architectural design might costs the owner around 4.5M pesos to say, 6M, that is, excluding the cost of the residential lot, or say approximately 80K to 100K pounds. Nice design and excellent location!

Hi Adam and Jane, suggest you spend some time on researching hot climate house design, if not too late, for comfort and power saving, white roof, reflective barrier in ceiling, wide eaves to shade windows particularly on east and western sides, large opening windows for ventilation, outside window louvres for shade on east and west facing, as much shade as possible, open floor plan design for through ventilation, white external walls.......

I believe you posted that you would share the design and costs later on. Great... We have a home in Talisay and land in Barili. (Cebu). How did you find the builder you can trust. Especially since you don't live there full time. Construction workers are known to cut corners especially on cement work. Having the wrong mix can be deadly. Enjoy the project ;-)

To all foreigners and locals who wants to build a house in the Philippines I would like to say never build a house without a thorough and proper contract with the builders. Try to avoid those workers who are paid on a "daily" basis,. Also its possible to do your own material procurement yourself. It's quite a work but the savings is worth it. You can also mix contractors like one contractor will build the structure and the other one will build the finishing. Like in my case I left all the windows and had a cheaper glass aluminum window maker that did it for us.

Nice house..I was looking for some property near Ormoc. Can you recommend a plot I can buy?? I'm in the states now but my family lives south of Albuera Leyte, I don't like that area because of internet and phone service is not that good...Like your video!! Bon in Sunderland lived most of my life away from home last 25+ years in SW London.
i built a plywood house with bamboo as decorative facing, 2 floors ground was big lounge dinner and kitchen with cr, upstairs was 2 bedrooms with full cr, i did everything and total cost was 225k, i sold the lumber after 4 yeas for 125k, now living in Bauang LaUnion.
Why are the concrete walls seems to have black patches?? May I ask how long since you started the building?

Regarding your house, I am sure it will turn out beautiful; but watch out as leaving the house unfinished for a long time might weaken the foundation because of rain water and damp.
