- I was lucky enough to catch up with the man, the legend...Scooter Tramp Scotty again, here in Sturgis, South Dakota this time. It's rumored this might be the last Sturgis rally Scotty attends--he's done working rallies and other summer adventures are calling to him. Sit back and take a listen, Scotty's thoughts on life are hard won and tested. I hope you enjoy.

Gotta say... This is a GEM of an interview with a man I've followed for a while. I'm a 4 wheel rubber tramp but have always admired the biker nomads. Scotty is the trail blazer I enjoy following. In this piece I believe You've allowed Us a glimpse into this fascinating man. This Lover of Freedom... The True Easy Rider. Thank You my Brother...and Thank You Scotty... WhereverYou are...i know You're Home. 🙏❤
Awesome comment. Pinning! Thanks man. STS is a legend.
Loneliness, as an over the road trucker it hit me a couple of months after I started. One evening it hit me hard and I'll never forget it. I almost quit but I went into the truck stop I was at, sat at the counter with a cup of coffee and just listened to the guys and their stories. I mentioned how I felt like a phantom almost because of practically no contact with other people for several weeks.
But like Scotty says, it's a curve you must go through and you'll find your routine for sanity. I was one of those "I don't need others around to be happy" kind of people. But isolation is not good for a human being.
Hi Scotty,
the first time , i had the luck, almost to fulfill my childhood-dreams, was in the year of 1978.
I had the possibility to buy an Iron Sportster 1000 from an american soldier (GI) here in Germany, my homeland. 4.500,- DM had been too much for me this time 😢. It last's twelve years more for me, to be able, to buy a brandnew Softail. I ride it till today, but not in your Intention. For me , you are the man, who is the incarnation of Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda for me.
I love your tales. Take care.
Scotty is the real deal. He should write a book on his philosophy on life.
He's currently half way through writing a book! Has a publisher too ;)
Ask 'Pan Head Billy' what he thinks of Scotty !
@@joewood7225 as far as I know, they're friends. Just hung out at sturgis this year again
Chuck Jines [ Backroad Biker ] said on his channel that Scotty wrote an article about Billy and got paid.....gave nothing to Billy !
@@joewood7225 back roads biker needs to work some things out...to put it nicely
Love this interview. He is a modern day Easy Rider. Carefree and see where the road takes you.
Good stuff, sweet! Thanks for the second interview.
I lived as a nomad trucking all over the country but supported a family at the same time ...the industries has bunches of homeless drivers that save their money and retire well.
Great Video Brenton words of wisdom. Nice to see a second interview with your friend Scotty. Looking forward to your next adventure.
😊😊😊
Thanks julie :)
I thought WOW that's the kind of life I've had. I thought I was either crazy or dumb for going out there and just knowing that the doors would open. I've made the same statement (I can't hardly wait to see what happens :). The good life peace and happiness. Brenton that's some good stuff keep up the good work :)
I always hope when I'm capturing (what I feel is) good stuff, that someone out there is also catching it. Thank you Al for taking the time. Scotty really is a unique gem in the world.
I've known Scotty for a couple years, altho I rarely get to catch up with him.
He lives his life exactly as he describes. Taking each day for what it's worth.
but in the end, that's all any of us can do anyways.
Heck...this is what let me to following your blogs & videos, Brenton .
Another great video, and can't wait to see more of your new boat.
I never get lost . , everyone tells me where to go
The ‘Road to nowhere’ segment really hit home.
A great interview with someone who’s made an ‘alternative’ way of living work for them and those nuggets of information he gives are gold.
Gives the reality of living on the road, the ‘loneliness’, and ‘if I see my money running low, I simply tighten the belt’... accepting the existence of fear, battling the demon, great segment too... a character for sure.
Thanks mate.
Stay well.
Great Show!😎👏
Fantastic video Brenton. I am happy that I finally got time to watch it. I have definitely been a slave to my home and its remodel the last several weeks. Unfortunately, I am not even half way through it so it will probably be over a month before my life is back to normal. One thing that Scotty said that resonated with me was, " when you do harm to others, you do harm to yourself." He is so right and the opposite is true. I don't know how many times I have been rewarded for helping others. You did a great job with this interview. Thank you for bringing these to us. When I say "safe travels", I just mean that I hope that they have a journey that is without mechanical incidents or health problems. It truly makes me happy to know that someone has taken a journey of a life time or even a fun afternoon in a park. Like Scotty said, it is about knowing that you are having a happy life. I am just an old school hippie.
Cool!! So cool…
Good conversation's makes me evaluate what's important and what the next move is going to be thanks Scotty.
He is more free than many. Great content!!!!!
This guy is such an inspiration. Really living. Thanks for the interviews i loved them all. subscribed!
If Scotty speaks for more than 10 minutes you will learn something profound that may alter your life !!
That was an awesome interview. Thanks so much for posting this. This has helped so much for my upcoming road trip and how to look at things when you're doing them for the first time.
That's good to hear. I've received a lot of courage and good advice from STC over the years. He really keeps it simple and manageable. In my mind, when my life starts to feel overly complicated and stressful, I think "I'm going to go live on the land scooter tramp Scotty style...and I do it. ;) a great ace in the hole for life. Thanks for watching man
@@backwatersandbackroads Glad you were able to interview him.
Another great video! I hope you keep doing interviews with different people. I really get thinking about my life from you and your adventures as well as people you interview. Your two interviews with Scotty, I think are better and more interesting than the few videos I've seen of his that he's made. Anyways, thanks for making these.
Tom, thank you so much for the encouragement, it motivates me more than you know.
Deep words of wisdom thanks for posting :)
Gotti been riding many years like yourself always love enjoy your videos I could never do what you do but I really appreciate it I think about you every morning while making hot cup of coffee or doing bathroom business you you're the best
Scotty WISDOM!
Thanks for telling about these interviews with STS! I enjoyed them but I heard the same stories from other videos as well. Still love watching him, I envy you and him since your able to travel with so much freedom.
👍♥️✌🇺🇸🙏🚤🛵
Great interview
Some real stuff there
Words of wisdom from someone that's done it, instead of from someone that's thought about doing it. Good video man. Now I've got to go find that book Scotty was talkin about.
Great interview with Scotty! Loved it !
Great motivation. Thank you
Sounds like the generosity of America and your ingenuity are what keep you going! Sadly there are many who would starve to death if they tried to live your life! Face it you are very resourceful!
Be Safe !,,, to me ,,means ""I wish I was there !"",,,lol.great video ☆☆☆☆☆
Awesome awesome awesome interview love the scooter tramp
I loved this video....I've following scottie for a few years now.
Thank you Scott...you are awesome ;)
Awesome bud ,i do the same in Australia, more off road travel. Great reminder of every thing thought. Been doing it for years but every time hit city ,need new bike ,house car ,your not normal .no 9to5 is not normal.its programmed
The way you and Scotty Simplify the “what if” demons all makes sense it holds me back from so much but watching that video I wanna live my life thank you
That is good news man. If I help one person expand their horizons, I'll feel it's worth it here. Thanks for watching man ;)
scottys always alot of fun! He sure has created a following!
Scotty has some serious words of wisdom. I sure hope the younger generations hear this.
Thank you for taking the time to listen and consider his unique perspective. I think he makes a lot of sense. It's very simple and straight forward
@@backwatersandbackroads , yep, Scotty's authenticity comes straight from the heart.
30 an listening loud an clear done the 80+ hour weeks for the past 10 years or so running printing presses company went under last year an it's certainly got me re thinking stuff.
Great video Scotty! Love the metaphor about freedom vs. stuff
Scotty is the best ;)
Scotty is more of a preacher than most are.
I am a pastor of a church, we have a fund to help people that on traveling through. A lot of folks travel and stop by and living by the seat of their pants.
Hardest thing for me would be not knowing what tomorrow brings.
We have a shower at our church.
Since watching Scotty I look for drifters.
Our church has showers.
I am the worse on the “what if!”
Growing up with a structure dad.
Joining military at 18 served 23 years
And now pastoring a church.
My life has always been so structured that fear of leaving the known is difficult.
We lie to ourselves saying we are in control..
During this man made virus. Why people are so quick to give up everything is for some kind of normalcy and safety. Neither one are real.
If ever in south GA let me know
Best advice ever, put your balls on the seat and GO!
Good stuff
I felt like I was sitting there w/ you guys....relaxing....Have fun (truly) in S. Dakota ! Be Careless! Take Chances!.......I went there a few years back......I like it here in Az tho..... :)
Arizona has a lot of beauty. I'd like to make it to quartzsite eventually
Not sure if you follow your comments on videos this late after the party, but this is the reminder I needed that the decisions I'm about to make are worth it. Bless you for sharing this.
Oh yeah, I read all comments. So happy to hear this. Scotty is an inspiration to many.
I did a faith trip back in the early nineties. I trusted that what I needed would show up and it did. I was in a small old bread van that I had fix up enough to live in. It got 5 mpg. Did almost 6000 miles that way. I learn to listen to spirit. Now many years later I move out here off grid where there wasn't anything on this land till with help I got to this point. My money went into the land and the equipment to set it up. I use to say my tractor was my bike and the tractor still helps a lot. But after 14 years out here in middle of nowhere I am ready to take time to enjoy life even more. I just pick up a 07 Sportster trike. Trike do to over ten miles of dirt roads and not as young as I was when I rode a hardtail on dirt in Oklahoma when I live back there. All I care is I am getting back in the wind at 65 years young come spring as I have my horse and goats along with my babies (dogs). As long as we have grass this spring I can take off and a friend with come out every few days to check up as I also have my neighbors horses to feed this time of year. Keep riding in that trust.
I take trips all the time and battle the what if demons ! Just got back off a 6000 mile trip out west from north to south with my 72 year old dad and 11 year old grandson and said ...screw you demons !!! What a trip !!!
That's awesome Bill ;) a generational adventure. I her everyone had a different experience from it. The "what ifs" aren't as loud for me as they use to be, but a few still fall out when I tilt my head ;) thanks for watching man ;)
Scotty you are a one of a kind in more ways than one, I could not comprehend riding a bike side saddle, Of course I was never able to learn how to water ski on one ski...It's no wonder folks want to hear you opinion, and stories.......
He'd love to hear from you directly;) he's got a great channel here on YT ;)
I wish I could meet you one day. I am now 50 years old I left home when I was 16. I have been on my own ever since. My name is Doc, The Drifter. You are a kindred spirit to me as well as an inspiration. I am in the Seattle area. I would just love to meet you if you're ever in this neck of the woods, and maybe we could hash out some stories. Introduce you to some good people, and let you go about your business. Stay safe and travel hard.
Good stuff,
Last night, while I lay thinking here,
Some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
And pranced and partied all night long.- Shel Silverstein
Way to go Scotty living the Dream!!!
Thanks!
Thank you!!
Great video man. Scotty is so very interesting to listen to. And so damn right. I learned something profound today. I gotta gear up to fight the demon. I gotta rattle his damn cage. He stopped me last year from goin to sturgis, but not this year. He (what iffed) me right outta my damn trip. Fuck that now. Thanks to both you and Scotty.
Thank John, yeah...find Scotty's camp next year, always interesting folks hanging around.
Followed Scotty"s travels for quite some time. Interesting to hear his view on the chosen life style. Will check out more of your vids. One minor suggestion, like your pooch but not the barking during interview.
Dude is a legend....
Well done
Real world philosophy
Scotty's right. Same feelings of doubt but once I was on the road for awhile I didn't want come back.
That s so much better then the first one
Oh I know it. I'll do better going forward. Lots to learn:) thanks for putting up with me
I have had that demon screw things up a few times.. Once I decided to head back home from Florida to northern PA. Well about 40 miles from home my little Toyota TV decided to blow a head gasket. Yea I got it towed home but there I was stuck in a place I actually hated to be. ✌
Lol Well there you go. He's wise and funny too.
That's for sure man ;)
Scotty love watching your videos not too many people can do what you do I would like to do what you do but that's your life you're like a gypsy blue in town to town seeing other people myself I was the Kearney the age of 7 my mom dad and brother and friends used to travel all over the South back in the 60s so I can I have that Gypsy light in my soul I was born noticing the street always trying to protect myself and living excite life town to town meeting new people so I know what you're going through I know your lifestyle but nowadays I seems like another life for me keep searching down down the road meeting new people just living your life like you like seeing the things that you want to do and just doing the things you want to do we have one purpose in life our life is short God bless
Wow he’s right!!!!
The future is an interesting place
To me when someone says “ Be Careful” or “ Be Safe” They are projecting. Their own fears on you.,
But to say “ Safe Travels” is a well wish or little prayer for you. I like to say “ Good riding, Enjoy! “ I hear, “ I wish you well. I wish I could go with you””
Im speechless....The Little Demon.
Whatcha mean brotha?
@@backwatersandbackroads The killer attack Beagle!!
@@stevejames9510 Right! She's terrible :)

Scotty may not have heard of "mgtow" but he is the perfect example of the lifestyle. Going his own way without being tied down.
I've told him that countless times :)
"Where the Sidewalk Ends" was written & illustrated by Shel Silverstein. It makes a fantastic gift to a child because it helps one conquer fear and deception.
Right around 31:00 has changed my life forever. Because he's a formidable foe!
Id like to try it l kinda get it. And Janis said it well in her way.... If you aint got nothing you aint got nothing to lose.I can see a correlation there that works for me. Even if l only lasted a month or possibly even more l see its a challenge but l also can see the rewards
North in summer, south in winter.
Solid interview. I could listen to his stories till no end. Did you get a chance to ride with Scottie while you were on your scooter?
Hi Bo, I did follow him around the black hills from deadwood to spearfish a couple times. There's a nice coffee shop in spearfish called "common grounds" which we always seemed to end up at ;) thanks a bunch for taking the time to listen and watch.
I really look up to scotty, wish I had the position in life to just take off but the wife wouldn't stay around long.
pitch your tent on a pallet if you don,t like waking up in a puddle!!
Which campground is that? Looks much nicer than staying at the chip
I would just like to know where do you get your food and do you ever cook on the roads?
Scotty mostly eats out of grocery store delis
The scooter 🛵 with the puppy at 0:06 isn't that your buddy from Michigan
That's Wavey Gravey ;)
What Year of HD do You currently have now?
I believe Scotty's HD is a 96
The musings of a wise sage!
❤️👍👍👍
Food for thought! If it were not for those of us who pay the taxes that maintain the roads and society in general you could not live the life you live! I encourage you to continue to live the life you enjoy but do not forget that the majority of us must live the lives we live for you to enjoy the life you choose. Your welcome!
like most travelers, Scotty worked for years and paid taxes etc. Lest you forget, he pays road use with every gallon of gas and taxes with every purchase he makes. no one escapes taxes, tolls, fees. BTW, youtube, patreon and paypal income are taxable as well.
Although I shelter from the rain under a broken tree; My chair was nearest to the fire in every company that talked of love or politicks, Ere time transfigured me. Though lads are making pikes again for some conspiracy, And crazy raschels rage there fill at human tyranny. My contemplations are of Time that has transfigured me. There's not a woman turns her face upon a broken tree, And yet the beauties that I loved Are in my memory; I spit into the face of Time that has transfigured me.

Do you get pulled over much by cops?
Shel Silverstein- Where the sidewalk ends.
The more stuff you own, the more of your freedom you just give away...I'll take freedom over stuff any day. You become a slave to your "stuff". It's never yours anyway...taxes n more taxes.
Scotty looks and sounds a lot like Ted Turner
I can't help but wonder... how man Dead shows has STS been to?
Ha! Well...I'd say not too many, but I understand how you might come to that question ;)

@@safeeffective385 oh, okay. Maybe he'll read the comments here. Or I can ask him for you. I talk to him often.
Philosophical mumbo jumbo. I like to ride. I like to ride long distance. I like to camp and "get lost" now and again. However, I'll say this, if the life of being a nomad on a motorcycle is so alluring, why aren't more doing it? It's like checking out of life for a non substantive peripheral view. Don't believe the hype.....
