The Original XBOX Launch Day Surprise of 2001 - My Retro Life - Hry
Hey guys, wanted to get this episode out for the Series X launch. Hope you enjoy it! Did you get the Original XBOX on launch day or around it? What are your memories from around this time? I'd love to know! Please let me know in the comments below, and have a great day! Thanks guys - Look for some exclusive Patreon content to come from this episode for sure.
I was born in 2001 when the Xbox was coming out
I'm pretty sure your dad would be proud of you doing these vids.and sharing parts of your guys story.your dad seemed like a really cool guy.and if you never mentioned his passing in any episode until and I heard that, itd hit me right in the gut. Loss of ppl is part of life and it sucks. But in the end we all go and only have our memory to leave behind. To not only have stories but videos, actual proof, of just how much you guys got enjoy basically everybgreat console is truly a special thing.
Cheers to you n your dad 🍺
While I did wait with friends at Walmart for the midnight release of the Xbox, I didn’t get my own until a couple of month later when I won one from Taco Bell! 3 days after the launch saw the release of the Gamecube and that’s where my gaming dollars went. It was the first system I purchased with my own money as an 18 year old. Despite a friend calling it the “shamecube”, I loved that little lunchbox! When did you end up getting a Gamecube Tyler?
I didn't get it, still don't have any Xboxes. Playstation all the way for me!
@@DerekLed can't go wromg.Xbox has lost their power of exclushves. So if you buy one its for the power, or game pass as a secondary console . exclusives are important for sales. Look at nintemdo and Sony . they're destroying.Xbox is just doing good. Maybe it'll change tho
He’s the dad that every gamers wanted
He was really an amazing Dad and he will forever be with me. Thanks for watching 🙏
Omg yeah! I used to get bitched at for playing to much, and nevermind the dreaded "Ethernet disconnect" to all my fun every night. This guy was a saint!
Yes.
It must have been a terrible pain losing your best friend
U got that right and right the 360 was the best concle I have gta 4 on it and I still play with my 360
Your dad was a master vlogger
He even synced his camera to match with the TV's frame rate.
Man back than was best now just plan lame
@@PickentCode how can you tell that? i’m just interested lol
@@unknownwolf4046 all paid actors now; not genuine
@@iamdrewski39 There would be flickering/screen tearing if he didn't make sure it was synced properly. It was a common sight with amateur video recording back then and can still happen when recording screens today.
Just watching this now. Dude, your dad is the real MVP. The setup he had waiting for you just reminds us parents that our true joy comes from making our children happy.
Truth!
I think what’s really brilliant is your Dad was aware enough on how important it was to create a home video of this experience all the way back in 2001. He was ahead of his time, salute to him 🫡
This is a father that truly loves his son. Notice how everything he does is for him. He waits and lets his son turn on and play the system for the very first time.
Thanks for pointing that out. ❤️ He was my hero no doubt
I wish my dad was like that
@@TomPlotagon be that dad for your kid

When he said “it would be the last console he got before he passed away” I cried. Shit man he would be so proud of u. He’s lookin down right now smiling at all the memories.
❤️
I felt the pain when you said that too. ❤️
I felt that pain as well. My son and I have a very similar relationship as u when it comes to interests. And he felt it too
Me too man, I really felt that.
lost mine at 13 man, it sucked, bad.
Just discovered all the nostalgiarific videos man. Your dad was a man ahead of his time
Thanks Joshua
dads during this era were very much into tech..
Its so cool. Makes me happy I immigrated to the US in the early 2000s. So much of those times were great for me as a school nerd gaming hermit.
I had a huge smile on my face this whole video. Your dad was loving every second of you being happy ❤
Rest in paradise to him.
He’s still alive… in our hearts 🥹
The whole video is so wholesome!

What’s so amazing about this, was your dad recording this. It’s wasn’t to put on social media. It wasn’t because he wanted to show off to any one. It showed a loving dad who had a common interest with his son. Those moments meant so much to him that he wanted to hold a glimpse of that moment forever. Fucking beautiful, man.
This comment kind of took me by surprised and not going to lie got me a little emotional. Thanks man
It's genuine. Nothing like the paid actors now.
@@MyRetroLife I wish I had moments like these recorded. It's nice to see. Must of been nice to enjoy it with someone. When I was given something it felt more like, here you go; like giving a bum money lol.
Made me tear up
@@hapwn How true! Today it's only about money, fame or "look how cool/beautiful/smart" I am.
I didn't intend to watch the whole video, but it's purity kept me here. Also that his son reminded me of the stereotype nerds from back then xD When I had electronic classes and every free minute we all talked about games, WoW, PCs, etc.
All these years later and school bus brakes still sound the same.
It sent me back to the same time frame lol
Yeah, innovation in air brakes have been very slow. Another thing that is slow, good PS5 and Xbox launch titles this generation.
It's probably still the same bus.
And they still look the same
Yep school buses just haven’t seem to go through any change at all
I think the coolest thing about your videos is your dad decided to record all these moments which is pretty special. Its nice to relive them and compare how life was back than to now.
It's crazy how nostalgic old TV's and videotapes can make you feel..
true and when you see on video yourself small kid playing this old consoles in the front of you is so nostalgic feeling too so true it rly looks amazing for me is the same when i see my old pics with me and my sega or nes console when i was kid and i say to my self omg before long time i have it this console it was amazing :D for that yeah feels so good to se your old video or your old pics with console like how to was in my life btw for that i know t his feeling is amazing
That’s why I had to buy the Sega Genesis collection. It has an entire room of late 80s and early 90s memorabilia on top of 50 Genesis games that you put in a virtual Genesis system.
Your father had a vision , he was a CZcamsr before CZcams .
That's for sure.
RIP.
Man that's deep
True. Seems like my vision is not being a youtuber because I don't feel like taking the camera out even on the most special of moments when it's in my fricking pocket
You realize tons of people made home videos in the 90's and early 2000's
@@HonkeyKong54 Sure a lot of ppl made videos but let's be real. Ppl would just point the camera and capture whatever. Shaky, terrible angles, not enough time on one subject and also it was random-ass things. This guys dad made sure he really captured the moment well, saving it for a distant future. Hell, these videos are so good its convinced me to start recording family get-togethers again 👌
@@zerocal76 people have been creating home movie's forever. Some of those people became directors and in the film industry. So no.

Thanks man! Yeah he was truly special and loved by everyone who knew him. Appreciate you watching
What was the long story man? Did he ever tell you?
Hearing about your dad's passing hit me right in the heart. My dad passed away in April 2021. He also introduced me to the world of gaming, my first consoles being the Nintendo 64 and Playstation. My first gaming memories with my dad was playing contra and super contra on a plug-n-play machine and we beat the game together, which would be the only gaming moment we had together until i got older and ended up only playing video games by myself after getting a Gamecube and a Wii.
I’m sorry for your loss man. Hope you and your family are doing alright
Only once i have played with my dad it was that three game combo nes where was mario, tetris and world cup, played world cup well he is still alive and like more like question games like who wants to be millionare and buzz.

I'm not a dad (yet) but seeing your videos over the years... Seeing how much joy your dad had in seeing you joyful... Hits right in the feels.
Love how your dad setup the xbox like he did on that chair.. that alone almost brought a tear to my eye.
He was great about making it look good! Thanks man
Those are things that go with you thru all your life
Takes me back to when I got my first brand new console, the Wii. My parents had it set up all nice on the couch waiting for me to come down the stairs and open it. Good times.
My mans dad was ahead of his time. Recording reactions, launches and just being about all things nerdy is the standard in today’s day and age. This was rare back in those days. I’m glad he taped it and I thank you for sharing this with us.
My pleasure to share my old stories and memories. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I’m sorry to hear about your father. What a wise man he was to record all the memories he could.

You rarely see any of these old school gaming footage on the Internet especially launch day of Xbox.
I'm happy to put it up!
@@MyRetroLife how much old footage do you have archived? Blast from the past
I’m sorry you lost your father; he seemed like an incredible man . My father was like yours - he loved video games, and he bought just about every game console on their respective launch days. Those were exciting times. When I finally reached my teenage years, I began working and saving for my own games and console systems.
After my father retired, his finances weren’t the best, but it didn’t matter. In a sweet twist of irony, I began buying him new console systems when they launched. I remember how he cried when I bought him a Gamecube. (My father isn’t the type to usually cry.) When I asked him why he was crying, he said, ‘I raised my boy right. I remember when I used to buy these systems for you, when you were younger.’ He paused and then said, ‘I remember feeling so excited when I bought you a new system. The excitement drove me crazy, because I couldn’t wait to see your reaction when you got home from school.’
This is a perfect comment!! I'm doing this with my children now and it is so exciting and rewarding to see the happiness of your children opening the new games and consoles!

Keep it going bud and hope you and your dad can one day sit down and enjoy a game together at least once.

When you mentioned that the 360 would be the last console from your dad, that hit me sooo hard. He seemed like an amazing dad and you can tell how much he loved you all.
one must and should always see it positively. His father witnessed the best Microsoft console with his son. He didn't have to live through the Xbox One debacle.
So his death would probably be even more painful to go on such a sad note.
