Backsliding!

We have had extremely hot, humid weather and the lambs and kids appear to be losing weight, backsliding on condition. We sent in stool samples for evaluation and found a very high barber pole worm load and coccidiosis, even though the FAMACHA scores were acceptable. This summer has been very hot and wet, perfect conditions for parasitic infestations. With proper treatment the lambs are responding well and gaining weight. We are also preparing for fall breeding season for the ewes and does. All appears to be going well. This month has been very busy and continues as we start our third cutting of hay. We are also off to pick up 10 more Ile de France ewes from western Minnesota. We will have an upcoming announcement about our direct marketing plan for our lambs and kids.
