Maruti Suzuki Jimny vs Grand Vitara AWD: 4x4 Matters?
Vložit
- čas přidán 30. 07. 2024
- The Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Grand Vitara are two very different approaches to define the term SUV. The Jimny is a ladder-frame, rear-wheel drive off-roader that gets 4x4 while the Grand Vitara all-wheel drive is a monocoque, front-wheel drive family SUV with an all-weather, all-road, AWD system. In this video, we won’t compare the two in the traditional sense as the Jimny is supposed to be better off-road by DNA. However, you must be as curious as we are to see how close the Grand Vitara can get to the Jimny on its home turf!

Respect for the Grand VItara AWD, with road tires, with just 102bhp power and 137 Nm torque, it can do so much.
Absolutely! 💯
I guess both the cars have exactly the very same engine.
@@monis_learns2264 is not the same engine.
Underpowered maruti.. typical maruti crappy attitude
Thank you gentleman - greetings from Scotland + I too have a s cross / grand Vitara , mine has the 48 volt battery boost
Fun cars 😎 enjoy
In loving memory of Skoda Yeti and Duster AWDs
😢
more torq, all terrain tyres and little more ground clearance would make a grand vitara serious competition for many capable offroaders in the market.
You should have tried it in the sport mode. When u put it in lock mode it automatically engages snow mode which restricts the power by nature, on the other hand if u engage sport mode it will not restrict power and will send the power where needed. I own a hyryder awd and I have noticed this personally. It is pretty capable, specially if you change the tyres.
Snow is the only way you can lock it in AWD. Hence, we used it in all the obstacles with TC off. We did try Sports mode as well BTS, did not help.
But I completely agree, this is super capable, just needs the right set of tyres. Said that in the verdict as well.
What is BTS here??
If the sport mode is tried, it should have been included in the video so that we can experience the result.
@@heerasagarbora3782 for the sake of keeping the results consistent, it was not a part of the video. We try multiple things when we have the cars for testing and evaluation.
@@heerasagarbora3782 just to supplement the answer provided by Nabeel Khan, "BTS" stands for "Behind The Scenes".
i was here for the cars, but now i'm staying on this channel for the witty banters. Great review of both cars!
Really noice video! Not a car guy but been a while since I sat through a 25 mins car video non-stop. Fun watch, love both the hosts
Shukriya Sir!
Bro just provoked Alto Off roaders ... They will be like come-on Alto can do it 😃

GV with all terrain tyres and 1.4 turbo petrol hybrid will be a killer !
Does maruti have 1.4 turbo engine ?
If not why not a turbo in this 1.5 engine ?
@@samarthakur4u International gv has a 1.4 turbo
Hope to see someone add Bolero Neo to compare its capability being a rear wheel drive with MLD.
I second that, plz do it team
Me too😊
How can they call this a Grand Vitara. It's an on road all wheel drive. Bring back the original Grand Vitara with a proper low range transfer case and usable traction control... There is virtually no competition for it in the 4x4 market even today.
The Grand Vitara needs a bigger (read better) engine to fully utilise the awd system as well as the very fine platform.
Amen.
Would a turbo engine help in a low rev situation like this?
You need to drop the tire pressure to 18PSI , then it will be easy to ride off-road. You should’ve driven the GV in Sports and Auto mode. Snow mode is not for hill climbs.
Hlw tushar... I'm confused in gv colour....want to buy silver dual tone like yours but it's not available to visit in my city..
What you think is best colour
Also tell is roof wraping legal & good for sigma??
Personally, the Silver Dual Tone or white dual tone are my favourites. The roof wrap may not be strictly legal because it will be different from what’s on the RC.
If you get Splendid Silver, your card will only say that. If you buy the dual tone, it’ll say Splendid Silver Black
- Tushar
I own GV AWD and i am always searching its capabilities when it comes to off road. I have tried my self many off road obstacle and i have noticed that its a game of momentum , plus if the tyres are changed it will perform completely different. Further Rightly said Maruti to bring turbo engine in India and when i was buying GV i had seen the video of Gv in international market with powerful engine. Nevertheless the GV will be able to take us from terrain of Leh Ladakh to light snowing roads in north.
Hope you will give more insight of the GV as winter is coming.
Absolutory! AT tyres will help the GV AWD a lot.
It's good for Ladakh
@@pratyushkishore9030really?
Just wished that the grand vitara came with the AWD in the strong hybrid
Yessir!
Haa yaar.
what both jumny and grand vitara AWD need 2L turbo charged engine and six speed manual gearbox to make really hot for thar, not able to under stand why skoda is shying away from AWD version of kushaq 1.5 MT
Jimny is still fine with its engine tune IMO, however the GV definitely needs a punchier engine. As for the VW and Skoda, no point really when you look at it from a market point of view. 4Motion on the Taigun would be epic.
@@nabeelkhan4878 Skoda yeti was best real 4x4 SUV to which thar and jimny can not hold much ground against , thar has long waiting list with 50-60k unit sales per year so market is there for comfortable, powerful compact AWD/4x4 SUV
I have the 2015 2.4 GV. It has low range and a ladder chassis. It goes anywhere. This is a real soft roader.
Can you do an offroad comparison video of original Grand vitara all time 4 by 4, with 2/2.4 ltr engine, with new Jimny.
Gadi dhundna thoda mushkil hai. And the OG GV will go circles around the new GV 😂.
Super Work ... please make a video on MG Astor Manual 1.5 NA engine ( Style Variant).. Need Video for BS 6 Phase 2... Hope to see video soon🙏🙏
Maruti should really work on Diesel engines like how Tata and Mahindra are still launching diesel variants.
Indeed. I was hoping for that 1.5 DDiS diesel to return in BS6 and BS6.2 form, but Maruti Suzuki is far too chicken to do just that. Now I'm wondering how amazing the Grand Vitara would've been with that diesel engine.
Diesel is carcinogenic and DPF's on any brand is trouble
It was extremely enjoyable. Both the vehicles will be a dream to own. In the end I will go for the AWD Vitara. Does it also come with Aotumatic Transmission?
Unfortunately, the Grand Vitara AWD is only offered with a manual transmission
Dusty trails, thrilling conquests-offroading's heartbeat echoes in this exhilarating adventure.
why did they drive GV too carefully than Jimny? did maruti suzuki ask them to do so?

Wow, thank you!🙏
have to test it with off road tyres, it would be fun !
Remember it is not the machine, it is the man.
I will take that as a compliment 😅.
🔥
What was the fuel economy of jimny after the test.
🤦🏽♂️
Grand Vitara AWD, why does the Grand Vitara in Indonesia use FWD??
Wow BGM is superb 😅👍
The GV AWD is in no mans land. It needs the AT tyres and the powertrain upgrade to make it worth considering.
Love the gimnys exquast sound …..both car should be tuned by code 6….put springs that increase ground clearance….and off road tyres
Amazing, what can do GV on road tires and without Low Range gears. Good job, Suzuki !
Can anyone explain why it cuts off power
That's because the traction control kicks in automatically when it detects the tyres moving all over the place . Its like a safety tech that turns of power going to the wheels in order to not lose balance. Less tyre rotation= Less speed = More control
@@Alex-ud4tl didn't they turn off the traction control though, or can it not be turned off
The traction control was off, the rev cut off seemed to be the same reason as in many modern cars - to prevent over revving.
Excelente video
Tushar Maam Reminds me of the song Lambooji....Tinguji from the AMitabh -Rishi starrer ....Coolie.....No prices for guessing whos Amitabh ...here😆
It is gonna cut power in snow mode. I am sure you could have done that in GV in 2WD mode only.
still don't understand why GV cuts power, then Y give it awd? for gimmick?
There should b 2 Mode
1. 4×2
2. 4×4 (High)
No need of Locking Differential
Brake LSD is enough
You guys look exactly like the ones who will be buying and testing it 🤣
do a comparison between the Grand Vitarra and the Duster AWD!
🤤
#BringBackTheDusterAWD
In case of Grand Vitara was that on Sport+lock or Snow+lock ? It should be in Sport+lock or system will cut power soon aggressively 😊. Anyways 4*4 is 4*4 🔥even if both engines have similar power . AWD is better than FWD not better than 4*4
It only locks in Snow. That is the issue.
@@nabeelkhan4878 Really . Didn't know that . In that case did u try with esp off ?
Gymney vs force gurkha will be gem to see 🔥
Thanks bro for your showing to the world the power of grand vitara
Next time take a alto along please 😂
You guys completely ignored tyres. 😐😐
Grand Vitara's issue is not power or torque, it's the tyres that are absolutely road biased (and rightfully so).
Give the grand vitara a little more grippy set of tyres, it'll do at least 60% better in all of these situations.
We did not ignore it, but both cars are tested in the factory spec. Mentioned the tyres bit in the verdict. And yes, AT tyres will make a huge difference.
We’ve acknowledged the difference tyres would make but the comparison is to see how they perform as is from the factory
@@nabeelkhan4878 first of all, thanks for clarifying that it was the company spec version that you have compared. That solves my complaint. But could have mentioned it in the review.
I saw that you did mention it in the final verdict, but the mentions to power and torque were not on point. Both Vitara and Jimny have same but different series of engines with almost the same outputs of torque and power.
Both also being similarly heavy as well, there's nothing much other than the AT tyres at work here.
I say that for the given conditions. Jimny would still perform better owing to the ladder frame and other aspects like the ground clearance and approach and departure angles.
However for the given conditions, Vitara would have done much better with just better tyres.
@@zigwheels thanks for the clarity. I think it needed a mention in the review when it began.
But also tyres could have been a matter of focus although you mentioned it in the end.
The power and weight of both are almost the same on both. Ladder frame and Clearance might have served Jimny better but Grand Vitara would have done much better if with AT tyres.
@@Antonyeratt While the engines show similar outputs on paper, the nature of the power delivery is very different. The Jimny offers a lot more usable torque lower down in the rev band and hence it has a higher ability to pull under load conditions. GV, sadly does not. On the road too, with a full load, it struggles to go up a mountain road. This lack of low down torque makes it stall when you demand a lot of pulling power. It's not the TC, it's the lack of pulling power from the engine.
1:58 yes, i was thinking the same thing lmao how y'all know the audience.
Hahaha
🤣🤣 we’ve done enough comparisons to know what comments will come in. The problem with these off-road videos is, the camera can never really capture how challenging the obstacles are
My favorite 4 wheeldrive jeep is jimny powerful engine
Seasoned off roaders would walk these even with the Vitara
The prowess of jimny, yeah !!!
get the Vitara A/T tyres and then we can actually test the offroad capabilities
But the JiMNY too doesn't get the AT tyres.. so comparison seems fine
@@the_mile.muncherJimmy had A/T tyres, they explained in the end
It also is 4x4 and lighter, so at least GV should get AT tyres if not MT @@the_mile.muncher

5 door jimny is exclusively made for indian buyers only
@@TessTickle759 aah, ok. Recently I heard it will be launched in Australia, soon. I guess in a couple of years in my country :D
Yep, the 5-door was launched in India first but it will be sold across the world 😃
Did you even deflate these road tyres?
Nop. Factory spec. It was about testing them in factoru spec to see how capable they are. The obstacles also did not warent deflation.
I understand sticking to stock figures. But in all honesty if someone is attempting to do such kind of off roading they will have some basic knowledge and deflating sure helps in clay and mud. It doesn't cost anything to drop 5psi at the very least@@nabeelkhan4878
@@NalinKhurb Yes. but the idea behiend this test was to see how the SUVs would perform in stock conditions. Hence, the course too was not an extreme one.
Tyres seems wrong on Grand Vitara
Only need is a good engine where maruti is not doing anything. With a good powerful engine both vehicles are very good and reliable.
The snow mode is cutting the power
Plz do with xuv7oo
Replace driver and gv will cross all that easily ,not that easy as jimny. Bt am sure it can.
The good old stock gypsy would have happily walked up and down all of these obstacles.

Haha..
Also, Nabeel* :p
Bitarra body design is not meant for offroading actually
Jimny 🔥 🔥
The GV should have stayed as a two wheel drive car and nothing more. You can see how sad it is with the low amount of bhp and torque. Had it had a more powerful engine, then awd would have made sense. In this case, no. Stick to keeping the GV on the roads.
4wd and awd are two different genres!! But still at the end of the day its the driver who carries that extra punch which helps the vehicle to shine apart. Thar gurkha jimny are all good capable vehicles in their class, still carry upper crest than any other modern day awd suv. 💜💜 Happy diwali keep on crawling 💜💜

@@rajlovinglife 100% Agree, Alto has amazing Power-to-Weight ratio and is super successful in the Hills. Also, Nexon is a 2Wheel Drive, however, the large and wide tyre size, high ground clearance and high torque helps it to pull you out in places, where most Sedans and Hatchbacks fail. Specially over gravel, mud, slush, water, height difference at road edges and deep potholes created in rain.
