  • Recognised as one of Dickens' most accomplished titles, Bleak House has impressed critics and audiences alike since it was first published in 1852. The novel boasts one of the most intelligent and engaging plots in all of English literature and is sure to engage the listener's imagination as it transports us back in time to the seedy, grimy and hazardous streets of Victorian London.

I can't think of anyone better to read Bleak House! I have never tried an audiobook, but I may have to try this for my first!

      Yes.
But have a listen to Mil Nicolson reading Bleak house.
      She’s a one-woman repertory theatre, she’s a work of art.

Miriam is just brilliant bringing Dickens to life. I've seen her performing Dickens' Women onstage and was completely blown away. A talented dedicated actress. Just adore her! From down under! 👇💜🙃

A relentless whodunnit with no punches pulled. A devastating character expose of the hypocrisy, exploitation and repression that passed for acceptable Victorians' behaviour to each other. Magnifice t.

I don't generally like 'audiobooks', but reading text is starting to become difficult for me, and if I had to choose someone to do the recording for a Dickens book, it would be Miriam Margolyes. I'll definitely check this one out.

I love Dickens. But hate dramatised Dickens. It's just dialogue obviously and omits all the subtle witted narration in effect, which is replaced by the tangible world.

My recording of BLEAK HOUSE is not dramatised in any way. It is simply read, as Dickens wrote. it was a privilege to record such a masterpiece.

@miriammargolyes3674 ..I'm am not only late to audio books, but also Bleak House. I am of the opinion that the right books find you at the right time..
I love walking around with a hard copy of a book wherever I am however, listening to your gentle, persuasive ,beautiful and humbly written intro, I decided to bite the bullet...and now half a day as gone with me listening equal parts flawed, and enveloped by your love of Dickens....INCREDIBLE..
