    In this video I'm going to show you some Must Do baseball pitching drills for youth pitchers and beginning pitchers. It's true there is no shortage of pitching drills these days. The problem is: most are overcomplicated and hard to understand and replicate. This is why I decided to create this video that shows you the best pitching drills when getting started. First, I'll show you some youth pitching drills for young baseball pitchers and why they make sense when starting out.
    Next, you'll lean some youth pitching mechanics in the process that will help you learn, coach or teach these back to your athletes. Remember, try to keep things as simple as possible when working with young developing pitchers. Make it fun and easy. Keep working, keep growing....you got this.

    I have been trying my best to help my 9 year old son who just started pitching. He is in a fall league right now that is player pitch (his past leagues have been coach pitch). Needless to say, he has had a lot of trouble trying to hit some of these pitches at speeds he's never faced before (playing with guys up to 13 years old) so him pitching is keeping him excited about this league. His coach tells me that he has a strong arm for his age and lots of potential so I am trying to work with him at home as much as possible. We have a rebound net set at 46 feet from a spot in the yard and he has been throwing from it. He has made some great pitches but seems to have the most trouble with command. I am going to try these breakdowns you showed in this video. I really think they will be a big help to him!

    Try this with twins (9 yr daughter and 9 yr son). This has really helped my both of them. My son went from throwing 10 foot lobs to throwing strikes in a 2 or 3 weeks. Daughter has improved greatly as well where she can comfortably reach the plate in practice. Towards the end of our little league season, we started to do this with our U10 little leaguers. I am pretty sure that our pitchers would have improved. Bite size and easy to teach. Thanks for this great video.

      I'm by no means a pro ballplayer, but I pitched from age 8 to age 23 in college. I now coach both my son and daughter in baseball and softball. At age 12 and under is to focus on proper pitching form and technique. Increased Velocity will soon follow with proper mechanics achieved. Also keep the pitching reps low or you'll burn their little arms out quickly!

This past year he jumped to the 60/90 and I noticed his mechanics broke down as he was getting used to the extra 10 feet. His arm strength is where it needs to be now, but he is inconsistent inning to inning. We are going to use these drills to get him back on track.

      @ARMPitchingDevelopment  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi Steve. Thanks for the support 🙏. For a 9u guy you can certainly do forms in the garage. It's more about getting the body to move right vs strength and distance. Start short and work your way back on the build up and low balance drill. The finish drill is a shorter distance drill at about 12-15 feet.

    Coach Jason, I had a pitching student that I had worked with for several months in the past come to our facility to take a lesson last night. We hadn't seen him in probably 8 months or so, but he has now started taking his hand out of his glove at hand break with absolutely no arm path whatsoever (no circle down and around) to his fully cocked position. I told him that the short arm path is kind of the "in" thing, and that he should at least have "some" sort of circling around motion, even if it is shorter than he used to use. What is your advice to a pitcher who has morphed into zero arm path to the early cocking phase?

    • @ARMPitchingDevelopment
      @ARMPitchingDevelopment  Před rokem +1

      Well my thought is that you have a philosophy of what you feel is an adequate arm action and he has asked you for help. Without taking the athletes ability in movement feel your job is to coach him safe and as correct to the best of your ability. As a coach I only bring water to my athletes. I can't make them drink, they have to want to drink. Thanks for reaching out buddy.

      @ARMPitchingDevelopment  Před 2 lety +1

      I think 3 days a week 6 - 7 reps on each is plenty to start with. You can scale up or down as needed. Thanks for the support :)

      8-10 or so. Be sure to listen to your arm. If feeling good keep working. If getting tired shut it down. Good luck to you 🙏

    What angle should foot be in when landing from load, 45,90*?

    • @ARMPitchingDevelopment
      @ARMPitchingDevelopment  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah good question. 45 would be better than 90 on this drill. The main point is when you commit the throw / pitch you want to reach full hip shoulder separation so a more squared approach to the target keeping the shoulder back the better. It will feel awkward. But trained well over time will provide some great results when pitching. Thanks for the great question and support buddy. :)

    Coach Jason, I have a pitching student who is 9 years old who throws with an inverted W. The problem is that his timing is so bad that nearly everything he throws is high arm-side. Should I change this pitcher to circle-up?? It seems like it would be a better arm action.

    • @ARMPitchingDevelopment
      @ARMPitchingDevelopment  Před 2 lety

      Yeah certainly give that a shot or you can start by training when the front foot lands then his arm spirals up and maybe dry run that a few times to see if it helps with the timing. Good luck to you buddy

    • @ARMPitchingDevelopment
      @ARMPitchingDevelopment  Před 2 lety

      Ideally yes but if you're dealing with a really young kid then you just try to show them form and start them to get used to things then if he gets stronger try to get him back as far as he can.

    In the scarecrow drill you have the ball pointing back and down with the wrist curved. Why? I thought the ball should be pointed in the same direction of your chest as there is no reason to rotate your wrist until release.

    • @db336
      @db336 Před 2 lety +8

      What comes naturally might be really bad mechanics and can tear up your shoulder and elbow. If your parents can afford a good pitching coach please have them look in to that if you want to continue pitching. Most rec coaches and a surpising amount of travel coaches don't know how to properly coach pitching. The better your mechanics are now the easier it will be when you're older and won't need shoulder surgery when you're 40.

    • @ARMPitchingDevelopment

      Yes. I would start them from flat ground and then build the drills into their actual mound routine. If positively re-enforced you will see a significant improvement over 4-6 weeks.
